my machine crashed and i rebooted it. now my knoppix won't go into graphical mode. it'll only go into text mode... how do i switch back to graphical mode...?

try to enter this command

startx

still not working? then probably you experience the hardware failure.

Perhaps you can try startx or change through command line

# vi /etc/inittab

chg
id:3:initdefault:
to
id:5:initdefault:

only if you know what you're doing.

and what r u actually doing by changing id:3:initdefault to id:5:initdefault??

this is to change the default run level, runlevel 3 is text and 5 is graphical

may be we should check his /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
if he not done anytiing to his pc, how came his /etc/inittab change to runlevel 3

may b is /etc/X11/xorg.conf have change a little bit.

try to post the whole /etc/X11/xorg.conf and the error message when you issue command "startx" here , may be somebody will check for you.
