QUOTE(yinchet @ Sep 19 2011, 03:30 AM) TBH, I was hoping to see 15-20% of improvement in processing power. anyway it is still too soon to say anything about the improvement until we see some benchmark. 15-20% improvement is too optimistic. You're looking at improvement that happened from Nehalem to Sandy Bridge. Even a die shrinked Nehalem, Westmere didn't have a 15-20% improvement over Nehalem. QUOTE(billytong @ Sep 19 2011, 08:55 AM) Same thing a 15-20% increase should be reasonable, had they didnt put the benefit towards GPU. Besides being half the size of SB should allow IB to have 6 cores on a same die area but Intel didnt wanna do it to kill SB-E. It seems to me that Hexa core Intel CPU will be exclusive for Enthusiast market for a while. It is normal practice that you wouldn't want your products to compete with each other. That is why you wouldn't see a SB Core i3 21xxK as it is definitely going to have a negative impact on the sales of Core i5 2500K and Core i7 2600K. Now the current race is not so much about raw performance but reasonable amount of performance or similar amount of performance but with less power. The mobile market currently is way larger than the desktop market.

BCLK overclocking return with Ivy BridgeQUOTE Now, the good seems be just getting better, as we move forward. According to the stuff seen at the IDF, Ivy Bridge CPUs decouple the main clock finally, following what the coming Sandy Bridge - E Socket 2011 is also implementing. Now, you can overclock the cores and memory without worrying about affecting the I/O and PCIe clocks. But then comes the more interesting piece news. Now overclocking becomes interesting again instead of the mundane increase multiplier and voltage that comes with Sandy Bridge.

QUOTE(najmul @ Oct 16 2011, 07:31 PM) hey guys,im thinkin of switching to intel, but i'm having trouble choosing the right mobo..i'd like to know if the gigabyte g1 sniper 2 actually will support ivy bridge? i'd like to future proof myself There is no 100% guarantee that the current H67/P67/Z68 motherboards will support IB even though IB will use the same LGA1155 like SB. Save yourself the trouble and just get SB for what it is and if you're lucky we'll know if SB motherboards will support IB in a few months time. Most probably you are not going to see much improvement from SB to IB as the IGP gets more improvement than the CPU, so if you're using discrete GPU then the CPU performance increase is minimal.

QUOTE(sepulse @ Nov 19 2011, 07:41 PM) ivy bridge Q2-2012. can tahan? If the rumors are correct that IB will be in March, then it would only be Q1-2012 which is about 4 months away. Not a long time considering that one might be displeased with what they have (SB) when IB comes out. The mentality of if it is new it must be good kicks in to full gear and compulsive spending happens.

QUOTE(kapultek @ Nov 20 2011, 10:28 AM) i3 2100 and i5....does it difference to much in reality uses i3 2100 + HT will help a quite a bit in games. i5 2xxx with 4 physical cores would be better but the i7 26xx + HT has negligible difference in a low threaded application even in games.

QUOTE(Lurker @ Nov 23 2011, 02:14 AM) z68 mobo with i5/i7 chips does it means that during gaming it will use my vga card, but during less intensive usage like browsing it will use the intel build in graphics thus save power?? issit auto switch?? That is the idea behind it as it is supposed to be like Nvidia Optimus. You could check more on Lucid Virtu but some motherboards from Gigabyte does not support it even though it is a Z68 chipset.

Launch dates of Ivy Bridge processorsQUOTE As you may already know, next generation of Intel processors will be built on Ivy Bridge 22nm microarchitecture, and will be launched in 2012. Ivy Bridge was originally planned for the 1st quarter 2012, however it was delayed until March or April 2012 due to weak PC demand. It was also rumored that the delay could be due to production problems. We recently received new information on Ivy Bridge release dates, and, according to that information, Ivy Bridge CPUs will be delayed by another month, until April.
April's official launch event will include third-generation Core i5 and Core i7 desktop products, and Core i7 mobile chips. Next wave of IB CPUs, consisting of desktop Core i3s and Core i5 mobile microprocessors, will be available later in the second quarter. Desktop Pentium processors will follow in Q3 2012. Interesting that desktop and mobile Celerons will stay on older Sandy Bridge core, and will not switch to 22nm process in 2012.

QUOTE(mekboyz @ Nov 26 2011, 02:53 PM) does the i5 2500k come with intel hd3000 graphics? because it says on the side of the box. im using a p67 mobo so it doesnt have built in graphics.. Yes, only K series processor and mobile processors come with HD3000. Since you're using a P67 motherboard you cannot use it.

QUOTE(MazeLoL @ Nov 27 2011, 03:25 PM) Guys, can anyone help me on this ?? So basically i just get my rig few days back, and the processor already OC to 4.4 but base clock on 1.6. So 1.6 izzit too low ? because i uncounter some laggy issue on Internet explore x64 but no lags on game like BF3 So izzit the Interior Explore problem? or the Processor base clock too low?? but this laggy issue is not always there, Sometimes is smooth but most of the time..in laggy..=.= If you're referring to the idle speed than BCLK then 1.6GHz is definitely normal because when your computer is not stressed, it has to idle to save power. Throttling your CPU to 4.4GHz all the time will not improve your performance in any way and puts unnecessary stress on your CPU and waste electricity. If IE lags then it is probably IE's fault. Try using other browsers like Firefox, Opera, Safari or Chrome to compare.

QUOTE(AlanSiew @ Nov 28 2011, 12:50 PM) IB i7-3770K 3.5GHz just more than SB i7-2600K 3.4GHz 100MHz only. How is that a bad thing? IB still has better performance/watt compared to SB. QUOTE(Boldnut @ Nov 28 2011, 01:45 PM) Ivy bridge is definitely capable of 4GHz base frequency. SB alone can run 4Ghz on stock volt. So ivy shouldnt have problem on that to even clock 4GHz as official base. The only reason I can think of such low 3.5GHz base frequency is AMD under performing BD is making Intel slacking. I've mentioned already in the past that there will not be a 4GHz IB even if it possible to do so. The sub 4GHz frequency is due to the fact that more performance is not IB's aim. Intel's aim is to have better performance/watt and better IGP, both of which benefits the mobile end and has very little significance to the desktop end. It is rumored that most IB should be able to go 5GHz. This is 500MHz more than the 4.5GHz that majority of users will be able to attain easily with SB. If Intel were to increase the base frequency, then it will not look as though it has better overclocking headroom compared to SB.

QUOTE(Boldnut @ Nov 28 2011, 06:23 PM) thats the confuse part as TDP has very little impact on desktop. They can go forward with better performance/watt on mobile & leave the desktop @ higher performance @ 95TDP instead. Most SB can do 4.5GHz, beyond that we will be talking about chip degradation issue. So I guess IB will resolve this issue by adding another 500MHz headroom. TDP has quite a little bit of effect even on desktop. Remember when BD came out and the TDP and power consumption was very high? Nobody is going to close one eye and say that power consumption doesn't matter even on the desktop end. I know that Intel could release a 95W TDP IB with increased base frequency to match a 95W TDP SB which in turn would make the IB have higher performance like an overclocked SB but this would cannibalize the sales of the higher end SB-E when a factory overclocked IB can achieve the same results as a stock Core i7 3930K and Core i7 3960X in most tests. We'll probably see the standard TDP reset to 95W when Haswell comes out and take advantage of the TDP that IB did not utilize. Things could also go backwards with overclocking potential decreased with a shrinking manufacturing process but that is not 100% confirmed. With Intel increasing their maximum 57x multiplier on SB to 63x multiplier on IB, it is possible to assume that a huge majority of IB chips will be able to overclock till 5GHz.

QUOTE(Rumor) Performance comparison of Core i7 3770 relative to Core i7 2600. Core i7 3770 has an extra 100MHz Turbo Boost advantage over the Core i7 2600 hence the slight performance increase. Take it with a grain of salt though.

QUOTE(mizi28 @ Nov 30 2011, 02:38 AM) Hi guys. I have a question. The built in gpu in desktop sb hd3000/hd2000 is it the same as mobile sb gpu? because last time i used hd2000(i3 2100) to play heroes of newerth at 1440x900 the performance is quite decent. so i wonder if mobile sb hd3000/hd2000 can perform the same as the desktop version They are almost identical with little variations in IGP frequency depending on the CPU model that you bought.
