i have a combination of normal human lumens, high lumens and for throw.

for walk around 50-200 is what i prefer...so i can have the extra light when needed.
of cos in pitch black, 10 is way more than enough.

then i have a few 900-1000 ones...1 of them is my bedside light...a nitecore EA11...cos it has a red light which i can use at night if needed.

anyway, my current bunch of keychain lights that i can find...
the i1r looks almost new...cos i got no mood to put it on my keychain cos it sux so bad tongue.gif
while the tip cri basically i just hang it on keychain hanger at home to use in case of blackouts....
now slowly giving the tini its own wear and tear...

Hello, may I ask where did you get your Nitecore TIP CRI? Seems like Gadgetworld does not carry them. Not quite sure which other sellers to look for this CRI version.

from gadgetworld... maybe u can ask them to try order one again?
cos usually i see they don't really restock older models.

I see. Well, they say won't replenish due to low demand. Bummer. Guess I have to look elsewhere or another light. Anyhow, thanks for sharing smile.gif

Hello guys. Need some recommendations for a Floody neutral white headlamp with around 1000 lumen max (I don't mind higher lumens though).

Did some research for the past few weeks, originally wanted to go for Nitecore HC30w, but saw some pic of beamshots that it's slightly throwy in my opinion. Did more digging and most recommend Zebralight for floody headlamps, but as far as I know there's no local supplier and that they seem to be quite pricy.

Then someone recommended Eagletac / Sportac DH10LC2, which currently is the best choice for me. But still would like to have more recommendations & options before making a decision. Pls share your recommendations. Thank you smile.gif

Is local supplier a must in your needs? Because I know a particular light that fits your floody needs
Skilhunt H03F

Uses a classic XM-L2 LED but there's an option of neutral white and a flip cover for both flood and throw if ever needed.
Pretty famous headlamp in the blf forum. And the price should save you some bucks for spare accesories if needed.
Zebralight is a tad pricy in my range haha.

Can get it at banggood. There are more headlamp options from Skilhunt if you don't like the flip diffuser

This is a very Interesting suggestion! Thank you! The price range I think is about the same as the Eagletac that I was eyeing, but this offers more features.

Having a local supplier has the advantage that I can probably go and test the product out before buying. Especially to see the beam which I pay particular attention to. Of course, plus the usually risk of ordering stuff overseas and warranty all those stuff.

Will try to look around for more options and also to think this carefully. Many thanks smile.gif

Guys, on this flood light topic, may I have some recommendations on flood flashlight?

I am searching for one to use as EDC BUT I want something like the size of Fenix TK20R.

I was looking at this: Klarus Mi1C Ti Titanium CREE XP-L HI LED 600L Rechargeable Flashlight    then only I realized that LED flashlight also can have flood beam instead of throw beam.. Newbee.    smile.gif

I was checking out in Nitecore website but the best they have is only TIP2.

Any advise where to bring it in also?
*
I am also a new to this but maybe you can check out Jaxman E2L with 3 LED in front. The beam seems flood-ish which might fit your needs (Available at Aliexpress I think).

Another idea is just getting a diffuser for your throw light, but that might or might not fit your needs considering you need to carry another item.

Jaxman E2L is a bit premium for what it offers. Maybe if you really need the hi CRI LEDs then go with Jaxman E2L. It also has the frosted TIR too.
But I personally find the Manker E14 or the Astrolux S41 would be a better price for the performance (Hi drain batteries only!)
Both lights comes with Nichia hi CRI option too

If you don't mind a classic technology with modern LEDs, KDLitker E6 with a SST20 triple P60 module would fit MyWifeCar needs for the fenix form factor
KDLitker E6 host
P60 triple module

Lesser power compared to the manker or astrolux but a bigger body is definitely a more comfy grip

Do note that it has no tactical forward switch for momentary on so choose wisely.

Thanks for sharing smile.gif I also just recently discovered flashlight mods, especially the Convoy S2+. All the parts and options, oh my, like opening a can of poison.

Just to ask for opinions, I am actually trying finding a torch that is similar to 3M's Sun Gun (with uses a solux bulb instead of LED), but I don't want to DIY that Coz I prefer LED lights (much cooler looking tongue.gif). So that means Floody light with color temperature of 4700k (so probably is neutral white) with around 1000 lumens max, high CRI is a great bonus. Any lights to recommend please? smile.gif

In my research I tried to search based on color temp, but most websites / brand do not give exact specs for color temp (kelvin), except for websites like Fasttech, Aliexpress, banggood, etc, which surprisingly they usually give a range for color temp for lights they sell (example : 4000k ~ 4500k). Can I trust the spec they give? Tried looking at CREE's datasheet but too technical for me to understand (I am still very new to this, only started like 1 month ago. Haha).

Many thanks to RookieDaddy & power911 for replying and sharing smile.gif

Just to share, my use case is not actually colour reproduction (tho they are nice to have), it's actually for paint inspection for auto detailers (different from painters), in other words, for checking car paint for scratches, micro-marring, etc.

I mentioned the sun gun because a lot of detailers DIY their own sun gun as they found it good for paint inspection, hence I try to find 4700k LED light because they say that's what is used in the sun gun. Some other lights that detailers use are Scangrip lights, and some penlight by Rupes (polishing machine brand). So basically I try to find out their specs and look for torches with similar specs.

My research indicates I will probably need different temperature lights (probably ranging from cool white to neutral white) for darker or light colour cars, and some even suggest different colour temperature are better at spotting different scratches (deep or shallow scratches). I have yet to determine whether throwy or floody beams are suitable for my task but I presume floody are better because throw lights will probably be too harsh on the eyes (due to reflection of beam on the paint).

RookieDaddy, the XTAR D08 you mentioned is quite an interesting torch, amazed at how floody it is.

power911, I don't actually prefer a hairdryer styles light. I much more prefer EDC styled pockable lights and those 90 degrees headlamps. Thanks for sharing the guide, it is very useful.

I did thought about getting Convoy S2+ because of how customisable they are. Just pick the LED with the colour temp I want, then I can customise the optics and lens to fit my needs.

Thou I must say that I am still tempted to get the Skilhunt H03F you recommended as an EDC light.. tongue.gif a lot of features for the price.

abit of an unusual recommendation here... but since that is ur requirements... how about those video led lights?
some have variable temperature control from 3000-5500 etc...
it's probably similar to the larger ones that u see in car workshops mounted on tripods etc... just that the video leds are of cos much smaller and portable.
*
A very interesting recommendation indeed. Never thought about this before, definately not common in the detailing world. I can see how useful this can be for detailing but of course more research is needed. Thank you for the recommendation smile.gif

Spent sometime thinking to get either Sportac DH10LC2 or Skilhunt H03F, In the end I went ahead and ordered a Skilhunt due to it's versatility and having more feature for lower price. Some sites point out colour temp is around 4000k ~ 5000k range which is what I am looking for. Just a bit worried about the diffuser beam which some say is a bit donut shaped, but then again I maybe am overthinking it.

I think I spent too much time & energy trying to look for the perfect light for my needs that I am somewhat exhausted mentally eventhough I must say it's addictive. Realised instead of trying to find the perfect light now, maybe this is more of a trial & error kind of journey to find the suitable lights. So I am just gonna get the Skilhunt and see how it goes for there.

Again thank you all for your help smile.gif Maybe I can share some pics of the Skilhunt once it arrives.

Bro, one light ain't enough.
I am using Fotodiox Pro LED-312DS. Good video light with variable temperature (And an LCD screen to accurately calibrate tint and brightness to your needs)
A bit pricy as it is for video but I can say the small sony rechargeable battery can last you half a day on full brightness. Buy bigger f mount batteries I think you can use till tomorrow
*
Yup, definately 1 is not enough, but gonna take it slow and just get 1 Skilhunt H03F for now to see how it performs for my specific use case (and also use as EDC light). My plan is probably to get a bunch Convoy S2+ in the future with different colour temp and also customise the optic & lens for my needs.

Thanks for the suggestion on the video LED lights. Sometimes I really wish I can go yumcha with you seniors at night and borrow different torchlight to shine on cars and see how they perform. Haha tongue.gif

My Skilhunt H03F finally arrived. Interesting that the reflector is light orange peel instead of smooth reflector. Thinking to do the shorty mod tongue.gif

Hey guys, just to share an interesting headlight I found today : YLP Panda. A Russian made light that is not widely available AFAIK.

While I feel it is somewhat similar to some of Nitecore's headlights, but this YLP's lumen is much higher should users need it.

Did you find any reviews from the normal flashlights forum (budgetlight, candlepower, etc..)?  hmm.gif

Yup. A quick Google shows some reviews here, here and here. YouTube reviews are all in Russian / Slavic language.

Are you planning to buy?

So far not planning to buy. Haha. Already have my Skilhunt headlight. These YLP are very interesting but so far L shaped headlights such as Skilhunt fit my needs more for now tongue.gif

the fact that hi-CRI variant come standard with Samsung LH351D leds piqued my interest alot blink.gif

Because I am still very much a newbie, just started to realise there are other high CRI emitters other than Nichia LEDs such as this Samsung and some Luminus SST tongue.gif still have much to discover.

easy
Brightness wise
Samsung LH351D>SST-20>Nichia 219c

but when it comes to color then it is the other way round.

Can't beat Nichia when it comes to good colors.
The SST-20 is a sensitive die that change color depending on the amp given so it's inconsistent.

But SST20 is great for throw light as it is the tiniest chip you can get while the LH351D is the fattest flood LED
*
Ahh.. This makes things much clearer. Thanks smile.gif
Guess I'll probably still stick with Nichia, since that's it does what high CRI lights does best : colour rendering (even if it sacrifice some brightness). Though I must say that I don't see much lights using the Samsung LED. Hmm..

Hello guys, yesterday I just discovered the existence of Convoy S8. Seems mostly same as S2+ but with crenelated bezel and slightly beefier fins.

Tried to search for reviews of it but couldn't find any, and YouTube videos of it are again mostly on Slavic languages.

Wondering if any of you guys own/use one before? How does it compare with S2+? smile.gif

Hello guys. Just thought to share a new light I just bought : Nicron B22.

It's a zoomie penlight. 120 lumens. No modes or anything, just on and off. Spec says CRI is 95 but did not specify LED model.

It's surprisingly sturdy and feels good in the hand for it's relatively affordable price of around RM4X. But I must say I am not used to 120 lumens which is not very bright even when zoomed in (then again I am used to higher lumen lights). In a sense it's an inspection light and perhaps only bright enough for inspecting things up close.

The lens is convex so the beam pattern is well spread out, which is the reason why I bought this light to try out. Turns out paint inspection lighting have very different requirements compared to normal lighting usage.

Oh my, I've left this hobby quite some time ago but am still interested from time to time.
Can anyone recommend a good AA flashlight as well as a headlamp (with a 90 degree angle like the zebralight)?
Been out of the game too long.

Are the Chinese lights getting better? Just saw in the last page about Sofirn.
Anything else I should look out for?
*
I don't really follow the updates too closely but keep an eye out from time to time, but regrading 18650 headlamps I would recommend you have a look at Sofirn SP40 and Skilhunt H03 or H04 series (difference is older and newer gen of the same light).

Sofirn has the added advantage of it being cheaper and offering you a shorty tube right out of the box.
