To each their own taste, i'd say, i joined a competitive XCOM MP community, we always have discussion on tactics and share videos on tips and tricks in MP, if you check the MP rankings we're among the top ranked players. Just wanted to say, there's another way of playing XCOM.

I know for a fact that the devs wanted to focus on SP but why put MP as a feature if you're not gonna maintain it. wasting our money on extra feature.
*
Firaxis put MP into XCOM because 2K wanted it, if not, they said they would do a better SP game than what we have now.

I just hope you people wont ruin the future installations of the series. Competitive community always put balance over fun and thats what ruined a lot of RTS.

There is a reason why i like Firaxis, they emphasise on developing a good single player with emergent story and gameplay. Not turning everything into some shitty multiplayer game like other publishers.

Total dissapointment with the x-com re-release.

2 better Xcom Turn-Base RPG Alternative

1) Tactics Orge : Let Us Cling Us Together ( 5x better )
2) Front Mission 5
3) Disgea Series

Both can play on PC now. (even low spec, i play on HD4000)

XCOM is not a turned based RPG. It is a turned based strategy game. The reboot is quite good despite there are some glaring flaws just like the original. Firaxis will never redo an old game with a new coat as they prefer to change 1-2 core mechanics to make the game different. The upcoming Civilization Beyond Earth will probably be a completely different game so expecting it to be Alpha Centuri with better graphics is pretty much guaranteed disappointment.

There is Xenonaunts for those who want a more refined version of X-COM. Possibly Massive Chalice.

At this day and age with increasing development cost and other issues, expecting a decades old classic remake to be exactly the game is absurd. As long as the core game is good, I think I am more than happy.

You havnt play enough games.

It only took 5 hours for me to give up X-Com.
I wasted USD50 on this piece of...
Why it is flawed?

1) No depth
- I played too many Turn-Based Strategy, X-COM other than better graphic, its nothing else..

When you try games like Front Mission 5 (2005), Tactics Orge(2009)
The Job System, Item Customization, Char Skill Development, Party Customization, even non-linear story line...

It is FAR too advance compared to X-COM.

Highly Recommended you go try Front Mission 5, Tactic Orge

Nah, you have ridiculous expectations in games. First Age of Wonders 3 isnt good for you, then now, XCOM isnt good for you. XCOM is not perfect in any way but for a reboot of a classic game, I think Firaxis did a decent job at it. The probably still need another expansion if not 2 to full expand the game.

Considering that TBS was a dead franchise, I aint gonna expect much from the developers.

I think you prefer Japanese games more than Western TBS. I aint a fan of Japanese developers because the way they treat PC in general and their business model.

Try Xenonaunts if you want something deeper.

Cheese, honestly. I like the way you reply and comment.
But i dont think that is ridiculous expectation in games.
Strategy games always come with deep gameplay, and lots of system features.

By the way. Xenonauts, after read your reply.

2 youtube video. I made the purchase from GoG.
Thanks for the good recommendation.

No worries, I have been itching to get it too.

I like XCOM but it fell short in certain aspects which made me interested in Xenonaunts. It is sad that Firaxis did not want to release another expansion to expand the lackluster end game.

I'll just wait for a sale to pick this up. Heard so many good things about it. Do post feedback once you dig in a dozen of so hours.

Maybe you can start a new threat for Xenonauts

i will post my review shortly. It should be what a hardcore game looked like

I think XCOM thread should be fine. Considering XCOM is very much dead now.

Xenonaunts is designed as a spiritual successor to XCOM so I dont see why we need another thread.

I think that would take longer than it going on sale below USD10.

Doubt so, indie games prices tend to drop fairly quickly.

I am not going to play it now anyway, so i can wait.

Just saw this dedicated thread, I'm stuck at this mission: Portent in classic mode. Gosh, is this a very tough mission!!

Same as this:
*
Portent is actually quite difficult. You need to be either very lucky or memorise the sequence of the enemies appearing.

One of the weakness of these story based maps are, the enemy appearance is scripted so if you had killed all the enemies on screen, you can camp there as long as you like before more spawn. You can use those down time to reload and overwatch while someone scouts in front.

Still, nothing beats that special one off mission with some really well implemented horror elements.

I still want another XCOM expansion. Firaxis please? The last quarter of the game still sucks.

Is there a multiplayer co-op in EW?
Wonder if I could skip Portent? I'm not prepared at all for this mission, no carapace armor, lacking higher level soldiers, etc.
*
No multiplayer coop. This is a single player game for the most part with a poor tacked on multiplayer.

You can skip Portent by failing or you ignore Council's plead for the mission. However, this is not a one off mission as it leads to a few missions as you progress through.

Ahh thanks!

Losing a few countries alrwsdy, I think I'll have to restart again... As I didn't really plan my buildings properly, launching satellites, uplinks and I don't have enough engineers all the time! So yeah, probably gonna lose more countries soon..

Btw as for research project, which should I prioritise? I straight away went for carapace armor lol. What about that stun gun to capture alien's alive? What does that lead to actually?
*
You are bound to lose some countries. You wont be able to keep all of them

As for research, I think it is better to leave it up to you. More fun to be honest as you need to live with your mistakes.
