Hi all,

The lamp post in front of my house is right at my front wall. I wanted to extend my front gate and the lamp post is blocking this

I was told it is possible to apply to TNB to move it away

I want to ask

1) How to apply?
2) How much does it cost to do so if approve?

Check with your local council office Bahagian Bangunan for the approval of extension and you need to specify with the officer that your extension will need to relocate the lamp post. He will then either approved or reject your application. If approved, you can then take you extension plans to TNB for further advice on the relocation of the lamp post prior to your extension.

Or else if you wan to do it illegally, just ramp your car straight onto the lamp post until it falls down, claim insurance and straight away do your extension fast fast before they can re-erect the lamp post again. HAHAHAHA

last time, at my parents' house, we called the TNB and asked them to move the lamp post, during that time, it was like RM 2k plus (this is half of the cost, the other half were to be borne by TNB) - but that was like 10 years ago; guess you nit to call TNB

2k plus is maybe for duit kopi plus some goreng pisang thrown in and maybe a packet of marlboro too. As afar as I know, if TNB get the direction from the local council (Majlis Perbandaran) they will need to move it, either they like it or not, and they wont even get a cup of skyjuice from the house owner infront of the lamp post!!

In some jurisdictions its not even permitted to extend your gate. I'm guessing what you want to do is make your gate the full width of your house, that's why the lamppost is blocking.

As far as I know, it is not legal to have a full frontage gate in MPSJ.

As @leongal has said. Call TNB and ask them t relocated the lampost. Its their under their assets and power to do so. Just pay them what they want if you dont want the stupid ugly lampost in front of your house. Indirectly increase your property outlook value.

Nice one. Not every property is perfect. It only becomes perfect when you know how to solve the poblem that occurs. Bought a landed property which has Irrigation Channel behind the house. Due to age of the channel, the back yard starts to settle. I engage my workers for sheet piling to prevent settlement, and yes it cost me a fortune, but the value of the said property went up. No harm done.
