sorry to butt in without going through all pages, but i really need to refer thise problem to you overclockers. based on the fundamentals i read, everytime you overclocked you need to maintain the PCI/agp clock to 33/66. i am using Abit KV8-Pro so i used the feature they had on the mobo to lock the values.

nervertheless, when i overclocked my PC to 1917Ghz@213x9 (using A64 Clawhammer 2800+) i can use it to do a little bit of everything except gaming otherwise my Pc will lock up.

here the best part, i released the lock and overclocked again, my pc works like a charm. i really hope someone can sort this out.

updated my bios and it seems the problem solved a bit because now i can't go higher than 1845@205X9 with locked pci and AGP bus though i raised the voltage and loose the RAM timing to 2.5-3-3-7 @ 1.7 Vdimm. the processor passed the Sissandra CPU arithmetic test and super pi but it crash in test game 2 (battle of proxycon) 3D mark 2003.

i just wanna know..i heard somewhere before A64 2800+ with C0 stepping are hard to OC? how true is that? is that some kind of barrier to my system OC since i am using A64 754 2800+.

sorry that i didn't take any screenshot..

i manage to bring my humble amd64 2800+ OC here, 2025@225X9 1.525 Vcore and 2.5-3-3-7@ 2.70 Vdimm...still under testing for stability though bench able (super pi, SisSandra and 3dmark03). i can play BF2 quite well though it crashes just tonight...brought me back to desktop. I think it was problem with the game itself because of memory leak. still, i am not sure. have to try again tomorrow.

...looking for assistance...

due to instability, i have to clocked down my FSB to 222@1.575 Vdimm. HTL multiplier x4 now my OC stats is

1998 @ 222x9 @ 1.575Vcore stock HSF (46C full load, 35 ambient)
FSB:DRAM - 1:1 Corsair VS 512MB DDR400x2 2.5-3-3-7 2.75Vdimm

stable tests

3D mark 2003
prime95 - small FFT 7 hours
sissoftsandra

i am looking to up some more but chicken out already because I think my chip (AMD64+ 2800+ 754 SH7-C0 stepping) reached its limit (because it crashes at FSB 225MHz). need guidance to go further.

try loosing the timings to 3-4-4-10 and try again...
TRCD set to 4
*
--ah, it's sidewinders again!

er...the TRCD is the second number in that set of timing right? not sure already..by is it ok to set CAS to 3 since i am using RAM with 2.5 CAS...i'll try that. btw, these loose timing will make RAM ran slower right?

feeling itchy already...but i am at work right now.

anyway, i just wanna know how far my RAM (Corsair VS512MBDDR400 2.5C) can go..just a bit concerned since I already stress it to 444Mhz..

u mean DDR444(222MHz) or 444MHz?
*
err..i am using regular DDR400 RAM. when I overclocked my FSB to 222Mhz, while i am running FSB:DRAM 1:1..it means the RAM also running @ 222Mhz (cross checked with CPU-Z). translated to DDR rate..logically it is 444 (222Mhz x 2 cycle per clock)...aint that true?

----> PCcrazy

i really wished to know where can i tweak the memory divider on Abit KV8Pro..i already flashed the latest BIOS adn still i cant figure out where is it. now, the only way i can tweak is to reduce CPU multiplier...which will automatically set a new FSB:DRAM ratio...

i have a little problem here...

i manage to determine that my max fsb my cpu can handle is 267Mhz@1.7Vcore, 1.6V NB while my RAM can take as much as 222Mhz@2.7Vdimm 3-4-4-8 timing...all the benchmarks passed. so, mathematically, i arranged the overclocking stat to 265x9, mem divider at 11 to max out the CPU. despite the working benchmark earlier (determining MAX cpu FSB and MAX RAM speed), my system failed 3Dmark2003.

is there anything left for me to do?

got most stable setting finally...

250x9@1.675Vcore stock HSF

MEMORY DIVIDER 9/11@204Mhz 2.7Vcore 2.5-3-3-8 Northbridge 1.6V

just a little boost i might say, but this is only setting i can get Prime95, Sissoft Sandra, 3D mark 2003, super pi stable (sorry i forgot to snap the pic). actually, i want to ask for opinion how to push more. because i get prime95 stable setting @ FSB 267x8, memory divider 11 but crashed in 3d mark 2003. is it as far as i can go?

jslut,
mazdagtr210 already up to 2.565 320x8 with ac freeze on 1.57v. -.-"

but your u update the wrong speed
9. mazdagtr210 ~ 2800+ @ 2240 @ 1.552V @ AC-Freezer64 @ Palermo (E6)
3. mazdagtr210 ~ 2800+ @ 2240 @ 1.552V @ AC-Freezer64 @ Palermo (E6)

KenL, that weird that your proc hit only 250HTT. Everyone here hit 300Htt easily and i personally run it under 2.7ghz for a week before.

Set your
HTT ratio to 3x once you over 250HTT
Your mem timing try run it abit relax for example 7-3-3-2.5 and on 1T. Sempron64 do better on 1T. Up your HTT voltage if you need. Mayb you try 2:1 divider. HTT250 is a nice number and seem sumthing is pulling it back. Your mobo have pci/agp lock?
*
err...you mean everybody using Sempron E6 or just everybody? i am curious also since I only manage to reach FSB 250Mhz only. more than that it might be unstable, especially on 3D thingy. i wonder if my RAM is limiting to go further..

oh, btw i am using Clawhammer 2800+ SH-7 C0 stepping. i also read in other forums saying that these C0 stepping is harder to OC.

tikutiku:I'm not really sure how to set the timings, only the ratio. now running at 3:2 and 800MHz HTT. not sure got agp/pci lock. board is Asus K8V SE

usually, you can go to BIOS and enter to DRAM setting. I dont know about ASUS but on KV8 Pro, the setting lies under ADVANCED CHIPSET FEATURE>DRAM CONFIGURATION. loose timings (bigger figure sets) usually help to stabilize the RAM (if you figure out that the RAM is the devil which stops you from going on). nevertheless, i read somewhere that you should only go as low as 3-4-4-11.

well, in my case, I manage to reach 267 FSB but at that level, my PC will only be stable in SisSoftSandra and SuperPi (normally, I tested the stability by using those 2+prime95 large FFT and 3dmark03). loosing the timings didn't help..and the memory divider set at 8:12. i have tested that my RAM can go as far as 222mhz (444Mhz DDR). i don't know what's wrong..

btw you have to be sure that AGP:PCI freq is maintained around 66:33 (67:33 is acceptable)...else you might corrupt you hdd...and fry your add on cards.

after doing the overclocking...i noticed my PWM (Pulse Width Modulator..err i am not sure) temp increased drastically. i even detected it went as high as 59C. though i checked the temp limit to be 85C.

because from the PWM chips from older mobos are cooled with heatsinks..i even noticed the PWM chips (in amplifiers and PSU) are attached to the heatsinks.
