HI,
i've a problem or not really a problem u could say.
the issue is every like 3 to 4 hours usually when watching movie at my pc, the video will stop for like 3 to 5 seconds and then i swear i heard a clicking sound from my 750g Samsung HD. it is one click sound and not the repeating one. I've read in some web that says, maybe the HD is rebooting and it also provides a sample of nearly dead HD and it does not sound the same.
My Q is what happening to my HD?
FYI, this is my second HD i'm talking about. the first HD is also 750 Samsung HD and i does not make any clicking sound or maybe i didnt realize yet.
would like to welcome any expert opinion and advise. TQVM

go to start menu, go to run and type cmd

inside that command prompt, type chkdsk (letter of the drive)

example

chkdsk c:

other you can try it to download hard disk diagnostic software like hardisk sentiner or other freeware software

yup .. possible symptoms of hdd dying.

the clicking sound is where the mechanical head trying to "strike" a particular area on the hdd.

sometimes, the sound also means a total mechanical failure.

to be safe, unplug this hdd to another unit and BACKUP!!!! <-- not ur games/apps, but the data (photo, videos, documents, etc. etc.)

u can restore the games/apps, but not the data smile.gif

there are few possible factors for the clicking sound...

if the clicking sound that u mentioned is like a spring on a roter and it happens periodicly, then it is a bad sector. u could do scan disk like the chkdsk mentioned above, or u can download samsung's scan disk from the official site.

if u hear the sound is similar to disk clashes with each other, then most probably it is a head clash and this is a physical/hardware problem that we cannot fix.
*warning* backup ur data and prepare for ur hardisk's funeral *warning*

hope this helps =)

its a "sound of the Grim Reaper calling for ur HDD"...no, juz joking.

my advice...BACKUP all ur important work, stuff etc from dat hdd. Coz no telling when its going to 'kiok'. But
the ticking sound is an early warning
