I don't really understand what Damage Roulette does. Wider range of damage? Does that mean the damage for the guns like the Laser Rifle would be, say, 2 to 9 rather than just 4 to 6?

Yeah, sometime my plasma sniper hit enemy for only 1 damage and sometime 10.

Darn, 18th game, that's a lot of playtime. Also, anyone can recommend me a good overhaul mod(aside from Warspace since many ppl said it's for baby) for my future playthrough?

Whats the point of playing these mods when the expansion is coming out in 2 weeks? Its gonna break the mod.
*
True only if the player buys the expansion instantly.

@Skidd Chung
The readme(included in the DL) will tell you how to install. I can vouch for long war being a tough mod, I tried 5 Ironman Impossible(with bunch of Second Wave activated), not surviving any of them so far. doh.gif

Edit: If you don't like Long War Mod, I think there's one or two other overhaul mods you can consider.

No, most likely there will be a patch for EU even if you are not planning to buy EW. That will break the compatibility of the mod and even the mod's page has a warning:
*
The mod page did ask the users to turn off automatic updates. The mod should be okay as long as the latest patch isn't installed.

Yes, but usually, Firaxis will be providing some bug fixes to the older version in expansion patches. It is up to you then and I dont think its worth forgoing a patch for this mod. Its not very good to be honest.

I actually liked the mod myself, much tougher than the original, and minor bugs don't bother me too much(Shouldn't the original be pretty stable since it's been out for a long time?). Of course, to each his own.

Okay, this mission looks good.
XCOM is still a fairly new game where the best mods do not appear until later down the line. EW will expose more under the hood coding so that modders can use which can be used to improve mods.

EU on its own is fairly good, and Long War did not fix some of the biggest issue with the core game like you decide which class your soldier to take, enemies appearing out of thin air or how "rushed" strategic mode with its satellite. In turn, Long War decided to introduce more classes to make things even more complicated. I am not really a huge fan of the classes in EU but at least Firaxis manage to strike a nice balance in EU and EW with enough variety between classes. Not reshuffling existing classes into even more classes.

There are some nice changes but i think i'll wait for the modding scene to mature first before jumping into mods.

EU on its own is a little bit too easy to me. Of course, I haven't tried impossible but I did well in ironman classic and THEN I tried Long War in ironman classic and it's so much tougher. I enjoy the difficulty even though I keep restarting games.

The randomized classes are actually in my courtyard as I love roulette - I have most of the second wave options open to add further randomization - and it adds to the challenge as I am forced to consider taking more fresh recruits into battle just in hope that I can get some of the classes I have least. Of course, I can understand players want to assign classes to their soldier, no problem with it, I just happen to like the current method.

Enemies out of thin air...yeah, not much to change about that. I am used to it though after playing a fair share of XCOM so I am extra careful when advancing, constantly overwatch so I can shoot them if they get into my vision out of nowhere. I just consider it to be aliens "patrolling" or lured by sound so they came to the human.

Not sure what you meant by rushed strategic mode, as in rush satellite or die?

I am fine with LW's classes mainly because I got bored with original XCOM and having 8 classes with different skill order seems fresh to me(although technically it is not fresh). I do agree it doesn't add anything new.

LW has improved UFO hunting(which I don't get why EU wants to cut it from the base game), more items, and increased difficulty[alien will improve and so on], all in all good for me.

And oh, just to reply your other post to me, I like the slowed pace. I play marathon mode for original EU anyway, I simply love the slowed pace. I would take marathon with LW but I read that marathon makes the game much easier in a way so I didn't do so.

EU is hard to mod so it's good that EW is open things up, better mod will come soon enough. And just saying, I am not hard-selling LW, more like giving my opinion on why I liked it in comparison to your disagreement.

What is there to gain from MP? There is no competitive scene or anything. And it is so limited compared to the experience in SP.

No offence, if you are thinking of playing XCOM as a MP game, i doubt you'll gonna enjoy it much. You made it as if fighting against aliens all day is boring. I like how EW improved the SP pacing where it is much more enjoyable to play now than EU.

SP and MP doesnt really share the same maps as MP maps are modified from SP while most SP maps are fairly simple to memorise.

There's ranking in XCOM and I can see its fun in MP despite not playing the MP(because I have no friend and I am not interested in playing with strangers), I can see a lot of different approaches and strategies as compared to the AI.

I will agree on your point if it's about FPS like Battlefield or CoD where it's definitely more fun with other players and most of the features are there for the MP but strategy game usually are pretty versatile, capable of doing well in both SP and MP albeit having most of the features on the SP part. Seeker seems to be an alien that is very good in MP more than SP, mostly because I doubt the AI can have the perfect timing and execution to use its ability well compared to a human player.
