well, most often in the afternoon where weather is hot and stuck in slow moving traffic or jam, or hi revving, my waja tends to lack in pickup/acceleration and gear changing. A few mechanic suggested that gear box is understress from heat built up, auto gearbox fails most of the time due to heat. i do always change the ATF regularly though. what's your opinion?

ATF cooler is to protect the gearbox not enhances performance.

continue with the tires talk. am speaking on my own and others experience with different tires.
the test is sometimes biased / too static coz' they usually take the tires for test when the tread is well over 90%. will you change your tires while it still has 70% tread? no, right? unless the tires is burst.
fyi, nct5 below 75% tread sux big time. this is where the cheaper sime astar 300 beat it on wet grip. of course sime astar 300 is noisy due to it's directional style tread but it still being considered as a value buy. good tires is fundamental. good braking system with lousy tires is almost hopeless, so, both works in tandem.
i never bought a tires based on the manufacturer / group test alone.  but based on compiled real life experience of many. esp. when the tread showing more wear.

btw, am a ps3 convert! the 2 pcs of ps3 donut i bought last week start showing it's true color. top notch  thumbup.gif

what is your car's mileage? lack in pick up doesn't necessary caused by the build up of heat on auto gearbox. it could be the throttle body, or wear out spark plug, weak battery / alternator and so on... when the throttle body is congested, car will takes forever to reach ratio change. thus caused the sluggish pick up and slowing gear change.
fyi, waja 4g18p gearbox is very robust. my friend had been using his waja auto up to 250k mileage without any problem. travelling pahang-kl-pahang without using atf cooler.
atf usually need to change around 15k - 20k mileage cover.

i installed an atf cooler to my waja auto before but removed it due to another problem; at times, gear refuse to change due to atf become too cold.
a good mechanic who used to works for a few big car's manufacturer, including proton, advice me to remove it and there is no problem ever since!
atf cooler is must on perdana though!
*
thanks for your reply, my mileage is 173+k km throttle body is clean shinny the last month i checked, spark plugs i change them every 5k service, battery is till fine 14.1Volts no sign of weak alternator. traveling at highway at high speed is not as harmful as in the city as wind carries away the heat but in the city acceleration/overtaking cars and stopping and going, no constant wind to transfer the heat produced. about once a month i do go back to penang and sometimes i do go to kerteh/gebeng to work.
IMO, if install the atf cooler makes the atf to be so cool that refuse to change gear, it cant be colder than the first few minutes in the morning when we start the journey, that gear changes smoothly or normal; right? hmm.gif

atf need to be in certain temperature to run properly. cold start temperature is fine but i found mine at times refused to change especially when traveling at higher speed.
no such problem before i installed the atf cooler thou.
decide to remove it and problem solved!
perhaps, you could install an atf cooler if your frequently stuck in the jam. cost under 300 bucks with installation. mine was of bosch.
make sure the re-routing of atf done properly to avoid a leakage.

btw, in some cases, mileage nearing 200k entitle to go for top overhaul?  tongue.gif
but my friend's already closing in at 250k an no sign of needing a top overhaul yet.
*
no sign of doing top overhaul, that's good, i am sure he takes good care of the car. well have u tried before adding atf additive?

tjroy,
change your engine to full-synthetic, and it should solve your problem.

fyi, ATF cooler is to cool down the auto gearbox and not for performance, it will decrease performance SLIGHTLY, due to lost of pressure.
*
i guess you missed my post, as i said atf cooler is to protect the gearbox not performance gaining tool. i have used fully synthetic engine oil too, but the problem does not lies with the engine, more to gear box. i have tried synthetic atf redline and amsoil, they just give slight better gear change, like them but they are triple and double the price of proton ATF. our engine is not design to be used with fully synthetic engine oil, when traveling long distance the engine oil tends to 'eveporate' off.

Jerry@ i am also looking into remote engine starter. biggrin.gif ea they sell about 4++ and the parts can be bought after warranty period if the parts fails to function.

nxt month is may la... just nice for me too laugh.gif

i wan to test car wit arb 19mm... there is another one is arb 23mm i think...
i sked it oversteer too much... 120 is my limit when takin a corner one lane... else i will hav too much understeer going into the corner....
*
at 19mm i am worry that the back passengers might feel discomfort due lesser flex=stiff, your car already lowered cornering improve dy, my absorbers are new stock ones.

You're probably talking about the valve cover gasket, and not head gasket. Its two different things.  thumbup.gif

Roy, if a dot can do so much, what about Filtermag?

I have this on my car and it works well.... dam pretty well...
Price range also doesnt run far from dots.
*
elton, its joe not roy. its bigger than a fifty cents coin, i have looked at the actual product, the pulling force just amazed me compare to filtermag which the seller sells demonstrated too. filterdot pulls the steel particles from half the oil capacity in a mineral bottle after a shacked, where filtermag (red colour) only pulls the top area of the oil, but filtermag has wider area covered, price is almost half of filtermag.

sorry.

filtermag does not pull the top area only smile.gif. U managed to pull filtermag off a filter, rather than not sliding it off?
Well, this filterdot, is the other side of the dot magnetic as well?

Added on April 13, 2010, 12:09 amanother cheap option if you want best bang for buck, hard disk magnet biggrin.gif
*
haha elton, from what i see from the demo, the suction is much powerful than filtermag, as it also draws some oil together with the steel 'particles' and can see the oil left behind less murky than fitlermag. i wanted to get filter mag dated last year, because of the price, i holded back and found out that in australia is selling too, my sis is over there asked to call them and i called them too, no one picked up the phone. to check whether its cheaper there. the hold back is filterdot doesnt cover bigger area than filter mag. the back side of filterdot is not magnetic. yeah i tried pulling both, also very hard to pull off, need to slide off. hehe
