QUOTE(Ad Hominem @ Apr 8 2011, 02:39 AM) deriku, you could at least tell these guys here who your tailor is, considering you yourself found him through SF. Basement of a building, young-ish mid 30's couple, right? Anyway, next commission (fully canvassed!) please take detailed canvas construction pictures - I'm assuming they're machine stitched, but I'd like to see the layers, shape, and any vees / darts (if any). Spot on! The name of the tailor is D&J. I have not personally gone to Dave's, but apparently their suits are in the RMB5k range.

Interesting read on the Zhongshan suit aka Mao suit. I doubt you'll see any of these in Malaysia; I find it hard to come by even in the Chinese capital (but then the area where I live and work has a high expat concentration). http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/cndy/2011-05/...nt_12486002.htmWould you wear one of these?

QUOTE(mchx25 @ Jul 11 2011, 12:36 PM) Hi, I was thinking of getting a two piece suit done..... Its for my graduation/convo ceremony......so I was thinking of making a day to day suit. Unfortunately, I don't have much time...its on 23rd of July.....do you guys think I have sufficient time.... And I don't want to rush things.....worst off, i dont want to simply buy a polyester type just because i dont have enough time to make one Give your tailor a call to find out the turnaround time. Given the circumstances you may need to settle for one or two fittings at most. Don't bother buying your own cloth unless you specifically know what you want and where to get it. If you don't have a preferred tailor yet read the sticky in the main page.

You know that you should avoid polyester (or any other synthetic material), so that's a start. Kid mohair has been recommended for its coolness but I have no experience with it. As long as you get all wool fabric (no finer than Super 120s if you don't want to get berated on this forvm), you're fine.
Oh, and don't ever go for black.

If your tailor is a master fitter, one fitting is all it takes. If in doubt, ask for two. If he tells you your suit will be ready in 3 months, does it make the suit superior in quality? Time to complete a suit is not indicative of the finish (although I'd avoid those 24hr tailors).

No, what makes you think that?

Does not look very promising to my untrained eyes. Jacket is too short, lower button position too high, sleeve needs rotating. The fabric looks shiny, is it polyester?

The jacket has a very feminine side to it from the back.

QUOTE(uturn @ Oct 17 2011, 11:41 AM) Hi guys.. appreciate your comments on this particular fabric selling on ebay.. Do you think what the seller is saying are true?.. He said.."....if this was sold as a retail item it would cost over £150 a meter if you could get it anywhere, the manufacture cost was £75 per meter before profit its a fantastic buy !!!! .." I'm just trying to get a little grasp on how to value fabrics sold internationally. For reference. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6mts-60-wide-ENG...=item2eb86e10efClick on the link in the original post above.

As kotmj has mentioned before, for a summer suit, it is not only the weight and composition of the cloth that matters. Look for a fresco weave which gives the suit a more airy feeling. I have seen fresco wool weigh in excess of 10z which is supposedly the best weight for a perennial suit. Whether the jacket is lined also makes a difference. FTFY QUOTE Oh.. & if you're buying wool + poly, then don't bother buying it.

QUOTE(MeToo @ Oct 19 2011, 12:40 PM) Worsted is good for suits/pants etc. U can google it up to understand why that is so. Dont worry too much about weigth etc.. as long as its not winter weight its fine. Whatever suit u wearing you will sweat like a hog. I was attending a dinner (in a 270gm suit) in Sunway Resort (which have great airconditioning i might add), just walking over to Pyramid and goign to the ATM made me sweat like I've been runnign a marathon. Maybe it's time to get a linen suit
