Wanna ask if I were to buy kinsgston value ram DDR3 1333MHz 4GB module x2 (which would give me 8GB), is it possible to OC the i5 2500K to say 4.5GHz? Or should I get DDR3 1600MHz ram instead? I ask cause the price difference between 1333 and 1600 is about double.

No way to overclock ram alone? I mean besides overclocking the CPU, can I also overclock the ram as well? Say supply more voltage to the ram etc....

Got my system 2 days back. A mix and match of my old gears and new gears.

i5 2500K
P8P67 deluxe
kingston ddr3 1333 2x4GB (8GB)
Leadtek GTX 460 1GB DDR5 OC edition
Samsung F3 1TB
TP Link wifi N card
Silverstone FT-02
CM Hyper 212 Plus
Logitech MX518
Razer Blackwidow
Intel 80GB SSD (my own)
WD Blue 640 GB (my own)
PC power & Cooling single rail 610W PSU (my own)
Creative Audigy Platinum EX (my own)

Cost me a total of RM3810 for the total new stuff thanks to kenneth from lowyat. It feels nice to have a PC that has all wireless connection, bluetooth and wifi.

Wanna consult asus motherboard owners, any problem with bluetooth? I manage to pair the mobo bluetooth with my bluetooth headset after installing the driver from asus CD but the sound is like jerky, broken for 2 sec, then no sound, then sound come again. Anyone experiencing similar problem?

Will try to use the OC guideline listed earlier to OC tomorrow. Right now busy installing software and update windows. 8GB of ram sure is nice, lucky i go for more ram rather than faster rams. 8GB of rams cost me less than RM260!!!

I am trying to overclock based on online guide. But the first thing to do is to update bios, the new UEFI bios of asus motherboard. Tried running the auto update of asus software, it could not find new bios to update. I am running version 0402 which is dated october 2010. The guide mention to use minimum 0907 and above. Any idea how can I get the updated bios?

Also, the guide mention to set mutiplier to 45x. I cannot find the option to change multiplier to 45x. Is it not named "multiplier" but used another name in the UEFI? Rest voltage and all can easily identified and changed.

But CPU-Z is not really working for me. Sometimes showing me got 3.3GHz, sometimes just 1.6 GHz. Don't know what is wrong.

I think ram prices of those 1600 should drop soon. Online price for G.Skill ripjaw 1600 series is just USD50 for 2x2GB kits. Anyway, my bluetooth is working fine now. I think must be because of some codec issue it was streaming just bits and pieces yesterday. I open different media files, mkv, avi, xvid, and multiple players running like vlc, realplayer and wmv, so all jumbled up.

I see, so the processor does slow down when not on load. No wonder I see just 1.6GHz.

I tried go to asus ftp site. Cannot find the latest bios for P8P67. Anyone who has the latest bios firmware please upload a link here. Thanks.

Update BIOS using the EZ Flash Utility under BIOS with USB pendrive...
Download the BIOS from Asus website...
Multiplier = CPU ratio
*
Thanks for the guide. Yeah, download from asus website is better. The ASUS auto update tool is just not useful. Cannot find the file when connecting to its FTP server. Gonna uninstall it later today when I get back home.

I do notice CPU ratio in the bios. However, when I try to tweak it under Advanced\CPU configuration - I can only max out the CPU ratio up to 33. How to push it to 45?

This is the online guide I got:
Overclock a Core i5-2500K to 4.5GHz
1. Enter the BIOS by pressing Delete as the PC starts
2. Enter the Advanced menu by clicking the button in the top-right corner
3. Set the CPU multiplier to 45x
4. Enable Load-Line Calibration
5. Set the CPU voltage to 1.3-1.35V
6. Set the CPU PLL to 1.9V
7. Set the VCCSA to 1.1V
8. Set the VCCIO to 1.106V
9. Hit F10 to save and restart

Basically I can achieve item 4-8. Only item 3. Set the CPU to multiplier to 45x cannot be done. Is it because I was still on the old bios yesterday? Hopefully today when i go back and update bios, i can manually set it to 45x.

Downloaded bios 1053, will update tonight. I remember from the Asus update software there is an option to update bios via:
1. online
2. download online
3. from file
4. forget what

I will choose option 3 and point it to the file I downloaded. Then bios update can be done in windows mode I think. Not sure, will try it for the first time tonight.

Last night while tweaking the bios, I think i did notice under the DRAM menu got option to run the ram 1333, 1600 and higher. Anyone tried to choose option 1600 when in fact the ram you using is just 1333? Should I try that?

Successfully updated my motherboard bios. Did all those tweaks at bios and here is my results. Seems like CPU can reach 4.5GHz. But when idle it drops back to 1.6GHz. I don't have any benchmark tools, only have the window experience index. Previously my processor score was 7.5, now after OC is 7.7.

I did the change the ram speed in bios to 1600 too. But in CPU-Z i don't see it reporting i'm having 1600 MHz ram. However, the windows experience index did increase from 7.7 to 7.8 for the ram. So my memory is it running at DDR3 1600MHz now or still DDR3 1333?

Lastly was graphics. I stock was 725/1450/1800 (core/shader/memory). I increased them to 825/1650/2100. Tried SF4 game, no changes. I can see at top left corner showing fps 60 all the time, i think that is the max FPS for SF4. Run crysis warhead, dunno how to check for score.... but it can run well. Windows experience index for graphics and gaming graphics increased from 7.5 to 7.6.

When I try to update to latest nvidia drivers, it seem to have some fail message. I attach the picture below. Anyone can explain to me why this happens?

That is it. I think I will leave it at this overclock settings. What do you guys say?

turn off VSync bro.

What is VSync anyway? Why should I turn it off?
In options, I see anything that i can enable i just click, haha.
For Crysis, i set resolution to 1600x1000 then everything to enthusiast something bout FSAAx16Q stuff as well. Game still can run smoothly. I think i enable Vsync in crysis too. Should I disable VSync in crysis too?

your ram is indeed 1600. dram frequency 800.1 x 2 is 1600.2MHz.

seemed like your intel speedstep turbo is on, that's why idle drops to 1.6GHz. that's actually a great thing. u won't wan your pc to run at 4.5GHz all the time right? smile.gif
*
I see. So I did manage to overclock my ram to 1600. And it was easy. At bios I just choose the option 1600. I think bios i can choose all the way to 2133. But I'm happy with 1600. No need to spend extra money for 1600 ram kits, haha. Thanks for pointing that out. No wonder my windows experience index shows the memory improve from 7.7 to 7.8, but I cannot verify if I did oc the ram from DDR3 1333 to DDR3 1600.

need higher voltage, normally 1.65V make system becomes unstable.
*
I think for ram 1333 to 1600 don't need higher voltage. My ram still running at 1.5V.

When i go to my computer icon, right click and select properties, i see my computer system properties. Processor speed it states 2. One 3.3GHz, the other 5.8GHz. Why is this so? Is this common to all i2500K that overclock? I did install core temp to monitor CPU usage and temperature. When running Unigene, I notice the clock ranges from 1566 MHz to 4498MHz (I set OC to 4.5GHz), and sometimes even hit 5800MHz (though for a short few seconds). CPU highest temp recorded was 51°C. Is this normal?

itu turbo boost....
better off it I think

Is it better to turn off turbo boost? Why? Care to explain?

I don't think your value RAM can stand 1600Mhz for prolonged usage due to heat issue. Make sure you cool it down properly or wait like time bomb b4 it start giving up  smile.gif

Hmm... well, ram lifetime warranty. If kong, just return if the product is still alive. I think 4GB DDR3 1333 should still have maybe 2 to 3 years product life.

Just called viewnet warranty dept. Basically you need to bring the mobo, the box, the manual, the whole lot of stuff back then only they will swap the new B3 mobo. If you miss out any of those things I don't think you can swap your mobo.
