Hi guys and all flashlight sifus, I need a recommendation for a flashlight. My requirements are a either a 2xCR123 or single 18650 cell light.

My main requirement is throw, throw,throw! It's for use in my boating hobby.

I've been researching on a Tiablo A9, but have found out that the new R5 pills are inferior to the older q5s in terms of outright throw. The Deree DBS with the R2 is still available locally by gadgethighway, but the the price of the light with the aspherical head is out of my price range. And lastly the luma power D-mini VX with the teleforce head, but again, it's unavailable to purchase with the r2 pills anymore. It's all the R5s and they're no longer good throwers.


So guys, if you can point me in the right direction for a good throwing light for my requirements. Oh btw, I very much prefer to purchase only with local stores and would prefer lights that are factory options, not modded ones. My budget is around 350 for the light and maybe an additional 100 for a throwing head for models with such options.

Sorry mate, i asked for recommendations based on my requirements and needs for the job the light is meant to do, not one based on my maxed permitted budget. Nice try though

Added on October 1, 2010, 12:47 amFor my current usage distances, I'd say around 180 - 225 metres. I know there's some very pricey lights out there, but I'd much prefer them in a rather compact size, with lengths no more than 8 - 9 inches and not one gigantic bulbous head. It'll be inconvenient to lug around.

Well thank u guys for all ur recommendations. I've snagged a deal on a used DBS (R2) plus the aspherical head for RM310. Read some reviews on CPF, and one seems to state a decent throw and illumination of up to 900ft! Well, maybe it's a little far fetched, but I'll be sure to test it out at sea when i go on my trip next weekend. All things considered I'm not looking for a particularly large area of illumination.

Managed to try out a A9 with the collimator head as well from a local flashlight enthusiast in penang. I'd say decent up to 120 metres. Really good illumination of the targeted area.I've set a limit on the size of the light, therefore I know choices are pretty much limited.
