so, basically speaking, vocal on W1000 will be more forward while W1000x will sound bit in the back?

Hey all... Just bought ATH-SJ3 yesterday. I was looking for ATH T300 or T200 but after listening to the T200 and since T300 was out of stock, I discovered the t200 lack of bass. And After listening the SJ3 I get hooked. I just wonder if I make a correct decisions. Anybody else have try these models? thanks.

Need help here, Someone is actually mislead one of my friend. I have introduce an AD-700 for him for a gaming purpose and that guy keep telling him that a Logitech G930 is far more better than AD-700 like how many times with those wide surround sound. I wonder Logitech is a closed headset, why would it be far better soundstage than AD-700?

I was LOL hard for a moment. And he kept lecturing me about the Dolby Certified thing that G930 has and compared it to Cinema Dolby. I said man, you can't compare Cinema Sound to a headphone SQ. He still insist that G930 is better with 7.1 or those 5.1 effects. I know how to argue back, but is there anyway to stop him there and telling him that Logitech is making a marketing effort to deceive him?

I have neither of these so I can't comment much but, for gaming, I would not recommend AD-700 lol.
I mean, yes, I know in terms of sound quality, AD-700 for sure is going to beat G930 like nothing.

But when it comes to gaming, it is not necessary that a superior SQ headphone will be advantageous.
If you ask me, I'd get G930 SOLELY for gaming purpose too, I mean well, it's tuned for gaming.
And well, 7.1/5.1 on a headphone is basically a gimmick, depending on how good they emulate the surrounds.

Sure, an Opened back headphone will have better soundstage than a closed, but it does not emulates the 5.1/7.1.
It's still somewhat helpful in Games though, more helpful than an Audiophile headphone (Not to mentioned the Mic too), at least.

Just like I don't game with my K701/HD800. (It just doesn't feel right, somehow)

Basically...all the new games nowaday have surrounds lol.
Yeah, good question there, to be frank I know nothing about G930 but I do think it has a built-in soundcard that is responsible to emulate the surrounds.

Anyway..have you tried a 5.1/7.1 headphone before? While playing games like Dead Space/FEAR?
It's something that we always laugh at these fake/emulated surrounds but if done right, it's way better than Stereo lol.

Well, I guess the best thing would be still letting your friend to try them on. We all know, Opinions are best to keep to ourself.
Personally I could care less about the SQ during a game as long as it doesn't go bad. I'm just going to concentrate on the game itself anyway, long as the headphone produces what's necessary and crucial. And the built-in Mic on these headsets are just handy, I suppose. (Go ahead and laugh at me, I am using Alienware TactX headset for gaming lol)

I need some advise / opinions from ATH users...

I tested a few headphones at Jaben .. narrow down my options to :-

AD500 cos good sounding headphone, very comfortable (compared to other headphones) & good bass balance ....

Budget : around RM500.00
My questions, What is the key differences between AD500 vs AD700 ?
The price differences are quite big between the two...

Primary usage : listen to music ( occasional for gaming ) with USB DAC from my macbook...

Plan to DIY my own headphone amp later...

like it or not, you WILL be paying for the law of diminishing returns, and thats the nature with almost every hobby.

bottom line: AD1000 > AD900. however, i cannot afford the AD1000, thus i did not get it.

the price is almost double for the slight difference (better clarity, sound staging, instrument separation etc) that isnt justifiable for the almost double price. then again, hobbies are NEVER justifiable imo. so at the end of the day, its what YOU decide. if you think the AD1000 or even 2000 is much better, and you HAVE to have it, however cant afford it, do save up. if you can settle for lesser like the AD900 like i did, you may do that too.

in the end, its a hobby. one shouldnt stress out for it


here's another consideration,
if my life involves a minimum of 5 hour a day for headphone, that extra 5% refinement in the sound is very pleasing after passing the 2nd hr listening.. our ears always grows tired on listening, better refinement helps relief some (lots?) stress to the ears.
that's actually one reason why those who can justify the price of the expensive headphone are willing to pay for it. the more your listening capability improve, the more you will appreciate the minor refinement.

anyways, in the end, regardless of the benefits or preference or opinions, you are still spending money, and depending on an individual, there are responsibilities and other priorities. expensive audiophile headphones are most certainly not a priority nor a necessity:)

for my case, while my preferences were NEVER headphones, as i find having something over my head/ear for long periods just plain uncomfortable, thats the cheapest and best solution i can get for my home music listening (not to mention keep my neighbors content, rather than me blasting the G500 wwwwww)

other than that, i will be using my car audio aka ICE

then again, theres also *COMPLETE* home hi-fi setups (specialized sound proofed rooms etc, those are gonna cost you a friggin bomb) which are no doubt even more expensive than ICE.
