yup2...just bought mine at pc fair today as well..doesnt come with any cds...had to make own recovery cds...but if i dont make one?! i still can recover my windows to factory by using Lenovo OneKey Recovery key on the laptop rite?! correct me if im wrong..

Added on April 17, 2010, 10:41 pmand the D (LENOVO) partition is for recovery rite?! can i still use the partition for saving some files??!
*
yes u can format with the one key recovery even without cd. as for the D drive, better dont mess with it coz it stores the backup files for recovery. the d drive only consumed small portion of hdd space, why bother keep files there? btw, how much u bought from pc fair?

u can choose to format either with CD or the hidden partition. u need to burn by your own if u want to keep a recovery cd

reformat by using either cd or even the onekey recovery software will make it go back to factory settings will all those lenovo junks or can fully clean reformat??
btw..i bought it for rm3530...with free carrying bag...

factory setting comes with all those preloaded software as well. unless u clear ALL of them and re-create a backup image then that might be your "fully clean reformat"

again, dont flash or touch the current bios, leave it as it is

how about the touch key like volume and one click theatre without the software?

when first use the C: (windows) partition is about 400+GB right, let say i shrink it into 200GB and another 200GB(E:) to store files. and im going to reformat, will the system format the E: as well? how they know which is the target partition to install? and how to create partition during installation? must boot with CD?

Good question. 1st of all, your scenario won't apply because you only can have 3 primary partitions in your HDD, which your C:, OEM partition, and System Reserved already occupied those. If you want to create more than 3 partitions, you'll have to create an Extended partition where you can add a few more inside which in Y460's case, it's the D: and has 30+GB only.......  shakehead.gif ( trying my way to re-assign using linux)

I haven't really tried the OneKey recovery system so I can't confirm if it'll delete your E: or not, but most of the recovery system will target C: as it's the boot system. Let us know if you did it though nod.gif

actually i have C: (windows), D: (recovery) and E: (files) with me now. so i wonder if next time i format will the recovery system set back to like 400GB for C: and all my files in E: gone with the wind

Another Lenovo Y460 user reporting in. Have been using it for almost 2 weeks.

There's a bit of a catch to the OKR (One key recovery) system in that it will only work if you did not change the partition size of your boot drive (by default the C drive). If you do then the OKR is useless. You can delete all Lenovo pre-installed software and the OKR will still work. But if you recover your system this way then it will return the system to factory default together will all the junks in it.

A better way will be to install the OKR software and use it to backup the system in the current state (ie. after all those junks have been removed) and use the DVDs created to recover your system. Hope this helps  smile.gif

i resized, so how to reformat in future? boot with CD ?

btw, i disabled some of the startup item (those lenovo junks) and now the touch key like volume, one key threatre, power management not working anymore sweat.gif
even enabled back still not working

what is mutesync.exe? and audiodg.exe? (task manager)

i checked the lenovo support forum and they really said that.. if the volume size is amended, one key recovery will not work. let say in future the boot drive infected with virus and want to reformat, where the hell can we save important files? usually ppl store files in different partition so that can safely reformat the windows partition right.

My apologies for taking so long to reply,

As far as I have tested out you can reinstall windows without messing around with C Drive's size and OKR will still works. To make OKR work again if you've resize C Drive (assuming you've left the hidden partition as well as the D drive intact) then remove all the partitions you make on C and OKR should work again.

If all else fail, then you'll probably need to use another method of creating your system image for backup purposes.

If I'm not mistaken both mutesync.exe and audiodg.exe are used by the touch control buttons for the audio control on the laptop. Remove or disable them and the buttons will fail to function. Note that mutesync is only provided on the drivers in the D drive and cannot be downloaded from Lenovo's support page.

so it means OKR will only works if i don't create any new partition from C: ??

if created, need to merge them back to original size?

if i have few partitions and insist to use OKR what will happen? no option to install in C: only while leaving other new partitions untouched?
