this is quite true to great extend
i really feel that the hdmi cable makers r ripping us off for as long as they can...
juz look at a simple analogy: DVI interface which produces no less quality than HDMI interface minus the audio capability & look at the price diff of the two...if we don't call this rip off, then what?

it's subjective, for rich ppl with few tens or hundreds K of HT setup, the amount is negligible for them, satisfaction is priceless
for me at the layman class, even it is proven to have marginal improvement, the cost is still not justifying my low-end setup

if the performance doesn't outweigh the cost, i don't see the reason why people should spend that much amount of money to get so called "high performance" stuff..

for me have tested on 42" LCD, RM 68 VS RM 30 cheapo hdmi

rm 30 will not sync the bluray subtitle 1080p and sometime got wave or blur, RM 68 is ok for movie playing HD 1080

connecting my ps3 with cheapo RM 30 HDMI, playing game like killzone 2, fifa 10, pes, i've got ghosting and blur a lot..
connect with RM 68 HDMI cable.. that ghosting still have.. but less then before.. for 0% ghosting / blur..

= monster cable is solution? tongue.gif don knew cuz never tried it yet..
at last play my ps3 @ 24" Dell only laugh.gif

Used HDMI cables and adapters since early 2007... never paid more than RM 20 for a standard length... that's 3 years ago, where rarity/high demand increased the prices

After I took delivery of my $500 Denon AKDL1 Cat-5 uber-cable, Al Gore was mysteriously drawn to my home, where he pronounced that Global Warming had been suspended in my vicinity.

Yes, I had perfect weather: no flooding, no tornadoes, the exact amount of rain necessary, and he pronounced sea levels exactly right and that they were not going to rise within five miles of my house.

Additionally, my cars began achieving 200 mpg and I didn't even need gasoline. I was able to put three grams of cat litter into the tank and drive forever.

What's more, the atmosphere inside my home became 93% oxygen and virtually no carbon dioxide. In fact, I now exhale oxygen.

One heck of a cable.

Didn't notice any improvement in audio quality though.

The $800 Apple iCable is clearly superior.

For normal user who gaming in a PC monitor , cheapo HDMI will do, if you are using those HT(Home theater) or using big LCD with 7.1-9.2 HT surround(Not those pc brand speaker Logitech.....etc) you will see the difference. Been using Monster and audioquest all the while with my gaming and movie. Loving it. And tested between CAt ayam and branded.

didnt anyone told you that to print the name "SONY" on the cable cost more? it feels great to use it because the name doesnt fades away easily compare to those brandless ones.

I found a good site that reviewed almost every HDMI cable they could get their hands on. They're geeks, so be thankful that they did the testing for us.

Results
QUOTE
Every cable over 10 meters failed to pass 1080p, even at 8-bit, though Monster claims their m1000 Series can do just about anything (they didn't provide a cable over 10m to test and they don't sell it at lengths above 25 feet). At 10 meters the Monster Cable 700HD and 1000HD passes 8-bit, and we added Blue Jeans Cable (30 feet actually) and DVIGear. Blue Jeans, incidentally, uses a Belden-made HDMI cable. When we increased the bits to simulate 1080p at 12-bit Deep Color (similar to what's available in most HDMI 1.3a-rated products today) most manufacturers had to drop back to 5 meters to pass the signal. Blue Jeans passed it at 30 feet, but DVIGear requires their active cable solution to do a full 10 meters. Monster Cables' 1000HD cable also passed 1080p at 12-bit with no issues.

QUOTE
It turns out that manufacturers aren't idiots; and I bet more than a few realize that they can spec their cables higher due to the lack of content to prove them wrong. In short, they are getting away with it... for now.

http://www.audioholics.com/education/cable...tion-conclusion

the answer is - Wait and See.

For most of us Malaysians, i think we won't line our walls with HDMI, prefer to keep it outside, but for the rich enthusiast who will put a hole in their wall for the entire setup, its best to tunggu sekejap, because HDMI will defo upgrade. when we hit 12 bit there's apparently very few cables on the market that can handle it.

I think it depends on the distance from the source to the receiver also. If the distance is short (less than 3m), I think we won't feel any difference between cheap & expensive HDMI cable. If the distance is long (more than 5m or 10m), there might be some quality difference noticeable bcoz expensive ones do use better material for their cables like gold plated & other stuffs.

If you search Monster cable on Wikipedia, you can find that Monster caused a lot of controversy by charging high price for their products that have no significant difference to regular cables.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Cable_Products

So for us average users, I think a cheap one will do the job.

Yaya, total agreed!!!Even in the age when using analog cable,it is also recommended to train yourself by using the cheaper cable for some time before moving onto the more expensive cable.I dun think we need to buy too expensive digital cable and rather spend the extra money elsewhere .
