i already find my 3G is lagging on certain graphic-intensive games (Riddim Ribbon mainly) and so I'm not suprised that multi-tasking (which would need more RAM) is only for 3G[S] and iPod touch G3.

its quite simple actually.
when you purchased (as I did) an iPhone 3G, it came with 2.x software. Apple provided an upgrade to 3.0 for no extra charges. for the 4.0, new hardware is required to fully utilise all the new functions. its like a Mac actually. for the 3G[S] owners, they started out with 3.0 software, and the 4.0 is their free upgrade. additional features, *all* working. next year, will be 5.0 and the 3G will be completely *un*supported, 3G[S] will be partially-supported, and there'll be a new model which will have full support < the last part is speculation |

Apple's page at http://www.apple.com/iphone/preview-iphone-os/ says "Summer" for iPhone / iPod touch & Fall for iPad.
so can expect it around late July for iPhone / iPod touch, and probably around late August / Mid Sept for iPad. don't worry about buying now, the OS update is free for iPhone / iPad. This post has been edited by xaw5126: May 7 2010, 03:56 PM |

the flame is caused because we have lazy / slowpoke members, who want to discuss, without doing any reading at all.
its like going to a Skyline owners club and saying "R34 really got 4-wheel drive ar? I heard its not very effective !" |

may I recommend that the mod deletes any posts that are unsubstantiated... that way this thread is clean...
meaning, if I say Facetime is iPhone4 to iPhone4 only, I need to link it something like this Facetime details Added on June 9, 2010, 3:24 pm@Jimsee short version, ringtones are a million dollar business in the US. If iPhone can directly do it on the phone, the artistes & music industry will sue Apple for loss of business. This post has been edited by xaw5126: Jun 9 2010, 03:24 PM |

here's my personal list of features that I can't live without on iOS (still on 3.1.2 on iPhone 1,2)
* IM-style SMS. seriously, being able to go back to July 2008 on my iPhone... is so fun. * 225,000 apps. * non-crashy OS. * glass screen. * HTML-5 browser < this is very important to me. I've been online since the Palm m505 days with IR & GPRS and trust me, having the real Internet is a deal-maker! * on-demand keyboard < I got 2 Palm Tungsten T|3 just for this feature. * non-flaky design - I'm quite picky on this... since I'm paying RM2000 for this phone, I expect a Porsche / Alfa Romeo level of quality. I don't see the Blackberry / Windows Mobile / HTC / Palm guys doing this. Since Apple can deliver all the above, AND glass screen AND metal body... yup, I'm buying one. |

dun need to waste energy trying to change them. Just improve the technology, make it harder and harder to jailbreak, and don't support jailbroken problems.
I'm guessing iPhone4 will 'call home' each time there's a software upgrade AND it will randomly generate a number to guarantee no unauthorised firmware upgrades. Again, I'm planning to support official developers, and ignore the jailbreakers... |

actually, maxis & celcom's stupidity in this area is why I'm moving to Digi.
what's the point of advertising all these wonderful Internet phones, data services & so on... & then supplying metered internet?! gesture interface = wink! sounds like fun. for me, the video call (AKA FaceTime) is Steve's way of saying "Look, all you guys have been doing it wrong" and the ad is a good example. aaanyway, I don't think the 3G calling on other phones will eventually 'become' compatible... since it looks like Apple would like the industry to adopt FaceTime as a whole, and most dumbphones can't do it. |

@aleluya
what do you want in iPhone5? cos you need to decide earlier on, and then when the product is launched in June 2011, you can decide if you wanna buy. for me, my iPhone1,2 is lagging when opening apps, and many newer OpenGL ES 2.0 stuff doesn't work at all. the camera is good enough, I did say last year that I want a 5.0 camera. and anyway, there's nothing else better in the market anyway |

seriously, who cares about it being AMOLED or IPS or whatever the hell? does it look good in person? is there a appreciable difference?
I keep hearing that AMOLED is not practical to use in bright sunlight, so I will not purchase one without testing... especially since we have very nice bright sunlight here in Malaysia |

@mmmbop
you got any non-Samsung people to verify that? @aleluya same question I mean... the product hasn't launched yet... and it'll be available by end of this month. Don't forget, we are all wasting our time comparing with the other companies, because Steve doesn't care about the others. He's got a vision, and if you disagree, go ahead and buy whatever else you like. if you disagree with the market leader... who is selling millions of devices... how? |

okay... now I'm impressed. i still wanna see the retina display in person. remember that pixel count, there's a reason we're getting 960 * 480 pixels on a 3.5" phone

er? noise canceling is for the built-in mic.
if you're using a handfree w/ mic, the built-in mic is switched off, same goes for the 2nd mic. its obvious, no? |

seriously, the hardware is not the only thing. even though the iPhone 3G[S] has only a 600MHz CPU, its still head and shoulders above most smart-phones.

cannot. cos 3G currently is different speed for download / upload... so both parties must have iPhone4 and both parties must be in WiFi.

@faizalmzain,
maxis iPhones (like all other phones sold in Malaysia) are factory unlocked which means you can use any SIM card worldwide and it will work 100%. that's partly why iPhones in Malaysia (and other factory unlocked countries) cost more. @elainor the software unlocked ones are usually risky, because we don't know how long the delay is, and how long the unlock is viable. Personally, I'd rather pay RM2500 for a guaranteed unlocked set (New Zealand / Singapore) |

I think I'll pass on the NZ option this time, cos it was a pain not being able to claim *any* warranty on my iPhone 3G.
