Went Ipoh Parade and Jusco at Ipoh. Both mall have 1 teashop each. Legend of Tea (which they have branch in The Curve KL). They seems to have some nice teapots... Tea wise nothing tempting (moreover sales people didn't even bother to offer me to sit or try)

If u're interested in new tea or tea within 5 yrs of age plus some teapots, I don't mind showing u a place I frequent. They're doing clearance sales now as they're going back to China early next month. But they don't carry any Dayi/XG tea.

It's located in Tow Boo Keong Temple Ipoh. The address is:
No. 2, Jln Tokong,
31650 Ipoh,
Perak

U can google for "Tow Boo Keong Temple Ipoh" for the map. It's located just further from The Store Jln Kampar.

If u want to see night life in Ipoh, u can check out Ipoh Garden East (just further from Jusco) and Ipoh Greentown. Airport near Jusco is considered a luxurious place to spend in Ipoh...

There are Dayi and Mengku there but it is fake. Other tea is ok as it is reasonable price. One good thing about China store is that you can nego for low prices.

There are 2 different stores there. The one I frequent does not carry any Dayi/Mengku.

I bought the y99 version. PM-ed you the price.

My friend was saying y99 has the original hong yan potential, and you are right, he also said it takes about 15 more years to unleash it's full potential. I decided to buy cause it is still affordable now. In 15 years more, it would not.

Hmm... I remember reading somewhere that Kunming Tea Factory was officially shut down in 1996. Unofficial production has been carried on until until 1998. It was then reopened in 2006. No offense meant but that the tea u bought were produced in Kunming Tea Factory 1999/2000 is kinda... questionable.

No offense taken smile.gif

The shop owner said 50 boxes was produced for y99 and he bought 40 boxes. His stock came from Taiwan (if I heard it correctly).

y99/y00 was features in the magazines and books. It won award in something. Too bad I don't know how to read chinese sad.gif

http://tw.myblog.yahoo.com/jw!VQDL1UaU...t=669&l=f&fid=5

I heard after 2006, Kunming production is not trustworthy. A lot of fakes.

From the page, on the line wif blue and red characters, if I read it correctly, it says there is no extra stroke on the forth character from the left on the upper line (), for the genuine product that is. But from ur pic below, the stroke is there (if u compare to his).

Another thing is, the dapiao looks too new for a yr2000 tea. Or maybe the camera killed most of the details in the pic?

One last thing: If this tea has won award and has limited production, it's unlikely that 80% of the total stock will flow outside China.

To me, the thing that's questionable is the production date. After the close-down of kunming factory, the parent company still produces tea but under other factories like menghai and XG, as well as other authorized factories. This is also when those irresponsible producers take advantage of the situation by using its brand. That's y there's a lot of fake zhongcha 90s products circulating in the market nowadays.

Yes, I noticed the y00 is diff from the book and the photo I took. The dapio you quoted is y00, my friend bought it at penang. I think maybe y00 batch is incorrect or got confused.
You see the left photo y99, I think it is the correct version compared to the book. The y99 dapio (the other photo) looks more dated. y99 has marks of insect eating the pu wrapping. I think the shop owner confused about y99 which is actually y00. But he insist he is right cause he bought the stocks.
Based on what I checked just now, I don't think a yr99 batch or this tea exists. The first batch was released in 2000, the batch without the stroke that is. Those wif the stroke are later ones. Just as u said, he may have confused the year of the one without the stroke. The one wif the stroke should be from later batches, can be up until 2004.

QUOTE
One thing I am confused is also kunming factory is 1, but the number is showing 8.

It's a custom ordered tea from what I gathered so I think the number is okay...

Meanwhile, here is the larger resolution for the magazine. I don't understand chinese, can you roughly summarized what it is trying to say?

The small text in the first image describes the details of the person in the picture. For the next image the text before the "G" are review of the tea from different persons, while those after the "G" are irrelevant.

I have a feeling that the y99 I bought is actually y00, and the shop owner labelled it wrongly.
There's another official name for this tea called "Kunming Millennium Red Brand Iron Cake 8668" (direct translation from Chinese), that's y I think that the owner labeled it y99 purposely instead of by mistake.

Normally the raw material of a tea is harvested 1 year in advance or more b4 the tea is released from factory. I've encountered some tea merchants who use this kind of method to sell their tea, leading their customers into thinking that the tea is actually older that it's stated. For me, it's the date when the tea is released from the factory that counts.

Other than the protection sticker, I think u can try using your UV light check for this thing I've posted here earlier in post #594. I've heard that sometimes the protection sticker doesn't reveal anything under UV light. But again, I don't have the latest Dayi products so I can't comment much on that. hmm.gif

Correct. Original storage from HK then Taiwan then everywhere. Cloud got mentioned this in his website. This tea is still not good for consumption. Wait another 15 years  tongue.gif

Well, 88 raw is just 7542 from the late 80s anyway. It's also famous because the concept of dry storage was first actually introduced. There's a story about it can be found somewhere online. This is the pic of the merchant who bought them out from zhongcha back then.

Btw auhckw, I'm curious about the price ur friend bought it at. It costs a fortune (last year, the market price is about $17000 yuan for 1 piece). Ur friend must be seriously loaded sweat.gif
