Hi guys,

please help, i am in this situation my budget max is 3200 but if necessary it can go to 3600, and i am really considering buying this laptop because of its processor and graphic card. the thing is before i knew of this laptop i was considering Asus a42jr with i5 520, and hd 5470. and as u all know "i guess" its already out of stock, i went to the pc fair and they already changed the graphic card with outdated one, one guy told me better wait till next week, when the new stock comes in but he gave me less than 30% of it being included in the stock.

so if u compare the two definitely lenovo wins, but after reading ur comments regarding the heating problem i am discouraged.

Asus

advantages:

- price will not jump 3200 if its i5 520" if it comes any time soon i hope"
- warranty 2 years international " important since i am not a local"

disadvantages:

- lower spec compared to lenovo

i think the way i explained it, it seems i already know what i should get " lenovo" but i will appreciate it if u guys advice me

questions:

- how much can i get the lenovo for as i read the cheapest was 3510 rm .....what do u think?

- why not buy lenovo?

thx in advance smile.gif

you can always go for lower spec of y460 which is RM3299 RRP the difference is only processor ..which uses lower end i5 430
i got 3510 because i COD.. if you manage to COD i am sure u can get that price too
*
tyvm for info smile.gif, but i just bought it with i5 540 / 4g ram for 3599 including bag plus 8 gifts. that's the best price i could get in lowyat after doing the whole survey tour, u

can get it without the gifts for 3574 but in another shop.

also if anyone interested to buy the same model but with i5 430 including 4 g ram the best price you can get including the gifts is 3471 rm

( basic price 3299 + gifts) + 172 rm (2 g ram) ........ all together = 3471 rm,

with just 2 g ram you can get it for 3299 rm

good luck to anyone interested. by the way the shop is Jayacom information sdn.bhd (JCI) last floor.

to tell you the truth the difference between i5 430 and 540 does matter for me, plus its only 129 rm extra. in the long term it will make a difference tongue.gif

Gratz on your purchase smile.gif. Do let us know too if you're having the same problem when you operate it the 1st time with more heat than usual. I'll be posting some results this midnight if possible.
*
thx alot smile.gif, its true the first time i started it up like 5 mins and u can feel the heat, haven't tested the heat using speedfan yet. i am accustomed to heat by now, i

have another laptop 17 inch hp pavilion dv9315 that laptop is the worst laptop in terms of heating that i have encountered with, this model was recalled from market i think

before 1 year for the same issue " heat" , and they were offering a replacement of the laptop but unlucky me i didn't know about it. because of the heat i had to replace

the graphic card which is Geforce go 6150 128 mb, the processor was amd turion 64 x2 tl-52. and in order to replace the card from hp i had to pay around 700+ rm but i

did it in another shop for 300 rm ( that time didn't have warranty), that's why i was reluctant to buy lenovo when u guys mentioned the heat issue but i think there is no

comparison with hp.

with hp ----------------GPU will shoot up to 90 C,

Cpu to 75+ C seriously i could cook an egg on it from heat shocking.gif

another thing due to heat one of my ram slots isn't working rclxub.gif so you can see the laptop is in death stage, but the 17 inch lcd is something u got to love, really cool

when watching a movie.

TQ
*

hi guys i have this issue, since i removed the battery i am just using power outlet i configured the power for high performance and set brightness to 100% , i did the same for windows default power settings, but in a frequent basis say after 1 hour or so the screen will dim back and i will see the brightness has been altered ( in the windows default power settings)!

did any one notice that the screen will dim by itself sometimes.
how to fix that ?

hi guys i have a question i want to create another partition from C by shrinking c in Disk management tool and using that space to make another partion, my question will that effect the recovery key. i know this question was raised before and answered by jotaro 12 but he mentioned using Linux, i don't think u need Linux to do it since windows can.

The answer is no effect for the recovery key and no again for creating a new primary partition because you already have System Reserved, C: and Recovery partition which already fill up the max 3 primary partitions in 1 HDD. The only way would be re-assign the Extended D: Lenovo partition after you shrinked your C:. If you still don't understand... better start to learn more on file system for Vista/7.

thx for the feedback, and i am sorry if i offended you by any way, it wasn't my intention. because i sense a harsh tone in your reply " the part if you don't understand " which was not necessary.

again ty.

It should not affect the os recovery partition.
However, to play safe, clone your os recovery partition before you resize & create a new partition.

I'm sorry if you think I'm giving you a hard time. I'm just a straight forward guy where I'm not used to explain/elaborate why something can't be done. I've did what you wanna do. The other solution would be extend your system reserved partition to act as your data partition like a bro here stated before. smile.gif
*
No hard feelings smile.gif , and your right.

i had to try it out to be convinced. it turns out that after getting the extra space from shrinking you cant create a 4th partition, at the same time the D partition cant be extended using the space just created ( the option isn't available).

just needed to mention it for others who are curious as me.

In actual fact it will affect the function of the OKR (One Key Recovery). It is a known problem across multiple Lenovo notebooks that OKR will only function if the size of your system partition (drive C) remains intact.

If you resize it then OKR will not work and you'll have one useless button on your notebook. There's a whole topic on OKR and partitions on the official Lenovo forums if you're interested to read more about it.

thx for the feedback, will check it out. but i am really surprised how come lenovo doesn't create an extra partition with good space for storage from the beginning,

since it becomes a real problem for the buyer rclxub.gif .

u mean skin cover, bought one but because it was my first time doh.gif , it wasn't successful so i removed it due to some air bubbles inside it wasn't attractive. besides i already have a cleaning kit. and it looks more beautiful without the skin.

so decided to leave it as it is.

hi guys, i want to ask about the battery life?. so far after configuring the battery to energy saver it seems the battery cant last more than 3 hours sad.gif (i am still testing it), and that's with normal use just using internet.
at the beginning it will state that the battery will last more than 4 hours.

any of you had it last longer that?

internet through out the whole period ( youtube, facebook ,....) ........is that normal or should i be worried?

ATI didn't announce any automatic switching graphics between apps/games atm so far. They did mention they'll have monthly update for mobile graphics which is a good news(just not sure how true that is hehe, plus some OEMs don't allow ATI to interfere the OEMs' customized hardware driver bcoz of various concerns like battery life, interaction between other hardware, heating issues etc). Same goes to nVidia. I do think the M11x will go into that route eventually, just not sure when will that be...  hmm.gif Better get N61 rather than N82 unless you need a 14 inch or below lappy.

Sounds reasonable to me.
*
thx, i tried googling it, i mean battery life period, and i couldn't find anyone actually testing it.

Most 32bit programs are able to install onto a 64bit system under the program files(x86) folder. Most of the recent 32bit programs do run fine under Win 7 64bit, i.e. Firefox, VLC player or recent games like SF4, BFBC2, Metro 2033, Assassin Creed 2 etc. Some programs might not work well with 64bit if they don't update/upgrade their versions to cope with. I would suggest you to install your software just to see if it does work like usual.  nod.gif

The term browsing internet under the battery consumption theory is strictly browse web with no interactive add-ons i.e. youtube, webpage with flash ads etc which it'll draw the battery life too. I think to achieve browsing "normal" websites near 4 hours battery life would be turn on Super Energy Saver, close all interactive buttons and wifi/bluetooth on laptop, no other apps running besides folder browsing, dim the screen brightness, 60-70 processes running only, turn off mouse pad if possible lol... But that will suck up your fun on just normal surf w/o thinking about battery life  tongue.gif
*
i agree but i guess 4 hours is too much to ask maybe without internet its possible, but the super energey saver mode really sucks, especially the screen brightness. cant work with that.

hi, reading the part on OC i guess it wont void the warranty.

1) i just want to confirm it?
2) is any one planning to OC his GPU to higher frequencies than 5730 ( > 650/800 frequency) ?
3) i haven't OC'd a GPU before but do you think its recommend at least on 5730 frequency?
4) last question how about CPU overclocking i am sure this will void the warranty, but i would like to know if anyone did it on other type of laptop and was it effective?

Thx in advance

thx guys, by the way regarding OC i read in other forums that doing it will void the warranty if lets say something happened to the laptop and they find that u OC'd it.
