Sorry for asking underclocking question in a overclocking forum Im using AMD PhenomII x3 720BE unlocked to x4. I want to leave my pc online when I sleep to seed torrent & downloading so I decide to underclock my 2.8Ghz to 2Ghz or even lower. Currently I'm using AMD Overdrive and I reduce my multiplier from 14x to 10x and it manage to go down to 2GHz. I just wonder if I still or should reduce other stuff such as voltage or etc? Do underclock really reduce heats which prolong cpu life? Thanks for your reply

underclock alone seems useless to me.. why? because u just will make the pc slower and u gain nothing..
if u underclock + undervolt..then some loss and gain there... u gain more money by paying less electricity bill.

Thanks for your reply if u dont overclock, enable CnQ will auto underclock and undervolt for u when u have light cpu usages. and about prolong the cpu life, i dont think so, even a 1st gen Pentium alive now, but who gonna use it? if u aim for saving on electricity bill, try disable 2 core to let it run on dualcore instead. bill for 24/7 quadcore is insane.

generally, lower voltage = lower temp.
btw, use CnQ. it will go down to 800Mhz (200BCLKx4). must enable in bios, and set windows to use minimal power (not sure the full profile, but start with minimal on win xp). if you use other than that profile, i'm not sure if it will work or not.

How about running at 0.8ghz @ quadcore for 24/7? Does the bill also insane?
