QUOTE(lok3i @ Jun 11 2010, 12:33 AM)
iPhone 4 and Samsung Wave have same CPU

Twins

Apple's iPhone 4  has the same CPU as the recently released Samsung Wave S8500. Young Choi, senior manager of the Technical Intelligence Group claims in a statement that the Apple A4 chip used in both the iPad and iPhone 4 is manufactured by Samsung.

Samsung has a longstanding "foundry" relationship with Apple. Choi said that by looking at the Samsung S5PC110A01 application processor and comparing it to the A4 application processor found in the Apple iPad he could confirm that not only is Samsung the manufacturer of both application processors.

He also identified that both application processors feature the same 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 core manufactured using a 45-nanometer low-power fabrication process. This means that Samsung is pushing its chip design across a range of products, it also means that the Apple A4 chip is not as unique  as the tame Apple press claimed. It also means that the new Android OS-enabled Samsung Galaxy S smartphone will also use the same processor.

Not only does this push Samsung forward as an important player in the smartphone chip market, it means that some this gear will have the same crucial bits as Apple's. The data also suggests that the graphics chip engine the iPad and iPhone 4 use is the PowerVR SGX 3D graphics core from Imagination Technologies.

Apple bought over intrinsity, they are responsible to tweak the A4 chip as it is now, its like the DSLR market sony make sensors for Nikon, but nikon tweak the stock sensors to be better equipped with their cameras.

Looks like the iPhone 4 will be released in either Aug or Sept for Malaysia. Singapore will be getting the iPhone 4 next month.
*
over at the Maxis thread someone claim to have an insider info taht they might get some stocks from SG for sale here, thru maxis, i cant gauge the veracity of this claim, take it with a pinch of salt.

Has anyone here watched WWDC 2010? There's a part in the conference where Steve makes a video call to the Apple designer, Jonathan Ive. If you noticed, Jonathan said:

QUOTE(Jonathan Ive)
It's sort of odd, isn't it? Because as, you know, the idea of communicating this way - it's an old idea. It's one that we're familiar with. We've just had to wait an awfully long while for it to become real, haven't we?

It's nothing big, but it left Steve speechless. I bet he regretted calling Johnny. tongue.gif

Edit: Source

its scriptedlah obviously tongue.gif, i think their intended message was we made THIS better something along that lines i guess especially if you see Scott Forestall singing praises for it in the ad and all.

@lanusb,

Good Question i must say, since old wall paper on 3GS and 3G is 480 x 320, if we use it into iphone 4 then it will become small into the iphone 4 i think.

or maybe it will stretch up so that the wallpaper will cover in whole screen?
*
i think this will make the pictures a bit pixelated so its best to make sure your pics are bigger than the resolution, for it to look richer

funny how steve jobs thinks that the iPhone is the only phone in the entire world.

dude, his company is making phones too, whats the point of harping on other companies product while side lining our own? what he said was hey finally we have this feature on our phone too, Johnny ive said the same thing as well, i know its easy to take things out of context.

I'm put off about the shattering screen. It's a disapointment because that's the most common thing to happen to every phone. Every body drops their phone sometime or another.
*
you have to be either:

1. very careful, vigilant at all times with no margin for error

2. get a folio case made of leather that protects the front and the back

3. get some type of hook or chain that could be attached to your belt, so that it doesnt fall to the ground.

Personally, a combo of no 1 and 2 would do already, its the same across the board for any touch based phones i guess

ah, but apple is pretty clear cut about the way they distribute their products and their partners, and this much i know. The ipads on the other hand are still facing supply issues.

QUOTE(doomx @ Jun 15 2010, 09:11 AM)
i has an agree on this statement too. lol. most of their short of supply is purely marketing gimmick kinda thing. i am sure they already got lots of stock ready and slowly distribute it portion by portion
*
nah the problem with apple is suppliers, you see this is a company that doenst need to stoop so low as in to produce a higher demand with limited supply because in theory such a practice which is evident in Malaysia(Sugar, Rice, essential good items), drives the product price up, apples prices are already set and their profit margin is still the same irregardless if they can meet demand or not, so theres is no point of keeping their products in a warehouse somewhere and not make money at all or recoup their huge investment in parts, they buy everything in bulk or large quantities, so if costs escalates they will lose out without garnering back the investment in parts and they'll be stuck.

A perfect analogy of this would be Airbus and MAS, the delays associated with the A380 is due to the parts manufacturers of Airbus unable to meet deadlines, again Airbus isnt a company that need to restrict produce to increase demands, because they need to shell out the planes as soon as they make them.

The problem with apple is that at times, their suppliers arent able to supply enough parts especially intel, even now you can see a pattern with the Hexacore processors that are supposed to be in macpros, but intel still cant make enough of them and apple isnt able to release new macpros. This same pattern i have been following since early 2007, it started with the first iphone and also made it ways to the first macbook air, and other things as well.

But apple has tried to diversify by employing other firms for its parts but key manufacturers like processors, (The A4 is made by samsung) cant be relegated to another company, because of technology issues and also reliability, price is also a motivation evidently Samsung also is the biggest supplier of processors to other manufacturers thus they are also plagued with supply issues.

QUOTE(davidmak @ Jun 15 2010, 10:11 AM)
Thats true. But it may not be supply shortages, it may be due to higher than expected demand. For example, I was in Melbourne few weeks ago and the day I landed was launch day. It was out of stock in every major stores I came across the next day. BUT they were quickly restocked on the fourth day (but limited units). The 16GB WiFi only model was hard to come by. The 32GB and 64GB variants were easier to find.
*
Ditto to that, hmm yeah the demand is also a big factor. Earlier report seem to suggest that apple will be able to make 3 million phones a month, from the look of things that wont be enough for a global launch, thats the reason for the phase by phase launching. Hopefully the part suppliers able to supply extra, to churn out more iphones.

nola where got veteran lol, make me sound old. Well as bro string said one page back they'll post a page of interest soon, hopefully alot of us can register and this will motivate them to bring them in faster, but thats just wishful thinking, Yea had a friend who ordered early august of last year and only manage to get it middle of september, maxis should take in more stocks then their usual 120K units.

guys,
just called maxis center and the customer service told me that their micro sim can be used for calls. Which means both data and calls, just bring your old sim to exchange for micro sim at RM25. Aint it a good news for those who will be getting the iphone 4 before maxis officially launched it  rclxm9.gif

you can also let them know which iphone 4 model you are interested in, they'll put this under interested parties.

Maxis says Celcom-DiGi pact good for industry
By Yow Hong Chieh

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — Telecommunications giant Maxis Bhd downplayed today its competitors’ plans to share infrastructure, calling it a “good move” for the industry.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

“It’s easy to share civil and it’s easy to share the hardware part of it.

“The hardest part of it is really the sharing of electronics, which is something we have to jointly develop,” he explained.

He added that networks wanting to share electronics must also share capital expenditure plans, roadmaps and architecture.

“[It] gets a little complicated,” he said.

in the end you wouldn't want to be caught in a situation "Hendpon je lawa. tapi takde line"

to be fair i have used the maxis line in remote places around the country, including parts in Perak Tengah, Sabah and Pahang interior, no problems there

hi guys this maybe a dumb question but i really need to know if i buy a unlock iphone from uk and bring back to use maxis how is the data and call rate charge will it be call to uk charge? or local call rate charge? since the phone is uk spec will it only recognize uk as local?
*
you do realize that only a telco not a phone which charges for data or calls right? a phone is a device, an operator is the provider, this really is Mobile 101. to put it bluntly, maxis simcar, maxis chargeslah what has it got to do with Uk plans doh.gif
