Hi guys,

my car installment has finally settled and i am thinking of getting a bike next.

now, budget is below 20k, but i wouldnt mind to top it to 30k if i find something which perfectly suits me.

i perfer smtg like:
- brand new sportsbike or naked/streetbike. (not a chopper/cruiser/tourer fan here.)
- 250 to 650cc
- 4 stroke
- as an alternative daily commute (car is still my main), 30mins city ride to work.
- occasional weekend "getaway" ride
- strictly non European machine.

I have actually shortlisted a few bikes, but.....

1. Kawasaki ninja 250R - RM23K (fuel injection '10 model)
Pro:
- good beginner bike
- decent handling
- resell value
Con:
- kindda small for a 6' man like myself, not comfy for long legs. handle bar almost knocked my knee when making sharp turns.
- pricey for a 250cc.
- skinny and similar looking as the smaller 150cc NSR, TZM and super KIPS 150  hmm.gif

QUOTE
user posted image
2. Kawasaki ER6N - RM34K
Pro:
- one of the cheapest 650cc
- badass & muscular looking
Con:
- seriously beyond my budget
- no windscreen, fighting the wind at >120km/h will put much load on both arms unless sticking the chin on the tank. might not suitable for weekend cruising.
- poor ergonomics for 6 footer. crampy for long legs

QUOTE

3. Honda VTR250 2010 - Price TBA
Pro:
- V-twin
- great ergonomics
- quality built (its a honda rolleyes.gif )
- italian style like a baby ducati monster
- price tag fits my pocket (in thai, VTR is 5000baht cheaper than kawa 250R)
Con:
- yet to be launched, will it ever reach Msia?  wink.gif
- 3hp less then kawa 250R ( VTR 29hp, 250R 32hp). it may sound insignificant, but thats 10%hp less, do the math!
- missing 6th gear
- could be expensive if CBU (Kawa 250R is rm21k because its CKD, if this VTR isnt CKD.... doh.gif
(until today there is still no news about this bike, i guess we should forget about the VTR)

4. Honda CBR250 2011 - Price TBA (Est RM20k+)
Pro:
- Honda = built quality, reliable & durable, plenty of spareparts icon_rolleyes.gif
- ABS (optional)

Con:
- single cylinder OMG doh.gif  this one is killing me.
- CBU from thai unless Boon Siew localize it
- only 13L tank (ninja has 17.4L)

there are other bikes that i have looked into like the Naza blade 250 and 650 but none have really draw my attention yet.

so sifus & gurus, please give me some suggestions and recommendations on what do u think that might suits me.

i want a bike that looks good, sounds right, feels fun.
looking forward to join you guys for convoy, soon enough i hope! thumbup.gif

oh come on, the er6f is 40K+ beast, and its a supersport.
i dont need a fast bike. speed is my least concern as i have mentioned that the bike is just for me to get to work zapping through urban traffic.

and thx for the continental or used bike recommendations, i prefer brand new jap or CKD ones. hassle free, cheaper to maintain and wide range of aftermarket parts.

Wah the VTR. I also want it sad.gif
I love nakeds.
*
yup. sexy it is.

im praying that this baby is going to CKD and available in the market by 3rd or 4th quarter this year. but i dont have high hopes coz 250cc have a tiny market in malaysia. (kawa 250R and blade 250 are the only 2 choices we have now)

150cc is rm8k-10k. 10k/150= rm67 per CC
250cc is rm20k. 20k/250=rm80 per CC
400cc is...(where are the 400s in msia?)
650cc is 35-45k+. 40k/650=rm61 per CC

250 is vastly overpriced, not to mention if CBU cry.gif

KSR 110? it may be small, but looks very nice. only 7k
*
hah, i have nvr thought of it.
7k is pretty easy going but it looks more like a toy then a real bike. is it capable to bring me to genting on any weekend joy ride? i doubt so shakehead.gif

@kapalterbang 737
im glad that u share your biking experience with us. the infos are sincere & will definitely help me in choosing the right bike. notworthy.gif

@agent717
pls dont get me wrong, ksr is a decent machine, but it doesnt fit my case.
eg. ksr, c70, hayabusa or V-max all can travel from point A to point B without a prob, in fact there are thousands of bikes out there that can do the same, but im looking for the right bike, which can only be just one.

QUOTE(enjoice @ Apr 11 2010, 05:04 AM)
if u like that kind of sound on the 250 try get er6n sounds more powerful and faster than 250r.

honestly if i have no choice i wud rather choose er6n or klx150, dtracker 250 over ninjz 250r, they sounds better than 250 ninja. but i wud preffer inline 4 cylinder sound like cbrf4i
or you can opt for kawasaki dtracker 250 (supermoto), with extra cash if u want to, try mod it with accessories and tune the bike better.

supermoto front fender, rear fender and seats. high handle bar. etc etc

*
hmm... i think many of you are actually recommending bikes that u favoured laugh.gif j/k
i wouldnt buy a bike based on the 'sound'. and words like 'powerful' or 'faster' dont work on me, im not a young chap that fancies flashy bike. i need a practical bike (not kapchai) as a daily commuter.
L4 for 20k? brand new? be my guest yawn.gif

well just finished reading the blog, interest yet convincing.
i was bias against motard but it does proved me wrong.

but the tank is small 7.5L for just 100km meaning it could run out of gas in just an hour ride on highway doing 100km/h! thats not gonna help on my weekend 'makan angin' trip :/

QUOTE(junbecks @ Apr 12 2010, 11:16 AM)
go with the Er6n (yes I know its over your budget, but in the long run, you'll be happy you took the 650.

extremely reasonably priced for a big motorbike in Malaysia compared to its "luxury" brethren.

I dont think you plan to ride 250+ kmph right?
This bike will cruise at 150 perfectly for hours. 17L full tank might take you around 300 km (but this one gotta confirm with the owners first)

The er6f to me is just not worth the extra 7k for the fairing.
If I wanted speed so badly I'll just save more for a CBR 600.
Going for the 250 R is fine if you feel you're a beginner and absolutely in no hurry when you makan angin. And doesnt lose out on looks either.

+1 to a very thorough reply.

after reading your comment, i have finally go down to a showroom and check out the er6n. like any other bike shops, no test ride is allowed, so i mounted my butt on the stall bike while chatting with the salespersonal.

few things i have noticed while i sat on it:
1) er6n doesnt give the feel of a 650 biggie should. its slightly lower, shorter and thinner than others in the same class.
2) the foot pegs are annoying for a 6 footer. they are designed like those on sportbikes. my hip & knee are uncomfortable after resting on the pegs for 5mins. maybe its not the pegs, i suspect the culprit is the lowered seat that kawa designed to suit lady bikers.

this pic is very much self explained, just look at his leg, i believe hes about 5'8"
the riding position is ok on a sportbike or a racebike, but not er6n, its a naked streetbike which should have great ergonomics sweat.gif

Which showroom did u went to? Didn't try Ninja 250r while u were there?
the ninja riding position not too radical so it's quite comfortable..sat on it before..if u are around pj area we can have  TT and i can let u test my bike  biggrin.gif
*
well it isnt really a showroom, its more like an ordinary bike shop selling 2 wheelers with repair services.
it is in rawang, near the toyota showroom.

im now less interest in the er6n, the price tag is something i can compromise, but not the ride comfort. ohmy.gif
will narrow down the bike hunting to 250R. theres not much option atm.

and thx again for offering me to test your bike, i seldom travel to PJ but if i do, will pm you some time earlier (hope it doesnt trouble you too much) thumbup.gif notworthy.gif thumbup.gif notworthy.gif

btw, the shop has white er6f for sale, brand new for 36k. i always tot it is >40k.
whats the OTR price actually?

Added on April 14, 2010, 9:30 pmno 250R avail.
there are 3 kawas, the er6n er6f and a....cruiser....shadow? i didnt really look at it, lol

yup, definitely gotta drop by welly someday.

i hope 6 footer isnt too bad on a ninja. i saw lotsa 6' on cubs & scooter but still look ok. (some are 5'10" but 120kg) haha.

the pegs about the same height as er6n? hmmm

ok guys, i have come this far & kinda firm to get a Kawi 250R. of coz i have taken many of your advice to get a better & powerful bike, but CC is not what im after. leisure riding & economic are my only concern. so a 250 is the winner, hands down ^^

i have been busy searching in the web & found several adjustable foot pegs & custom made seats for 250R. there are plenty of after market parts in the web (especially ebay US), now all i need is few more grand for moding the bike wink.gif

current buying list:
slip on muffler
slider bar
adjustable gear lever (if long distance ride is frequent)
adjustable foot pegs (if long distance ride is frequent)
undertail/eliminator

but first thing first, i gotta settle the busy work which will probably last until june or so. then i will get 250R out of the shop. hehe

Added on April 19, 2010, 9:49 pmabout the kawi 250R engine spec, those in US are carburetors & theres also fuel injection for europe & thai... but why not malaysia? hmm.gif

kawasaki msia <<click on the "SPECS" tab
is that 2008 outdated model? or the 2010 ones are fuel injection?

thx bro, kawi 250R is the only one that gives the biggest band out of my limited budget.

carbs are ok too, but still i prefer the injecton x_x

thats a very good link, gotta dig into it right away. im quite surprised that indon now produce so many 250R parts especially for appearance mod. m'sia is sure lacking comparing to them :/

everyone likes the bigger (or the biggest) bike, im no exception. As in reality, everyone dreamed to drive a bmw, if not a ferrari, but most of us ended up with a persona or myvi.

for now im getting a practical bike based on my financial capability & current needs, im not buying a fancy litre bike for track racing, showing off or drawing chicks attention.

trust me, i know what im doing. thx for the advice tho.

hmm... why is everyone talking bad about kawi 250R?
this started to worry me if i make the right choice earlier. hmm.gif

performance is always the main concern, but comparing a 250 with a 650 totally unfair.

i have heard valuable comment from owners of blade 250, er6n, zx2, etc. Now i wish there are 250R owners that can share his experience here.

I also would like to get kawa 250r...... I don't really need speed.... Just want to have a good bike that suits my body size 164cm and 90kg (fatty)...
*
same here, speed is not my concern. i dont think imma bring it onto the highway. usually when i travel that far, i would be driving my car instead.

as today, my dept (car loan) already cleared. & my plan to get a baby ninja has never faded. however i have changed my mind abit, i would get a used carb by next year, coz it would cheaper by 1-2k consider the machine is a year older ;p

then i would spare some cash for an aftermarket exhaust, or maybe repaint it white, powdercoat rims.

anyway, the bike sales personal told me that the injection can go up to 200kmh, not like the carb that top at 170kmh. i wonder if thats true? hmm.gif

QUOTE(ridox_orimabu @ Oct 29 2010, 11:36 AM)
Mine is year 2009, bought it on April, mileage clock was 20k, n price is Rm17.5k at Welly Batu Caves. These place is highly recommended. Its a used bike tho. And i'm the 2nd owner.

Well, after i got my bike on the first day, i already change the muffler into AHM carbon. U can say the original setting was very...dull. So to add some fun, i need a good sound coming from my bikes. and AHM did really pull it off.. it sounded more like easy rider compare to superbike tho... not sure if u guys like that kind of setting. Well most people prefer Yoshimura. It have this higher note sound. Not that it sounded like 600cc superbike above.. laugh.gif

N did some test at Genting. My bike sometimes semput or not that powerful when it comes to climbing Genting road.. u know Carbs rite? If its an Injection model, it would be a diff story already. The RPM meter when i rev it to the metal, it will stuck to 9k..while evyone else gets 10-12k... maximum is 14k.. i went to Genting with this outcome for almost a month, once a week. Always kena tinggal one..coz slow. haha. damn 250.

only solution would be changing the whole pipes into FUll system. that cost me Rm450. Total change including muffler was Rm1.3k. I did it at NKS Sentul  thumbup.gif
n the result of the performance... is so bloody diff. u can say if i go head to head drag with another 250, i can tinggal him like 1 tiang or 2. Changing into full system really gets all those sleepy RPM into WORKS! N that time, Genting was fun. Going to uphill ofcoz. Downhill is diff story coz it really tears off ur balls. One wrong move, could be fatal. haha...

N afta a while, i change back the whole thing into original setting. Its all becoz i live a peaceful and silent neighbourhood (Hartamas) n that exhaust is damn one of a annoyance. Its too LOUD. Well, since i did rasa all those racing n thrill at Genting, i dun really mind taking it off and start to ride slow onwards. n i really did. But, somehow, the fun is diff. I mean, u can say the original setting are definitely Better. Smooth, not so loud and feels jaz nice. Best thing is? In my 5 months of owning the bike, it never breakdown, gives a crap or ROSAK at all.

Kawasaki definitely a good choice  notworthy.gif

If u guys arranging a TT, i might as well join u. If u guys wanna go to Genting, no problem. Its been a while since i go there  brows.gif
*
fantastic feedback! have been waited so long for input from ninja owner.
where is AHM made? did u go jetting after changing the full system? torque & top speed both increase?

thx
