Hello everybody,
Do you know of any good worklogs on mounting a 7" LCD to a HTPC? There are some information I would like to gather:

- where did they source for a 7" LCD (or any other small size LCD)?

- the LCD that modders use, does it support VGA connection right out-of-the-box or they would buy those LCD with RGB signals and somehow mod it to VGA?

- how to power the LCD? make some molex connection?

- how about LCD drivers? can Windows support those non-standard LCD resolution?

Thanks.

some support VGA even DVI for video. touchscreen module will use usb.
the ones i found using google search use DC12V, so can use molex. might need to mod the connector smile.gif
yeah windows should support these 7" lcd. might need confirmation from manufacturer tho

good info! The 7" LCDs looks good and have some cool functionalities But the price erm... a bit too expensive.

I saw some 'electronic' photo frames in the Star newspaper today. I think the brand is Samsung. Entry level 6" LCD photo frame only cost less than RM300.

I wonder if we can take the LCD out (of the photo frame) and somehow mod it to support VGA connection.

More ideas needed! smile.gif If you come across a project that uses these 7" or 8" LCD, let us know.

Its definitely doable but not a cheap task even if your mainboard (some itx board does) have an onboard LVDS connection.

In any other case.. you'll need a conversion board like this

Guys,
I found something interesting. This LCD is powered via USB. Comes with touchscreen capability too. Price seems reasonable compared to other alternatives mentioned in this thread (without TS is cheaper!).

Link from amazon. Amazon

Dell USA is selling something similar too.
