I have a very simple yet complicate question: How do you know 'certain date' is the end of the world?

There isn't a solid proof on date about the end of the world. You just can't simply believe in rumours throughout the world telling that 2012 is the end of the world. I thought science have evidence for every research, so where's the evidence for this one? There isn't any actually.

No scientific argument on when the world will end and the primitive Mayan calender simply stop at that date, if they live until today, they would have adopted current Christian calender but they extinct instead. Maybe they don't want to see 2012 so mass suicided? Too bad, if its going to be end of civilization, I want to see it and laugh because life is a joke after all but if not, damn reality.

QUOTE(zebra1995 @ May 16 2011, 04:17 PM) Huh? What does he do? I don't think he is related to the so called 2012 ideology although I know he is a film director. This post has been edited by yen2009: May 16 2011, 05:36 PM

QUOTE(abubin @ Apr 19 2010, 02:48 PM) I know this topic would better suit posted in /k/ thread but I do not want those /k/ people spoiling the thread. Anyway, if you have watched the movie 2012, it does says by the mayans that the world is coming to an end in 2012. What made me posted this thing here is because yesterday I heard from a relative that she actually believe 2012 is really coming. She got the information from some documentary about such apocalypse and she actually believe judgment day is coming. This is helped by she being a very religious person. Then she saying things like she worried about getting a new car because scared that when 2012 strike, she might be jobless and no money to pay for the installment. So, what do you guys think? Do you really believe in 2012 or end of the world is coming? Or some major catastrophe is nearing? These are for people who having nothing else better to do. To them, life must be damn boring.

QUOTE(anti-informatic @ Jun 3 2011, 02:43 AM) after so many pages, still only assumptions and talks from ppl with weak science knowledge judging 2012 i have no comment again well, at least I would believe end of the world happening more than I would believe the existence of god. All the debates on how the world would end...meteor or disease or sunburst and so on all seems logical and plausible. But god's existence...bleh..don't even get me started.... Human are humans. We are not design to know the future. Live life as it is. The end of the world just mean that new life will sprung up. Hopefully we humans will not have some crazy leaders that will lead us to WW 3

I guess the reason for many to even consider Mayan's 2012 is because these Mayans does have credibility. They are considered to be a very advance civilization during their time. As such, the 2012 thing does hold some ground.

We did not choose to be born and don't matter if planet zoo become inhabitable, we die wondering the purpose of our existence. What is the purpose of Earth or the Universe? If we are destined and fate is predetermined, what for?
Everyone is expected to die one day, so do you care how or when? Does it matter?
