Common Kelvin White Balance Settings : 2500K - very strong orange tungsten light 2800K - strong orange tungsten light 3200K - yellowish tungsten light 4500K M6 - flourescent light (most flourescent tubes are green even though our eyes don't see it) 5500K - flash 6500K - daylight (or daylight-balanced flourescent light) 9900K - strong blue stage lighting or evening light
Xenon lighting is rare but that should be between 7000-9000K.
Whenever you enter a new situation that has different WB, just set your Kelvin WB again and test with one shot. You
should be able to do this with practice.
With the Sony A300 and A350, you can use Live View and see the effect of changing Kelvin WB... live!
M = Magenta G = Green 2500K = Blue 9900K = Amber
Take a picture. Supposing the picture is very Green, you need to add the opposite which is Magenta. If the picture is
too Blue you need to go closer to Amber. So if the picture is very blue-green-ish, you will need to go closer to 9900K
M9.
To prevent the built-in flash from appearing in pictures when in wireless flash mode, you can use any of these
methods, or a combination of them:
- use a darker aperture (e.g. F11) - use a lower ISO (e.g. ISO100) - use a shutter speed faster than your flash sync speed so that High Speed Sync is activated (e.g. 1/320th of a
second) - use a piece of exposed, developed negative film in front of your pop-up flash

the concept fugly, since you two hand hold your cam, the lens cannot hold like normal we hold d. and from picture, feel like the grip not so naise.. 2 cents over the concept model
edited: the concept i think better on prosumer who can zoom using the button.

Sorry, the link that brought you to this page seems to be out of date or broken.
hazril, congratulations!
alex_cyw1985: I like the slipper shot! #2 without tilt better. Love #3. Ouch cactus! Use DRO to help keep the highlights detailed. Love the flower shot too.
read the 1st comment in that website's post, which i strongly agrees.. someone who doesn't know how to properly hold a dSLR should not be given a task to design a dSLR.

yea, gone.... i was shocked too when i open my opera, keep press refresh, i tot lyn database crashed... lol
william, i do like 50% of the design, sadly the grip is a little, wierd, if only he can design vgrip too, and the design proves he is not a photographer (lacks of vertical component) lol... who knows sony might hire him to design the next A1000? LOL!
hi guys im thinking to upgrade my a300 kitlens if compare minolta 70-210 F4 beercan (700-800) with sony sal55-200 (400-500) which 1 is better? i read some review minolta is better (as sharp as sony G lens izzit true??)but with slow AF , izzit very slow? or any alternative lens can introduce to me?arnd tat price range

ya i doubt sony will be so "generous" to give so big discount......since previously someone said dealer complained cutting into their business.......
neo, the 014 number is yours?? so i call u when i reach?? i guess should b easy to find in klcc food court cos will see on table ALOT of camera a+ lens
zstan: I like #1. #2 works. The white balance is a bit warm though; if you used flash then you'd need to put an orange filter on it and set the WB to tungsten. Good job on the last shot, you got everyone looking (except the poor cropped lady on the right!)
Kul | Mo0: Happy Birthday dude!
hazril: Sony Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 16-35mm F2.8 SSM? But my Zeiss certificate doesn't look like that; it's more of a square.
Irishcoffee: The Minolta 70-210mm F4 beercan focuses slower on older bodies (A100, A200/A300/A350). However if you use it with Eye-Start AF it can be faster.
signither: That was for his last birth year.
amadeo: Can you update the street price list?
Sony A550 body only = RM21xx
Will see what else I can ask around about.
Oh and check out yet another Alpha ad!

please ignore my messy background, have no time to clean up my table. Busy preparing for my finals. Just want to snap and show the bag only xD
I went down to the camera shop to try out both the bags that i asked earlier, the lowepro messenger and the passport. My first impression on the messenger was OMG, the side padding is soooo thin that it is like a normal bag padding, cant protect my gears at all. That's why i chose the passport although the design is not really what i looking for, at least it has thick paddings and is within my budget. The outlook of the bag is quite simple, and it is quite troublesome to take out your camera as you have to unzip first, unlike other bags where u can just flip open the front cover to take out your camera. But for the price i paid for a lowepro bag, i cant really complain much xD

i seriously prefer zipped ones.... if those flip open, u are risking if u did not clip it, risking camera to fall off/out. zip ensure u always zip, even half zipped is still less risky

@ongdandy a230 retail price at RM1599, a price cut from rm1799 and no, a230 not for female user, guys do use so.. :0) why u think so? i think u should go pc fair with loaded, play all the model available there (N brand, C brand and alpha, or even O and another S brand from m43) then only decide.

and i was thinking is it sony alpha A230 only for female user?
u have 2 choice, buy tomolo, or wait till may, see what new model sony has to offer, then decide, by that time, A230 will drop again(stock clearance sales?).

i doubt they phase out a230 so fast... anyway, stock clearance sale for a200k (which i bought) is 1499 at sony center.
@fansoption don't forget your f42 also..
we never know, even the A330 stock throw price 1.3k at sony convention. something big is coming who knows...who know at may, sony suang suang throw A230 at 1k only? LOL...
well guess i m gonna buy dslr nikon then already decided to buy.
For ur budget... Going for D3000? If u planned to play 50mm f1.8, re-consider it. It won't AF on D3000. Unless u go for 50mm f1.4 or something like that else u need to manual focus for 50mm. Kit lens is fine. But... design wise, d3000 has better grip design, more ergonomic. D3000 no live view, a230 got D3000 3" screen~

@ongdandy good luck over N brand there.. welcome to jump here if anytime feel N not suit you.. haha..
@IwanAGP sony win N and C with entry level in-body AF and also in-body stabilization mechanism in this case.. to curb, always get a AF and IS/VR lens
d4rkholeang3l: That's why I suggested to turn the glasses to face you so more of it is in focus, even at F1.8.

F20 is marvelous, the bounce is enough for single storey ceiling distance max of 6-7meters at iso400 F4. not bad. i think this will be my favorite go around flash, (F58 will use for strobing and weddings only) best part, its so light, even when shooting direct, it can go really far and still not as terrible then expected

(albnok: the lens is sharp! as long as u have daylight, and it zoom pretty fast (i felt faster then my 55200 and faaasster then 18250), sadly, my hand after 10 minute of shooting, the SSS wont help much anymore :/ might need to spend money on a monopod or DIY one... lol)

stabilization, a mechanism to reduce shake during the exposure. while N brand and C brand use the in-lens stabilization (dubbed VR/IS), sony, use the in-body stabilization, the pro over is, you do not really care is your lens have the mechanism or not, coz in body to cover it...
a330, the con is, for me, a small Optical Viewfinder (a reason i pick up dslr) and have a lousy grip (compare to previous model) edited : if u like the vertical shooting (or portrait shooting) a330 at this moment still do not have a battery grips.

yeap... what is your budget? if u have rm2.5k budget, you can straight get a550+1855... it can last you longer and it is a very fun dslr too!! IMO, telephoto lens is not really a must unless you really like to take candid shots

haha... it's up to u la... u asking in alpha thread of course we will push for alpha. same goes for Nikon. but the reason that i bought alpha over Nikon was i want to use AF with 50mm prime... and u can use cheap minolta lens with sony too! unlike all the expensive nikon VR lenses...

give u one closure, nikon are using sony sensor more or less, they are part sony. u buy nikon or sony, still contribute to sony coorperation.
nikon rely on inlens stabilizer called VR (vibration reduction, just a marketing name), but those really great sharp lens (called prime lens), nikon Do Not have VRed Primes.... and prime goes up to 135mm, which rely a lot on stabilizer for a clear shot (if u have weak or shaky hand), hence sony's built in stabilizer, SSS is far more good in long run!
even the stabilizered lens cost 10-30% more expensive, for example of a great F2.8 crop lens is the tamron 1750, sony uses the non VC (another name for stabilizer), which cost around 1.5k, for nikon, the VC model cost 1.9k, if u were to use the non VC, most of the time u'll be cursing for blurry photo.

yo, I've heard of Nikon using sony's sensor or something like that too. U got the source where i can read on? I googled but can't find any proper source
i will leave the rest for a550 user as i dont own a550 also... haha...
i help u cont,
- better iso as, up to iso1600, its clean, (like canon iso now) - auto HDR (merge 2 picture to make a HDR photo) - 3fps, 5fps, and hi piority 7fps! (etc etc braketing stuff) - great DRO range (dynamic range color optimizer) - great LCD! 920k pixel, means super sharp playback! - tilt lcd 90degree bottom and top, userful for hard to reach angle - Quick Live View, faster then other LV by a huge margin, no lag, no wait, no missed shot. - face detection (and smile detection) - manual focus LV check - SD slot or MS slot. - HDMI out - improved AF system (auto focus more fast and accurate then A330 by 20-30%?) - bigger OVF then A330*. - Vertical grip optional.
- and serious FAST respond time. u might didnt realize it already snap photo before u realize u pressed the button.

honestly, the A550 price, has cause many other company to drop their body price, so to say, A550 has always been bang for buck (value for money)

Just went back from PC fair. I don't think i saw u guys!~ But i saw pretty much sony users, not walking in group but individual. Sien those booth showing dslrs in pc fair... Alll the dslrs are chained... But the chain is too short... can't even lift it up to enough height and try them... *Especially C... A still ok!~ At sony booth... i guess i use 1/125 shutter speed @ 800 iso still get dark shot... then increase it to about 1/20 only can get something bright. F5.6 on kit lens. *Just trying out alphas. Haven't own one. hehe

albnok: it is prone to CA easily, (or terribly), as long as the sun dont shine too direct to subject, then its okay, and i have to shoot F11 above to eliminate the CA... it there anything i can buy to help reduce CA?(or no such thing?)
ieR i didnt see it in your lens list also, so didnt know about the Heineken... yea, the CA for that lens is pretty crazy at the corners.. and that's on an APS-C, what more on an FF? i'm aiming that also
hehe...sony flash are relatively cheaper compared to others...try look in alphanatics.. =) hehe..the face is properly exposed but bumping your ISO to 800-1600 would allow you to capture more ambient light...just my 2 cents.. =)
haha...i using a300 can ar? i quite worried with the noise produced..always stick to 400 only..=/

just a question, I need to know where I go wrong...
1. How do i get clean clear correct white balance like sidewinderz pics? I am using flash (auto) 1/80 ISO1600 F5.6(variable and the smallest my lens can do) 2. How to get clear background (without model's shadow) when using with flash?

hmm..for me, i use custom white balance along with a yellow diffuser dome to match the light with the ambient light..the temperature i set to was around 3500 kelvin.. =) hope that helps...
when you flash, try using bounce flash instead of direct flash as it helps eliminate harsh shadows..a bounce card will help...engineer 1 yourself..its easy.. =)
another thing is to shoot in RAW as it helps give your images a 2nd chance.. =) i normally take RAW+jpg...

i think ur iso a bit too high..dun stick to one iso in all conditions...if too bright then lower it..my 2 cents..=)
i think i have to disagree, i would normally fix my ISO and just adjust my shutter speed instead..it is much faster.. =) a higher shutter speed is better than a lower iso..tat is wat i feel.. =)

zstan, noted...sometimes the room dark sometimes bright, i guess it takes more practice
sidewinders, is it the yellow gel for flash? i guess i will need that soo, but lets say if we cannot get that at hand, what else do u recommend? well its on stofen diffuer, f42 takde bounce card, but i saw many samples already probably will make one..

Sry sry. Last night tidur at 5am, cannot wake up. Albert calling me oso I too lazy to answer phone. Too sleepy.
Anyway, what for u all wanna see my PnS la. It's just a Ricoh with 28-300 lens. Kekekeek.
porkchop: Eh, you should use 18mm F3.5 and a slightly slower shutter speed e.g. 1/40s with flash - that should get rid of the shadow. ISO1600 is right.
Of course, if your flash is ungelled, and the lights are orange, you'll need an orange gel.
Kul | Mo0: Ouch! Where do we see high standard ones? Outside, the runways are full of the same set of Andrew's Models.
how much isit ar market price ... i didn't see the a550 one just now >.< all of the alpha series is like... err... save money on those VR lens and stuff rite?
If... a330 2.4k twin lens kit... Better go digital mall buy a380 twin lens kit 2255. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1226457 Else... Like what they commented, get an a550. Play with both of them then u know the difference. Especially the speed... Try burst mode. it's totally different. The shutter sound in a550 is nice *Btw, I'm not yet an alpha user(I keep emphasizing this...) hahaha

I went there quite late... I went to petrosains tgt following my school b4 that... Until 3.30 only come out. That's why i din saw u guys.
Oh ya... Talked on that petrosains trip... Want to ask hor... Today my school got one guy... i don't know him one. He brought a sony camera, not sure whether is dslr... but "looks" like... The camera got the screen on top, not rear part of the camera. Got viewfinder, not sure is digital or optical. What model is that? The design is quite interesting. haha
hmmm, sidewinder,z ur touch makes the colour so much better..anyway is it this below? if i am not mistaken it only point to the top rite? then how did u shoot? face the "orange" surface to the model?

albnok, understood, wanna ask if i allow lower shutter speed and use widest aperture, won't it over expose the picture already? + high iso? or i should control the exposure via flash power?? oh ya the gel, u showed me after the event too bad i didn't know much about the gel until i peep'ed a bro's shot...
ps.got one bro here ler, went friday, sat and sun going too!!!

yea..tat is the 1..the dome (white coloru thing) works like a artificial celing where the flash fire to the dome and the light softens up and travels to the model's face.. =) same concept with the orange dome..never fire it directly..haha ssk selling it for rm6 with 4 domes...
the picture wont over expose if you use lower shutter speed plus widest apeture and high iso...normally flash acts as a fill flash to fill up shadows on the face...just trust the metering system of your camera and let it do the rest.. =)...you will slowly learn from there
know you all will be busy discussing bout PC fair but C&C please
good shot bro...hehe...dun mind me, you got the full size pic? i wanna put it as my wallie...like the feel to it...pm me the link for the full size pic if you dun mind.. =)

thanks flickr resized my pic, any idea where can i upload but can maintain the full resolution?
porkchop: Depends on the light - if the light is already brighter on the subject, then no need; if the background is brighter, then the flash will fill in nicely.
i might be looking for a photo printer at pc fair tomorrow (today) .. do you have any suggestion? I just need printer that can print good photo .. i dont need those additional features like fax, scan, photocopy, etc .. my budget is RM500 but I am looking for something value for money .. .. any opinion?

eddybeh: I like #1. Shutter speed is too slow for #4 (use F3.5 or ISO800 or both!) Good catch on the elusive tattoo! Guess I'd prefer the tilt of Gatsby #2.
neo_lam: Looks like a flash gel will balance your WB nicely. Don't forget to label them with numbers!
zstan: Good catch! Can go slower shutter speed (1/30s) and ISO800 for better ambient exposure.
Banzai_san: Looks like the stage light was brighter than your flash - in which case you're better off not using flash.
wingster: Whoa what happened with #2? Her elbow and the girl behind's aligns! Nice #4, would be better if the circle was right behind her back. Well cleaned #6.

#5 - The black-top Sony Alpha 550 next to the regular silver-top Sony Alpha 550. Yeah the black-top one looks better. It is sold in China through Sony officially.
#6 - EXIF is included this round if you are curious.

good lens but no AF. suitable for shooting that require you to AF.
anyway i go test test the Alpha A230 yesterday, aiyoh i really disliked it - the mode knob so small and cacat wan. menu button cacat, dial / shutter button area cacat. grip so small that my small hands also don't like it.
I mean I've used A200, A300 and A350 and thought their buttons placements were well thought of, A230 feels like buttons placements went less optimal.

The A230/A330/A380 have no fans amongst those who have used the A200/A300/A350. It's too small to hold with comfort for the average guy. May appeal to some girls who like things small and light maybe..

urrgghh, yeah.
small and light - yes. i have small hands but i find the buttons placed on an almost 90 degree flat plane above the usual button area was a little difficult. for example the AV button and MENU button.
the mode dial, it's unlike other Alphas. it's like a 2-3mm thickness plastic that can only be dialled by thumb, and not a comfortable one at that. even the front shutter / dial feels so cacat.
goldfries: Do check out the A550, the current darling of the consumer market. Its MF Check LV mode uses the main sensor for Live View which makes using manual focus lenses a breeze. The A230 was so May 2009!
If you will, the A230 is more towards the Canon 1000D end, while the A550 is more towards the Canon 550D end.
Gouki: Northpoint Midvalley is where the actual repair happens.

oh I am aware of the A550. It's nice, my friend's using it (upgraded from A200) and i thought the button layout are good there.
last time i would recommend people A200 cos it's a good camera, combined with twin kit + free workshop, it's a bargain.

I totally agree bro. I still love my a200 even tho its super under utilized. On the a230, the grip is the worst part. For those who have fat fingers like me, u could forget a230 and get a550 instead. Better grip n hold. a200 FTW! lol~

ah, thx bro~ really appreciate it~ will head to MV straight~ i am a bit unlucky with my new a700~ somehow the eyestart sensor got some minor prob~ like when u view the OVF~ the eyestart sensor activate and dim the LCD display for power saving~ then it lit back on when ur eyes off the OVF~ but my a700 sometimes wont lit back on~
Yeah, the tammy is more than adequate for my needs at the moment. Don't really need zoom lens at the moment...... Decided to buy a tamron 1750 instead of a prime. Hmmm... maybe I should trade in for a prime.....
50F18 or 14 would be nice...you sure will addicted on dof...trust me
eh wnana ask i saw the sony 135 stf f2.8 its smaller than the CZ, but hows the output??
if not mistaken the sony 135 2.8 was the prototype of the minolta 135 F2.8 one O.O ... in Alphanatics theres an owner who have a pair of it XD (call Eagol3 ... and u may ask him for details)
I think it was similar (expect the F2.8 and F1.8) but dunno the IQ ....

Any sample pictures for us to judge? Most common ones are either too cold(blue-ish) or too warm (orange-ish).

It's not like I'm posting PC Fair pics for the first time and it's not like I have not stated previously that I don't bother to WB at these fair. And to be frank, it's not your first time commenting on my pics stating that the WB is off with regards to PC Fair either.
So my question to you is : Why are you harping on this issue? And why the allegation that I have little knowledge in tuning WB?

No worries, not everyone able to accept comments. To me, if you are sharing it online in a public forum, be prepared to receive feed backs be it good or bad. If you can't even learn how to receive constructively, by all means keep all the pics inside hard disk and don't upload so nobody would leave any remark on your pictures. Make sense?

It's not like I'm posting PC Fair pics for the first time and it's not like I have not stated previously that I don't bother to WB at these fair. And to be frank, it's not your first time commenting on my pics stating that the WB is off with regards to PC Fair either.
So my question to you is : Why are you harping on this issue? And why the allegation that I have little knowledge in tuning WB?
Whether you tune the WB or not in each PCFair is non of my concern. I'm just purely commenting that this set of PC Fair pictures is off in WB and the flash is too harsh. Oops, did I mentioned it too on your last PC Fair shots? If so and you still happy with your off WB shots, you may of course continue doing so.

speaking of WB..is there a thing called the wrong WB to use..because i took some pictures last time..and played around with different WB to get different mood..but ppl say my WB wrong..blur now...
yeah...you are right...like the Rule of Third....if you wanna follow you can follow... but we can break the rules also...but WB cannot be too over lah...like create a pic tht only consists blueish but the pic itself is a white cute girls will make it weird...
My only wish is they reduce the weight of 24-70mm f2.8 so that it'll be nicer to walkabout with rather than carrying a brick around. Who knows? Maybe it would. Could train your biceps la. Not a bad way to exercise. An expensive way of exercise. HAhahahA~
Add a grip loaded with extra batteries, diffuser, flashgun and trust me, you don't feel like exercising anymore especially during a long marathon to cover an event.

well, if its the shot you intended to take... theres no "correct" settings per se...
Agreed. There is no 'correct' setting. Depending on your intentions, shots can be cool or warm as you like it. In tungsten lighting, there's an orange cast. If you do not want the color cast then you can choose to remove it using WB settings.
Times when the so-called 'correct' WB will work against a shot are like
1. Candle light shots. Candle light shots are also prone to orange color cast but would you remove the orange cast in a shot like this?
2. Flourescent lighting gives a greenish cast. If you intend to show a creepy environment, the green cast can work for you.
Braynumb: In your signature, the Sigma 50mm F1.4 has HSM; the 12-24mm for A-mount does not.
porkchop: The STF is more able to smoothen complex backgrounds. We could've tried it at Sony Style KLCC! The primary difference is how every point of light is rendered. The following example doesn't show a complex background, but it gives you an idea of how it works.
Top-left: Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 135mm F1.8 ZA at 135mm F1.8 1/200s ISO320 Top-right: Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 135mm F1.8 ZA through a Kenko 2x MC4 teleconverter at 280mm F3.5 1/125s ISO800 (minor swirliness at the bottom, not always obvious) Bottom-left: Sony 135mm F2.8/T4.5 Smooth Transition Focus at 135mm F2.8 (transmission factor T4.5) 1/125s ISO800 Bottom-right: Sony 135mm F2.8/T4.5 Smooth Transition Focus through a Sony 2x APO Teleconverter at 280mm F5.6 (transmission factor T9.0) 1/80s ISO3200
I think I have to stop buying anymore accessories for now... wait my wife will ketuk my kepala.....
Hmmm.... maybe I should get a reflector set....
haha but according your suites I think 50mm F1.8 is enough hence you're not intend towards for Full Frame ... and also F1.4 wasn't seems to be fully utilize it at all the time

No offense, but the shots doesn't show the true potential of a 85mm f1.4.

50mm f1.8 will never be enough. You'll struggle hard in low lit area

well but in sony range ... I think two of them shares the commons in image quality (I think maybe the differences was the sharpness) while as for aperture, well F1.4 was too shallow by the way ...
albnok, sure will let u play with the sigma once i have it and at next tt also thanks for the explaination and pic, i kinda like the stf version more than the CZ one..guess next on the list instead of G zoom lens, i guess i will target prime again....

why so? because not enough bokeh or what?
Yea, the bokeh and sharpness.
QUOTE(goldfries @ Apr 19 2010, 05:35 PM)
if f1.8 struggle then i don't see f1.4 can be any better. just very slightly better but it's already too dark, the DOF may not be sufficient as well.
that time is flash time liao lor.
Not really, 50mm f1.8 at f1.8 is very teh soft, hence you have to step down a lot to get sharper image where else if you get 50mm f1.4 you don't need to step down a lot and your image won't go too dark. Certain primes are even better that it's sharp at wide open, and that helps a heap cause you don't need to step down a lot to get sharp images.

goldfries : Hahahaha what vikingw2k is trying to say is, go for Canon's f1.2. XD Oh well, what can I say about primes? I'm a prime-less man. ):
Once you taste prime, you'll never go back to zoom unless for convenience. My zooms stays inside my cupboard most of the time.

eh you referring to my post about cjlai's photo?
my thought is why pump ISO to 1600 when using flash ............ other than the thought of TTL + lower flash power needed.
If I'm firing flash, I'd go ISO400 - 800 range. perhaps he's got other reasons, I'm just curious.
QUOTE(neo_lam @ Apr 19 2010, 05:50 PM)
pumping ISO when using flash coz he wanna absorb more ambient light....
Yes, neo_lam got the point. Firing flash thinking that it'll help to compensate your ISO is wrong thing. You'll end up with PnS-like shots where you have the subject brightly lit surrounded by dark background. ISO helps to preserve the ambient lighting.

vikingw2k: yo dude, cool it off, its a waste of time to argue. u know this better then anyone else. shootkk is just trying to share his share of PCfair picture for people like me who cant go (from s'wak) not everyone has time to edit or pro in photoshop. a pic is better then nothing
shootkk: dont waste ur time arguing when u can spend more on shooting or editing, or maybe many other more meaning full stuff. cool okay? as long as u DO know that ur WB is a little off(or maybe a lot) and u DO know how to postprocess (or preprocess - set before shoot), then there is no point to this argument. stay cool, waiting for more pcfair pics!
cool guys, alright? no point proving who is right, coz some ppl like nice ambient, some like Pure white, even my wedding client sometimes like warmer, some like purewhite, i spend extra 10 hours just to convert ALL of them viceversa. cool?
zstan: there is not right or wrong in what WB u get or use in ur photo, but just that, WB should always show white as white.
my comment:
pic#1 : really too blue, but it can show as a nice cool feel of a person enjoying coffee beside a window with sunlight(noon) casting in. (still too blue) pic#2 : arent it same as pic #1? or u linked the wrong pic? pic#3 : too warm, it shows u are in very tungsten lit area. pic#4 : i like the warm color, it portray good atmosphere, but if to talk bout WB, its not white yet, but near... pic#5 : same as above pic#6 : to me, its bluecast (too cool)
pure white should be between pic#5 and pic#6.
usually, ppl shoot as accurate WB, this way, u still have a original white WB to edit, then adjust to the color effect to their liking,
if u were to shoot something too warm, sometime, it cant be recovered back to white, and editing might take too much time or unable to get a good edit result
its a matter of preference.
kmarc: reflector require help from friends to carry and adjust it, and require ur subject (model) to be still. mmm, not going to work. just shoot with what u have... later really not only wife, baby maya also ketuk ur head
Kul | Mo0: good price! grab it quick! (ehem, i recall something about u saying..............................)
vikingw2k: i think body plays a big role here, lot of us owns A2/3 series, which has unacceptable iso800/1600, hence not anyone would understand why we need iso1600 with enough distance (u and subject), F1.4 still give a sufficient DOF and sharpness, but we have to careful with lightsource that might coz 'glowing effect'* on subject. (*i dunno how to describe it)

oh say so la. i thought you referring to both at widest aperture.

yes, going by what you guys posted - it's fine but for the ambient lights it could be done via aperture / shutter speed without having to pump the ISO.
cos i look at his pics, the ambient isn't all too dark and neither are they distant lights. he doesn't look like firing direct enough to create dark background either.

Not really. Aperture and Shutter Speed alone is insufficient. Take for instance the image below. I've tuned to f1.4 and couldn't have just fired the flash but I still pump my ISO to 4000 to preserve the surrounding ambient.

Aiyo, why you guys so sensitive over such petty issue la. I'm just merely stating WB is off, flash is too harsh. That's just a plain comment. He shared his shots in the photography forum, we comment. Anything wrong with that unless someone taking it too hard? We are here to share knowledge, not to go emotional over a plain remark just because one couldn't take it. Cheers
