Another guy went for a DB in house navy kid mohair.
i think i may be the person in question here.

just went for my third fitting with AL this afternoon. i think he will be finalizing (is that the correct term?) the suit after this.

will post some pictures up tonight of the fitting session.

the more i look at these pictures, the more i feel like this is going to be a rather expensive tuition fee.

comment away, guys.

for what it's worth: i'm 173cm tall, weight about 71kg currently.

by the way, please ignore that shiny looking thing in the picture. i believe that's the camera strap. only noticed it when i was resizing the pictures just now.

shoulders will be extended 0.25" on both sides (there were divots on the sleeveheads, left side more apparent than the right), shoulder padding will be reduced to a bare minimum, sleeves will be loosened up a bit. AL seems to think that the jacket is too waisted (compared to my 'broad' shoulders), so he will undo the darts a bit. will also let out a bit more at the lower back so that it falls a bit more vertically.

pants? they seemed like the right length and they're comfortable even when i'm sitting (family jewels have adequate room), but i'm not too happy with how they look from the back. AL says the pants won't fall nicely but they will be comfortable to sit in. if i wanted the pants to have a clean straight look when i stand up, then they won't be comfortable when i sit in them. what do you all think?

we were tweaking the shoulders (deltoids seemed to portrude too much), the shape of the lower back (which was following my lumbar curve a lot), and trying to make it a waisted jacket. sleeves seemed okay.

big mistake with the pants was that i didn't address the back balance on the first fitting session (i was in a rush). next thing i knew, the pants were ready. AL seems adamant that the pants cannot be changed anymore.

bigger mistake was probably i didn't have another pair of trained eyes to help me in this whole endeavor.

Added on August 25, 2011, 8:07 amby the way, can you please describe what entails in the final stages of fitting, kotmj?

My ideal of the final fitting is I put on the jacket and I look and I peer and I scrutinize myself in the mirror and I can find no fault. Every issue from the previous fitting has been addressed. Then to jack up AL's blood pressure I say I want a 3 button after all, not one button. Then I say I was kidding. Then I leave the shop and have a nice dim sum breakfast.

heh cheeky.

i honestly don't know if my DB is still salvageable, but if it is, can i ask for your help on it?

just crawled out of the woodwork is quite apt. sorry for imposing on you, but thanks a lot for accommodating me.

i'll call AL tomorrow and ask him to implement those changes. he won't be too pleased about it, that's for sure.

managed to talk to AL and convince him to implement the changes to the jacket. surprisingly, he didn't put up any resistance when i said i wanted to come in tomorrow to try the jacket again.

feels like i'm reading an oakley catalogue, what with the exotic names attached to the elaborate descriptions.

I am very busy on saturdays, once upon a time i could still meet up for fitting sessions and for coffee and talk about ther semiconductor industry and dentistry but now I am a coatmaker's apprentice. I even have a wedding dinner to attend this saturday.

AL is not a great stylist. He's not even a particularly conscientious fitter. As I've written in my sticky, Iris would be the best. If you use AL you need to have looked at a thousand bespoke suits and have a clear idea of how a great suit should look like.

Remember to take pics and MeToo and others will provide feedback for you to bring to your tailor.

heh, i feel like i may have been the last (or one of the last few) to benefit from kotmj's sessions with ALT.

and talking of whom, he still hasn't got my suit ready!

talking about rtw, a colleague of mine wore a jacket she bought from H&M to work yesterday. it wasn't exactly a great fit on her because of her very ample chest (ahem), but what caught my attention was that the jacket has working cuffs. and the lining was done in the traditional manner (correct me if i'm wrong): white material with thin stripes for the sleeves, and a rather cute white polka dot on blue/black material for the torso.

not bad for sgd60.

Um.. what's wrong with that? My last suit made was SB2B + peaked lapels. Oh and no vents as well wink.gif
oh, nothing wrong with it. just that most people go with a notch for an SB. i've been toying with the same idea myself, so i'm quite interested in the outcome so that i can decide whether to go with peaks for a future commission.
