Hello everyone,

My dog has not been feeling well for past few months, we have brought him to a vet and the vet says our dog has kidney problem - like what humans have and need kidney dialysis which sadly is not an option for dog, at least not in malaysia or at a cost we could afford.

Ever since his condition started, he is always reluctant to eat and rarely gets up to walk around but past few weeks his condition has deteriorated severely where he doesn't have energy to get up at all and he refuses to eat, we've been feeding him milk and sometimes we had to force it down his throat since he doesn't want it.

He's really suffering and I've decided to put him to sleep, can you guys tell me how it'll all go down and the cost of it?

try to contact spca. they will do that.

Any vet should be able to do that for you. It's a very peaceful process, like how they do it for the lethal injections in the US. For animals they usually use pentobarbitone, and the initial injection will act like a general anaesthetic and put your dog to sleep, and then the next dose will cause the heart to stop and the body to stop functioning after. Cost wise it shouldn't vary too much clinic to clinic but contact your vet to find out.

Ask your vet about the process as some vets may use different techniques. Tell the vet you want to be present for it. You can try spca or a vet, or noahs ark. That's a sanctuary but they have a vet too. He is very professional but I dunno if he does euthanasia. Hope it helps

my ex dog faced the sme condition. he refused to eat. and even after giving him some milk and little sfot bread, he would vormitted them out within minutes. he could not walk as his legs were wobbling as the legs were too weak to carrry his body weight. another week, i saw his ribs and his stomuch disappeared into his body. it was such a painful sight. his body became very smelly. i still gave him milk but no use after few days. i had to send him to a vet and put him to sleep. it cost me rm 100. peace to you and your dog.

Actually why is everyone giving milk to dogs?

Water & glucose is better for energy & to hydrate them.

Milk, yogurt, dairy products are high in calcium and if given to dogs with bladder problems it could make it worse if I'm not mistaken. Give fluids that will not stress the bladder system.

Euthanizing can be done at almost any vet as it is basically an overdose of the same thing that knocks them out. It is administered intravenously and the dog will simply go into deep slumber. They will continue to pump until the heart stops.

The cost can be anywhere between RM10 to RM30. Depending on your dog's weight I guess.

You also have to think about what to do with your pet's body.

Some vets do offer burial services. Cremation not so sure,...

Cremation depends on the size & weight of your dog. Minimum is RM400 I think. My dog was cremated for RM500 +

jz for yr information, some vets can help u with the disposal of the animal's body if u dun not wish to bury or cremate it.. as for the cost of euthanasia depends on the vet charges, but normally it'll be below RM100.. perhaps mayb u shud go back to the same vet that diag yr dog's kidney prob..

Sorry for not updating this thread.

Actually my rottie passed away the night before I plan to bring him to euthanasia..

I had to wrap his body up nicely which was very saddening.

Next day I pretty much called up like 10 vets in johor bahru to ask what are the ways to dispose my boy's body. Surprisingly no one offered such service and all just advice me to bury in my backyard which is not an option.

Luckily a vet recommended me a guy called ah bee, he was very kind and helped buried my boy. He also re-wrap and clean my boy before taking him away.

I think he also runs a shelter as he had offer me dogs for adoption, so if anyone would like his contact please do not hesitate to let me know..

I understand where you come from, My dog Spot passed away 2 years back because of liver failure. He had a swollen gut, would not eat but would drink loads and loads of water and would hide in a part of the garden where he would spend the whole day laying there.

The vet did request if we wanted to put Spot to sleep as he was already 9 years old, but we refused as we believed Spot could come out of it.

He stayed with the vet which did their best to help Spot but he passed away one evening in the Vet's clinic.

I regretted not being beside Spot during his last few days. Being alone in the vet's cage as he passed away still makes me feel guilty. If I could have done any different... I'd choose for me to take him home when the vets told me I could... at least then Spot could pass away with his family around him.

sad ....all the dog also facing the same fate , my dog wait for me to come back to see him before he pass away , he is like my companion since teenage time, there actually are very much like human there will still want to see there love one ......ARGG sad

feed ur dog to drink hot milk ~

regarding kidney failure/damage, you can ask your vet about something called Azodyl
it can help improve the condition and prolong the lifespan depending on the severity
but the drug/supplement is not cheap and if you have a tiny dog, it might be difficult to feed

back to the topic, most vet can arrange for it and some even can arrange for cremation

UH..THIS THREAD MAKE ME FELL SAD...

Don't feel so sad....at least the dogs do not have to suffer any more. May they rest in peace.

I'm looking for one also... my dog in final stage of cancer, but the vet I'm visiting doesn't do euthanasia. Did you found a vet to do it?

My dog still fighting, doing her best. but I know I have to prepare for the worst..

No amount of preparation could've prepared me for my pet's death, I wish you can spend the remainder of his days with love and care

I did put my boy to sleep as well due to cancer

I have booked for euthanasia, but she go on her own term a day before. Just after I pat her head, I go back inside the the house for less than 5min, and she is gone when I return..

My family used to run a shelter / sanctuary for abandoned stray and puppies for decades. Became a sanctuary by accident because more and more strays started to show up / invited by their friends and we just kept caring and feeding them.

What i've learned
1) Can't save them all
2) Some needs to be put down
3) Dogs don't live as long as people, it's sad but have to accept that fact

We bury the dogs that has passed on.
