@rubrubrub
Max out would be ~4 hrs w/ intel GMA and lowest brightness w/ word processing + normal web surfing(no youtube/flash). That's how LYP shops do, especially those small shops. If you really can't bargain/lower the price, it's better you go check at DM/other places/LYN sellers. @gstoh The EA16 is a nice laptop, too bad you need to update graphic drivers from Sony as well, not like us or Acer etc, but we do get kick on the switchable drivers part also |

QUOTE(gstoh @ May 29 2010, 10:58 PM) @ jotaro12 Sounds like you've played with 1 before i know, but i was wondering how can EA16 be so cold even running street figher 4 bench on a table without notebook cooler ?! even the heat from exhaust is also not very hot while running sf4 bench I would assume Sony uses better material/heat design hence better air circulation on GPU+CPU. It's a bit rare to find a thorough review on EA16(maybe didn't find hard enough...) and I can't find tear down shots like what 4820TG and Y460 has so can't figure out how EA16's heat arrangement look like |

Found out bro gstoh's trick on the new Splinter Cell game won't work nice. I will only get smooth gaming if I switch my CPU to auto rather than underclock. Then I knew the game needed a minimum 2.0Ghz C2D, which is why I felt a bit weird when I played the 1st few times.
Added on June 3, 2010, 12:24 pmAnother mSATA option for us SanDisk P4 SSD SanDisk unveiled new SSDs in Computex '10 ETA would be Q3 2010 NOTE: After read through SanDisk brochure, now I know it's called a mSATA drive with mini PCIe connector. IIRC, it's like extend your screen to another video output such as projector or LCD screen so you can multi-task, which the splitscreen does it with only our main screen. Up to 4 screens if I'm not wrong, but I prefer Linux's way to emulate the same effect.

Comparing few difference on both Y460 & Y560 although they're on same price point
Lenovo Ideapad Y460/560 ▪ Intel® Core™ i7-620M Processor/i7-720QM Processor ▪ Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium ▪ Intel® HM55 Express Chipset ▪ 8GB DDR3 SDRAM (After free upgrade)/6GB DDR3 SDRAM ▪ 32GB SSD & 640GB SATA HDD/500GB 7200RPM SATA HDD ▪ DVD Super Multi Double Layer Drive (DVD-RW)/Blu-Ray Combo Drive ▪ ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650 1GB with Switchable Graphics/ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5730 1GB ▪ 14" WXGA LED Display 1366*768/15" LED 1366*768 HD pixel resolution ▪ 6-cell Li-ion Battery ▪ 1-year Warranty* Both around 49xx so really depends on how you choose... I'm wondering what price will it be if the 8GB DDR3 is not free Added on June 10, 2010, 12:48 pm@Mie131085 Mostly won't work unless it's a XP OS. If you have burned the recovery disc, better use that. This post has been edited by jotaro12: Jun 10 2010, 12:48 PM |

Of course no lol bcoz it's the M'sia version. Then again, you have a lot of choices if you got the budget of 5k and Sager is one of them w/ Mobility 5870.

You can try to use the recovery disc to reinstall your OS. After finish installing, you can use partition software like EASUS to get the HDD space you need. Dual boot system is useful if you use linux/windows or Mac/windows, it's rather pointless to dual boot XP/7 as you can use XP mode/VMware to do it.

The recovery disc is more reliable in a sense you don't need to care about your current partition's space/location is different than the original partition arrangement. It only does affect if you're doing the recovery using recovery partition(For Lenovo only I guess).

QUOTE(archinkent @ Jun 10 2010, 06:05 PM) just got the y460. why is the right palmrest warmer than the rest of the laptop? isnt the cpu and gpu at the top left? also there some sort of whistling sound under the palmrest. That's where your wireless card situated so it'll be warm if you do turn on your wireless. |

You knew the answer in the 1st place. If you gonna go mainly switchable graphics on Y460, it's not suggested to install the new 10.5. It won't allow you to download the driver if it detects you're on switchable. If you want to use discrete ATI only, then it's ok to update.

GTA4 Is rather CPU intensive game + you can't set to all high settings + make sure you didn't turn on AA. I'll get the game when I have some free time to let you guys know which settings suits Y460. Btw, it might related to the GC drivers too.

QUOTE(Mie131085 @ Jun 18 2010, 10:03 AM) Bear in mind if this happen, in future you'll have to use this step every time you re-format your OS. Windows call center will give you a code to enter which is a bunch of numeric keys to enter just to activate your windows.NOTE: Please don't use CAPS when asking for help/questions, bold the words are much more appreciated. Added on June 18, 2010, 12:19 pmMomentus XT just on sale recently in US, we don't know when will it arrive to M'sia. Performance wise SSD still wins a huge leap. HHD only performs better(several tests) or on par w/ Velociraptor. It's a nice upgrade for price:performance users but if you need huge boost, SSD is still on the top. The Wifi/BT switch is just next to the Graphic switch button. Use it to turn off your BT/Wifi. You only can do it manually if you want either one of them to turn on.
