contemplating getting the forte now instead of waiting for the new optima... tempting tempting...

but guess the prospect of 2.0 turbo, 6 speeder and the really gorgeous look might just sway me away...
*
Don't wait for the new Optima if you desperately need a new ride now... it's scheduled for 2011 outside of Korea, hence the fastest you can get it will be late this year. South east Asia usually get their cars slower than other regions, so you're probably looking at late 2011 or even 2012. Singapore will likley get it earlier than Msia.

not to say can't wait or not... Thought it would launch late this yer like forte (end of the year)... But if launch end of next year, I am not too sure then...

Anyway I like the sonata but with my Sis most likely getting it, not sure if I should... More over my other Sis likes it too...

Also dunno if they will take in 2.0 turbo... Hahaha... Heard that they are quite reluctant on that... Lauching os without turbo...
*
It would be a miracle if Naza brings the Optima in so fast. After all, they were almost 1 year late in bringing in the Forte and we all knew what happened to the 2.0L.

The 2.0 Turbo is not for every market. North America will be getting it, other regions most likely not. Australia won't though, although personally I think the Koreans and Japs should do what VW is doing - using smaller, more fuel efficient engines but turbo/supercharge it to provide adequate power. At the moment the known engines for the Optima are as below:

Anyway, the colours available for the Optima are pretty similar to the Sonata, except that Kia doesn't offer a metallic turqoise/teal.

I can't as I am in China right now. After project completed, will be back in June and planning to buy a new car.
Thats why I am here seeking 3rd party opinions. tongue.gif
My main concern for a new car is the space and comfort.
I have been looking from outside of altis, mazda3 and forte here...seems to me, correct me if i am wrong, altis is still more spacious than forte and mazda3.
Maybe you owners here who had been in an altis or mazda3 before purchasing the Forte can give me second opinions?

thank you all..
*
Never buy a car without test driving it.

Can't say much about the Altis as I've never really got a chance to sit in it, but space-wise the 3 is inferior to the Forte particularly in the rear. Again, like many others have mentioned, the Forte is the best bang for your buck. The 3 is generally regarded as having the best drive experience in this segment according to various reviews, but NVH is somewhat worse than others.

As for resale value, Toyotas and Hondas reign supreme in the Southeast Asian market. The Forte's second-hand value is yet to be known but the more demand for the car, the higher the value it will be.

I would rather have my weekends off to chill out despite the money. Weekend payrates are good but not as much as you'd imagine.
For Cera... I didn't haggle until the lowest possible price due to several reasons (time constraints, availability etc), but let's just say sub-27K with some usual add-ons that dealers often throw in.

used to be triple rate........and the vietnamese used to love to take the weekends...........

so the price works to about rm80k........which makes the rm92 price here good value for money, close to the REAL value, compared to usual japs..........
*
This is what the Forte set out to do - show the Japs that they are overcharging people for their cars. But of course, the issue of tax comes into play, but honestly nearly 130K for a Civic 2.0? I love the Civic very much but I'll save the 30+K for a 2.0 Forte thank you very much.

totaly agree with you..i wanted to buy the civic in the begining but then the price is killing with other commitments I would have to sacrifice. I didn't know there's a Kia forte exist in the market, which suppose to end me up with the City. Good thing my fren introduce me to this underdog Kia forte..best deal for the money well spent. Never look back
with regrets.
*
The City is not a bad car to be honest. Stylish design, cavernous boot (despite its narrow exterior), "Honda" badge... but the price is crazy. Yet like the Jazz it's going to be a seller. It's like iPod really... not necessary the best product on the market nor the cheapest, but people just want to get one. Marketing... over here in Australia you hardly see Kia advertisements apart from during events sponsored by them (Australian Open).

QUOTE(TrekY22 @ Apr 18 2010, 11:48 PM)
My colleague and I were out for lunch in my 4te last week, he was messing with my aircond buttons.
Suddenly, there was this really bad smell in the car, he looks at me and asks ... did you fart ? we were accusing each other for a few minutes, i almost had to take out my steering lock from the back ..... then i noticed .. he pressed the 'Auto' button and the air intake changed from inside air to outside air because of that. i found out that AUTO forces you to take outside air ... and that time there was a smelly drain next to the car !!!
if you change it back to inside air, it cancels AUTO ...  do you guys experience that ?  ( the AUTO function, not the dumb irritating colleague.)
*
Press auto, then press the recycled air button... mine still remains in auto.
However I never use auto mode as it often cranks the fan speed up to 3 or even 4.... too noisy.

sigh ... so divided now.

Went to Toyota showroom yest to look at the facelift Vios ...

As expected, the sales manager bashed Forte a lot - mainly on 2nd hand value and durablility after 5 yrs ... - many problems konon ..

Den he compared with Spectra 2nd value after 6 yrs only 11k .

Sigh ......
*
No need to have headache lah...

I personally think if the salesperson is bashing a rival model it means he has no confidence in his product and has to resort to underhand tactics. What the Toyota salesperson could have done is emphasise the Toyota brand and their market image instead of resorting to badmouthing other products. As a Forte owner and being in a Forte forum it wouldn't be surprising for us to say the Forte is the better car, but one man's meat is another's poison.

The easiest way is to test drive the Vios and then jump into a Forte and see the difference. If you realise what Kia is offering, then you might change your perception about Korean cars instead of listening to the skewed, prejudiced comments of the majority. If you still like the Vios, then go ahead and buy it. At the end of the day you want a car that you feel comfortable in, not what we tell you to buy.

*
Yes, test drive the Forte & the Vios before making your mind. It would be easier for us to provide specific answers should you have any questions after test driving it.

Some tips which may help during your test drive:
1. Sit in all seats, but focus more on the driver's side as you'll spend most time there.
2. Think about who else is using your car. If you need to ferry many people very often, interior space will be a huge factor.
3. Drive on different roads if possible - slow taman roads and fast highways. If possibly go for twisty roads where you can test for body roll during turning. Don't need to race like madman during test drive even though petrol is free. Treat the test drive the way you are going to use your car.
4. Off the radio and turn down the air-con. Some salespeople like to crank up the volume to overwhelm the noise of the engine strain/poor NVH.
5. Ask about service intervals, costs, and warranties.
6. If the salesperson offers freebies, make sure they print it out black and white on your invoice.

Thanks man for ur advise  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif

What i was offered by this SA :

1.6 SX - 81,600
1 full tank of petrol
1 steering lock
200 rebate on air cool tint

Thats all he offer me .

Is it a reasonable offer or can i get a better 1?
*
Can't say whether it's a good deal coz I'm in Australia. The others might be able to give you better advice on price. But again, make sure those freebies are written down black and white if you decide to buy from them.

And one more thing, try to visit more dealers if it's convenient. Most salespeople would match or even better deals offered by competitors, but of course don't bullshit otherwise as it's easily exposed. The 2nd dealer which I visited matched the freebies (mats, full tank petrol) offered by my 1st dealer, had the colour I wanted available in car yard hence no need to wait, cut the price by $50 (not much but better than nothing), gave free tinting, and offered 10% off parts for future servicing.

QUOTE(choonwai11 @ Apr 25 2010, 04:39 PM)

Added on April 25, 2010, 4:41 pmdid you guys feel forte is not smart enough to downshifting it self when need it?

i need to press really hard until max then only will downshift.....bit different from the other auto car i drive.

but lucky got shiftronic......
*
Gearbox wise, just don't expect too much with the Forte's box as it's probably one of the downsides to this otherwise brilliant package. Without the shiftronic, you'd want to kick its arse to get it moving. I'm using shiftronic full time now, the full auto mode is just too sluggish in up/downshifting.

Forte's auto gear box is dumb in the sense that it upshifts too early from 2nd to 3rd once the speed hits 30-40kmh mark and the torque dip kicks in... the lag is very significant to the extent of annoying. Downshifting has a problem as well - try turning 90degree corners at speeds >40kmh and you'll notice that the box struggles to decide whether to downshift to 2nd gear or maintain in 3rd. Most of the time it'll stay in 3rd but once you exit the corner you'll get the torque dip again. What I normally do is brake hard early, downshift to 2nd, and accelerate + upshift once exiting the corner.

Using shiftronic to upshift from 2nd to 3rd when your speed hits 50kmh (and at 65-70kmh for 3rd to 4th) will maintain acceleration much better, although keep doing that your FC will suffer.

Having said that, the shiftronic mode is quite sensitive that if you upshift at the wrong rpm or upshift when you're pressing the gas hard, it'll shriek loudly for a split second as the tacho needle shoots up like an amateur does using a manual box.

There is an ECU upgrade available by Kia to improve the autobox, but not sure whether it is available in Msia, or Australia for now. Should be.

I'm actually too used to the 2.0L's acceleration now that I don't feel that it's as quick as before... Want 2.4L now or the Optima's 2.0GDI Turbo. tongue.gif

I just want to ask what are the ideal or recommended speed and rpm for each gear (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th). Sorry if sounding like a noob but I never had a manual car and I do not want to spoil the gearbox with my abuse and lack of knowledge on the shiftronic function  icon_question.gif
*
Notice the red markings at the 30kmh and 50kmh? That's roughly the speeds where the auto box upshifts (30 for 2->3 and 50 for 3-4). However when using shift-tronic it's better to upshift from 2nd to 3rd at 40kmh and 55-60kmh for 3rd to 4th for smooth shifting yet maintaining some degree of torque. For more acceleration, upshift from 3rd to 4th at 60-70kmh...

The shiftronic doesn't allow upshifts from 2nd to 3rd if your speed is less than 30kmh or 3rd to 4th if <50kmh despite moving the stick manually. Which makes sense anyway - no point using 4th gear when you're rolling at 40kmh.

You can of course upshift at higher rpms say 3500 to 4000 or even higher. That way you get much more acceleration especially on highways but for normal urban driving smooth and steady is what you're looking for.
