Kul | Mo0: No lah! Are you all using the same shutter speed?

lwliam: You pulled the exposure on the guy? Also, would be nice to have a shot of the ball hitting the bar haha.

The Wonder: Nice #2 and #4! Rare to see #4 from that position.

Love #7 and #8!

mastering89: Eh, cool optical viewfinder LOL.

noprob: Great shot! I like how it is cropped exactly.

zstan: Not quite getting the mood in #2.

lwliam: I wonder how he got it to roll and stop exactly there then. I like the picture-in-picture for #1!

Kul | Mo0: Don't worry lah. As long as the flash contacts are clean it will work.

Also, maybe the battery grip affects the resonance somewhat.

mastering89: Looks like you'll still be full when you read this message!

neo_lam: Nice (though a deeper DOF would be better.)

lwliam: Congratulations, now go shoot some full-frame!

zstan: Congratulations. No, you must insist on credit, since they are not paying you.

I've had enough of NST's unprofessionalism (they misquote me, or create a quote because my quote on a certain matter was "not interesting enough".) Sure the people who did that are no longer there, but it's still a terrible thing to do.

Meanwhile, about the newspaper that published your picture:

They could, and should, pay some photographer, or their staff photographer, to go there and shoot - they can claim mileage for travelling from office to press conference and back. They even get a credit line. They don't use their own camera, they take the office camera and pro lenses, which is covered under office insurance.

You don't even claim anything from them, you bring your own gear at your own risk of being elbowed by other photographers (and breaking/dropping gear), and you give it to them for free, and they don't even credit you!

The other problem with this is, you're denying their staff photographer a chance to do their job and get paid for it. If they can't get paid because you've done it for free, you can see in the future that nobody will ever get paid for photography.

If you've done a better job than their staff photographer has (why else is your picture there?), then you're worth more to the newspaper than the staff was!

kev da man: Don't let that happen to you! They do have a space for credit line so they should credit you.

tanjq87: Imagine you were assigned by the magazine to take pictures for them. They should bear the costs.

For example, if an event is going on at KLCC. How much is parking? How much is the travel cost from your office? How much do your batteries cost for your flash? Are you putting your equipment at risk?

I do understand that sometimes there is no space for a credit there and then (like the guy whose shot was used in Iron Man.)

noprob: Er, what is the point of the shot?

zstan: Don't let anybody, not even your dad, tell you otherwise. You shot it, you deserve the credit. At the very least they can say "picture courtesy of X company."

kev da man: As far as I know, the moment you create something, you own the copyright. Not sure where this article ties in:

fansoption: I like #1 but try to get a better composition. #3 now that's something! I like how you've got an angle that gets the petals and buds in focus.

junior5417: Focus forward, and back... you can sorta estimate where in-between will be in focus so you turn it back in between.

cjlai: OMG congratulations! Remember the Sigma HSM lenses can only be used with Sigma HSM teleconverters.

mastering89: Congratulations. However I guess I'd prefer the Gakkenflex for 135 format TLR photography because it has an actual focusing viewfinder. The icon shows you how to use zone focusing.

As the picture goes into darkness there will be noise in the shadows.

lwliam: The Gakkenflex and Blackbird.fly use 135 format film (35mm full-frame) which is a lot easier to find and process compared to the usual TLRs which use 120 format film (medium format). So it is cheaper if you stick to C-41 negative film.

d4rkholeang3l: Nice!

shootkk: I would not equate primes to being more likely to make images, but still I do see the value in primes.

clivengu: The A700 + Sony 35mm F1.4G has that classic Minolta color and bokeh. It has a very pleasant rendition. But the A850 + Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM is good too, but with a look that will please all the digital-age pixel-peepers. (I got the same look from the Sigma 30mm F1.4.) Depth of field on the A850 + 50mm will be shallower. Also, the 35mm F1.4G focuses much closer, 30cm, being a wide-angle design.

It is not a lens to be shooting landscapes wide open with, though (and you shouldn't be shooting landscapes wide open.) What you should be looking at, is what you intend to shoot with the lens - for example, I shoot low light and portraits. For that, the Minolta/Sony 35mm F1.4G is simply superb.

Well hey, try both! If you like butterscotch ice-cream, don't let people force you to buy chocolate ice-cream.

wingster: Wired, as it will work in the brightest of sunlight, and with the bracketing modes (notice that the Drive Remote mode is mutually exclusive.)

ieR: You can also desaturate the magenta channel in Hue/Saturation/Lightness. Many RAW programs also allow you to remove purple fringing.

clivengu: 50mm F1.4 on FF will not look like 35mm F1.4 on APS-C (FF will have shallower DOF.)

Sony Alphas are traditionally the lightest on the medium/high end - here's a simple comparison:

Sony Alpha 700 + battery = 768 grams
Canon EOS 7D + battery = 900 grams
Sony Alpha 850/900 + battery = 928 grams
Nikon D700 + battery = 1075 grams
Nikon D3s + battery = 1410 grams

Sony HVL-F42AM = 340 grams
4 AA NiMh batteries = 125 grams

So: A700 + battery + F42 + AAs = 1233 grams, a bit lighter than the D3s.

Notice that the Canon 7D is almost as heavy as the A850/A900!

Braynumb: I borrowed some gaffer's tape from my friend to stealth my A900. He was using a D700. Ted also covered up his D3.

achew: Nice that there's that detail in the distance!

ahpingko: That usually means that the A550 thinks the memory card is pirated.

wingster: Scary! Hey it works for #2.

Uzumaki NaruTo: Nice!

signither, congratulations anyway!

mastering89: Use Manual Exposure mode, adjust according to the meter, then recompose. biggrin.gif

Mikeshashimi: Read up on the Sunny F16 rule.

Mikeshashimi: That is exactly right.

shukrie: Wow, I like your black-and-white conversions too! Very rich.

cassplayer: Hello I didn't know it was you!

zstan: Barrel distortion is where the center of the image is a bit bloated compared to the sides.
