QUOTE(Geminist @ Apr 19 2011, 03:58 PM)
Thanks for the ideas.

I know it's a bit hard to describe, but what do you mean by different between the two? I know it's a closed can design but that's about it.

I have read quite a few comparison and some even said it is a 701 killer.

I like to try it but trouble is I am in London and I don't know where I can try.

What do you mean by grand piano wide sound stage?

Many thanks.
*
If you prefer go for Orchestra then this will understand more. Yup is much more like a grand piano sounding and how wide it is. to get this sound, you need a proper amp to drive it up. Amp is a must for all Audio Technica Woody series. What TechMy describe is right. mostly is hard for you to accept a very different sound signature when you already adopted a AKG. Totally different.

QUOTE(TechMy @ Apr 19 2011, 05:11 PM)
It's hard for 1 headphone to kill another.
Due to different sound signature, if i remember correctly based on my previous observation on both k701 and w1000x, both sounded different.

k701 is towards bright sounding and
w1000x sounded slightly warm (perhaps i prefer bright cans), and with the special effects (natural tree sound) that describe by bro Akabane, lol.

i may suggest ath-ad1000prm to you (bright sounding), smile.gif which i am currently using...
if k701 sounded like you are standing at the center of big open field, ad1000prm will sound like you are standing on the top of the hill.

k701 (big sound stage) vs ad1000prm (open refreshing air) biggrin.gif
Sorry, i am not good at describing sounds.  doh.gif

Oh ya, no love for ath-ad1000prm here?  thumbup.gif
Imagine standing at the top of the hill? It's so relaxing... lol, well, i am just disturbing over here.
*
Bro, thanks for clarify. hope to see you in gathering.

QUOTE(Sop.qiqi @ Apr 19 2011, 07:27 PM)
I tried ad1000prm at Jaben, still far far away from ad2000. Maybe the Jaben's can havent burn-in, but from what i remember, everything is in a mess in ad1000prm.
*
Actually what you listen is not burn in. AD1000rpm is almost in same with AD2000. AD2000 is much more on more juices on the vocal and soundstage is more wider. But you can see the different of the price right?? it kills.

Everything is in mass in ad1000prm? May i know what kind of songs that you listening at?
I think you are referring to instrument separations, especially there's a lot of instruments playing.
Yupz, that's not ad1000prm's strength. smile.gif
Trust me, ad1000prm have it's own strength... come, for the coming gathering organized by Bro Akabane.
Anyone using the AD2000 here? any chance to test it on the coming ATH gathering?
AD1000prm is good for Vocal too, especially for the voice of sweet young girl.  wub.gif  tongue.gif

hope Sopqiqi is coming for the gathering...he has a AD2000. thumbup.gif

yeah, like perhaps if theres some kinda earpads that can allow sweat to pass through and not just stagnant around my ears
*
So far i can see ATs full size headphone does not have this kind of model for pads can pass through the sweet except portable model for sport series.

Took the plunge and went for W1000X.

The sound signature is really different from AKG K701, I must say for what you pay for K701, it is an excellent headphone.  However the W1000X is more exciting to listen to than the K701 although bearing in mind I can buy two K701 with the price of on W1000X.

The soundstage on W1000X is good and the sound is warmer than K701.  It sounds wonderful with classical music, in particular the lush sound on the cello/violin.

My only complain is the headphone feels a bit lose on the head and doesn't give a secure feeling like the K701.

All in all, I'm now an AT fan (and also AKG laugh.gif )!
*
welcome to the club...so any amp will you getting for the pair of this amp??

I returned the Valhalla as the money meant for a new amp got diverted to this AT cans thanks to a broken AKG.

I would guess that a tube amp would go well with the W1000X?  For something priced similar to the cans, has anyone got any idea what would be a good tube amp? I'm currently running it from Headfive.

have your location has a yamamoto HA-02 amp can try out??? this is a good masterpiece

Hmmm.. The HA-02 should be about twice the price of the W1000x though...
*
Yeap price is expensive but still if you think about the full performance or for future add on headphone that similar characteristic smile.gif

QUOTE(Geminist @ Apr 29 2011, 12:39 AM)
I've read quite a few good reviews on the Yamamoto but yeap, the price is outside my budget laugh.gif

By the way, I noticed that burn in makes a difference to W1000X as the sound seems to have 'tighten' up after about 30 hours burn in.
*
yeap run-in/burn-in to make the driver season it. This will help more improvement of the headphone. My W1000X is already stop run-in went is mark to 2k hours. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Apr 29 2011, 12:03 PM)
well. the AT gathering have woodies, just no w5000 which is what im curious with actually ><

i dont see myself purchasing anymore headphones as at the end of the day i still favor open speakers more than anything. that could probably change if the pads for flagship/higher end reference headphones can actually solve my sweating issue. i know for a fact that the comfort level/quality of higher end headphones do beat out lower range ones ^^;
*
still unconfirmed with one person who owned the W5000. Anyway you had a changed to listen a W2002 which is a flagship and also a anniversary version which is much more better an d different from w5000. Went actually W2002 is a the highest flagship before L3000 is produce in market. Now the ATs highest flagship model is L3000 which world only has 500 unit only. W2002 only produced 1000 unit in worldwide market.

is already worth more than 2k usd already....i bought my W2002 is USD1.5k with a superb condition which no ding/no scratches on the surface of woody like new. even this headphone used less than 24 hours and keep for 9 years lol...you can think how much now the value of the L3000 now. with a nice condition i got offer price at least RM15-18k for one unit. also actually do you know there is a limited to limited version ??? L3000G is only 50 unit in the world. So means the Normal one is only 450 unit + 50 Limited to limited version. You can have a look on the Audio Technica Japan Official Website. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Tomorrow is the day of the gathering...now actually i'm packing my stuff to see you all...

Added on May 2, 2011, 5:11 pmoh and what model of AT headphone is good for music/movies if possible a good mic .. going to use for work .. my budget is below Rm350
*
you mean you need a multimedia type one with the MIC?? If Yes, mostly i think this model will not available cause is low demanding. If headphone with nice music/movie get T500 or M35 i think that is within your budget.

Not necessary..change cable went is there a problem like no sound. if not don't change it. somemore if you change the cable then you need to run a long hours for burn in the cable... sweat.gif sweat.gif

Currently using x-fi titanium fatality, feel quite ok, 6% of volume for common, loud while 10%.

Amp there is a many type of amp, some is more to loudness, some is more to refine the source...there is still more to go...maybe one day go have a listen in jaben headphone store...
