well the stone will oxidase hence the color will chg over the times (a very long time) since you are not selling it and buying to wear a long time so better color is much worth

Lazare is slightly better than Forevermark imo (though not by much), just go the DeGem Bangsar and check it out.

I think overall, Estrella was the best bang for the buck. The others, which cheaper, pale in comparison to the Estrella, Forevermark or Lazare. I went to Wah Chan and at first, the sales person tried to tell me their stone was great but after speaking to them in detail, he admitted that we can't really compare theirs to the likes of Lazare.

If you want to find out what are the differences in the cut, just ask them to show you their certificate and go use a tool like the HCA (http://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca) or the AGS (http://www.pricescope.com/tools/AGA_NAJA_Cut_Class_Grader) to gauge roughly what kind of 'shine' you can expect.

Lazare is expensive because it sits really high up the Cut scale, and all of their stones are cut to that measurement while GIA or AGS is just a grading agency, you can find great stones if you know what you are looking for.

I'd say go take a look for yourself, I didn't thought much about diamond and its differences until you look at it. Some will see it, some will not. Some cares for it, some do not. Just go look at as many as possible and pick the one you find best.

lazare if not mistaken minimum budget is more than 6k hmm.gif

It's definitely higher than the rest, if you compare the same carat, color and clarity with another brand, it can be a few k of difference ... sweat.gif

Thanks for the info.
Yup, I was told that Lazare is more expensive because of the cut. Went to DeGem pavilion the other day but the lighting there is not really ideal to check on the diamond's sparkle. Will definitely go survey more diamonds before getting one.

BTW Habib is having roadshow in KLCC now.
*
Habib's Hearts on Fire is freakin ex-pen-siveeee ... But it's nice, I can't deny that..

Just to clarify, you can find Lazare's cut in other places (because its basically just angles and measurements), the advantage with Lazare is that all of their stones is within that allowed range, so it saves you time wondering / guessing.

If you have access to the GIA /AGS certs, you can plug those figure in and you might find one as good, if not better than Lazare's cut.

Got it, thanks for the tips.

Yup, the Hearts on Fire is slightly more expensive than the Lazare based on what I was quoted, probably by 5 to 10%.

Diamond will oxidize and change color? Where did you get this info?
*
Now you know why I was surprised why he insisted so much on the diamond colour. Unless your SO enjoys putting immense pressure and heating her diamond up to about 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit, you won't see a natural change in colour.

There might be some stain to it but it is mainly superficial and you just need to send to the shop and have it cleaned.

Very nice. Congrats.

So you got the rock from one place and then took it to Tiffany & Co to set? Didn't know Tiffany does that.
*
I download pictures of the Tiffany setting (it's quite a popular setting) and got them (DeGem) to design it according to it.

Good to know DeGem can do that for you.

It's a platinum ring right? How much did DeGem charge for the ring itself?
*
Yes, it is a platinum, the default is white gold as usual, but my SO had experience some reactions before with a white gold so I didn't want to take that chance.. They didn't exactly broke it down for me, but from our discussions of the options, I guess platinum would have been around 1-1.5k?

how much is this?
*
I've been asked not to reveal the real pricing, but I'll tell you its in the range of 10k-20k.

QUOTE(jchong @ Mar 11 2014, 01:23 PM)
I think that is the ballpark figure for platinum ring nowadays.

A decade ago a 18k white gold Tiffany-style ring from Carat Club was RM485.
*
I think white gold is still relatively cheap. I was pushing to see if they carry palladium, but I think the jewelers are not keen due to the cheap price but stronger material.

My wife has the Tiffany Setting and this looks quit close.

They can't go an exact copy out of copyright infringement, I think. Tiffany's look nice, but it looks slightly weird to me when put on a larger stone. Though nicer than the 4 prongs classic setting.

No worries bro, I just went through the same experience cry.gif .. First of all, you have to establish a budget and if possible, the type of ring your gf wants. Then can carry on from there.
