Wanna ask b4 sharing. Is this thread exclusive to TS's shots, or open to pics by everyone else?

This one had a big chunk cropped off.

First was shot with 18-55. Rest with 50mm f/1.8. The 50mm f/1.8 is so short compared to the other lenses other people were carrying, it makes me look like holding body only. So malu.

One thing wanna ask, are the rule of thirds in play in portraiture? I can apply but sometimes it seems a bit tight...

lol sometimes it's a bit difficult to ask them though coz they're busy talking with one another.

I do say 'thanks ah!' after taking their pictures though.

Wow cassplayer you really have eagle eyes. I did overdo on the contrast coz I always thought my camera produces shots with not enough contrast. Or is it that obvious that it's overdone? LOL.

This is with the contrast PP undone:

To be fair to #3 (Avira ambassador), I did take a head-on shot. Didn't like how it turned out. #3 was taken when I realised I left the platform too early and should've taken a few more shots.

#2 I still dunno how to handle low light conditions. Used the built-in flash. If I increase the exposure (i'm using Lightroom), then the flare (?) will be overblown. Should've trusted my nifty fifty to give me the shots.

Thanks for the input so far!

haha again to be fair, all the shots were cropped and recomposed to conform to the rule of thirds. Guess I PP-ed too much and ruined the shots. Still need to learn to take shots that are generally accepted to be pleasing.

Thanks for the lesson guys! Still open for more input though.

is that due to camera shake or improper focus? Coz it's 1/200, but i tend to move on as soon as I hear the shutter snap.

Improper focus, you focus between her neck and the lip area instead of the face.

But good try thumbup.gif

Makes sense coz I set centre focus point, focused on eye and recomposed. Guess I need to set it to the side ones to reduce deviation.

You should set Manual AF Point Selection.

Select the AF point yourself.

Yeah that's what I did, I selected the center one. Using 1000D if that helps to visualise. I used One Shot AF.

QUOTE(cassplayer @ Apr 18 2010, 01:14 PM)
Single Shot AF = 1 Shot.

Continuous Shot AF = Burst mode.

It doesnt affect your Focus point, I think since you shot her photo potrait style, should've set the AF point on the right (which comes out to focusing her face during potrait mode)

Oh lol a little bit of confusion there. All inputs noted!

@hoechou
K it's a dslr so it's easier to amend. What lens you used? It's totally worth it to invest Rm300 in a 50mm f/1.8. If kit lens you can try bumping the ISO? A bit grainy but still you're getting shots. Should've shot a lot more so at least you can try to post-process it to save some of it when you're back home.
