Hi. I need suggestions. Finally i have to pick either sony ericsson vivaz or sony ericsson x10. but the thing is for sony x10 i need to top up another rm500 but for vivaz money ready. any reviews on it? getting the phone urgent...

please help..
*
go for vivaz as you said you want urgent..
if X10.. you need to search and collect another RM 500 .. that would take so long time..

as for review from user.. go to >> http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1216691 - X10
and http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1301665 - vivaz

X10 still better choice..

QUOTE(clquek @ May 19 2010, 04:45 PM)
I am interested to buy a phone with a slide out QWERTY keyboard. 2 models I have in mind at the moment is Nokia N97 Mini and Motorola Milestone.

N97 mini is a Symbian Smartphone.. while the Milestone is Android smartphone

QUOTE(clquek @ May 19 2010, 04:45 PM)
Does the GPS on Milestone only work with the internet on? I heard that the GPS on N97 is free as we can just download an Garmin application and we are free to use the GPS services without any data usage. Anything that works the same way for Milestone?

Milestone using Android..
for now.. only google maps which required connection..
later maybe Papago.. but still dontknow if it required connection or not..

well.. N97 mini is symbian smartphone
heck.. there are many 3rd party gps software that you can use.. and no need internet connection[use integrated gps]
the most popular software probably garminxt mobile..

but now.. nokia ovi maps come with free navigation[for certain phone,N97 mini included]..
so.. it is advantage using N97 mini...

QUOTE(clquek @ May 19 2010, 04:45 PM)
Does the Milestone have problems connecting to the wifi?

currently not..AFAIK.. based on your unit too..

QUOTE(clquek @ May 19 2010, 04:45 PM)
What are the difference in the sensitivity of the screen?

Motorola Milestone using capacitive touchscreen[just like iPhone 3GS]
N97 mini using resistive touchscreen[just like N97 LOL]
what the difference..??

Capacitive touch screen

Pros:
Multi touch support available
Visibility good even in sunlight
Highly sensitive to finger touch leading to ease of use
Not prone to dust particles
Glossy look and feel

Cons:
Need to have atleast 5% humidity to achieve capacitive effect
More expensive than Resistive touch screen
Doesn't work with inanimate objects/fingernails/gloved fingers
Latest technology, may need to evolve a bit more!

Resistive touch screen

Pros:
Relatively cheaper
Can operate with any pointing devices like stylus, pen, nail etc
Can operate at any level of humidity
Ease of use, as it could be used even with your winter gloves on!
Very useful for people using handwriting recongition system, due to ease of use with a stylus!
More accurate than capacitive touch screen!
Old technology and hence more reliable!

Cons:
Multi touch support not available. Though technology did evolve after some modifications with the existing resistive touch screen circuitry, its still not 100% developed yet!
Highly sensitive. As it can operate with almost any sort of pointing devices, can be more vulnerable with dust particles!
Poor visibility in sunlight, mostly due to multiple layers reflecting light!
Screen, being sensitive at the upper layer, can be more vulnerable to scratches!

So... you decide !

QUOTE(clquek @ May 19 2010, 04:45 PM)
Any comments on quires above? and feedback on these 2 phones?

Thanks!

Are u SURE when i use the Ovi Maps Navigation my Digi won't charge me GPRS Data Fee?
*
yes..
but based on your setting too..

if u dont want to connect network.. you can simply off in the option[garminxt also need configure setting first]

well. advantage of conecting to network is. maybe faster performance / more accurate / traffic updates..

but heck.. the performance without connecting to network also very good...

QUOTE(-kytz- @ May 20 2010, 09:50 AM)
For my dad..

1. Brand : Any
2. Budget :RM2.5k
3. Specs : Any but most importantly very user friendly(not complex) like Symbian
4. Type/Size : Physical QWERTY keyboard like the N97

Personal suggestion would be the N97 because it's easy to use.Typing wouldn't be a hassle when dealing with sms/internet typing due to physical keyboard. What other recommendations?

Don't think other OS like Maemo(N900),Winmo,Android,Bada would be suitable though....something simple yet intuitive like Symbian S60 smile.gif
*
Since your dad like Symbian phone and you dont think other OS is suitable for your dad.. .
N97 / N97 mini is the best for your dad

sure your dad dont wanna try other OS ..?

for me WinMo and Android isnt user friendly..

but why not your dad try N900[Maemo] first...

go to Nokia Shop and have a look and try the N900 first..
if your dad think it still not suitable.. , then.. N97 / N97 mini is the best for your dad

or maybe E72..? physical qwerty keypad.. but small sweat.gif

last answer.. for now . N97 mini / N97

@kae7 & x132755

Thanks for the advice

I didn't say my dad likes Symbian  biggrin.gif he doesn't know anything about mobile phone's OS.He likes the iphone because its smooth and got many applications, can flip the pages left to right..that sort of eye candy thing. But i advised him against buying an iphone because for me, it's a complex machine, not as user friendly as Symbian OS.And i'm using S60 now, thus able to help him out downloading songs/apps/videos later on.But for iphone i have no clue at all, same goes to Maemo,Winmo and Android. He tried out XPERIA X2 and seemed to like it too but i told him that it's using WinMobile which is gonna be complicated

And i'm also against N900 due to the small QWERTY keyboard,my dad's fingers aren't nimble as he's middle aged already. And Maemo is pretty new also right, which is also a concern.

So i thing the best bet now would be Symbian S60,forget about the N8 blerk blush.gif but can't seem to find anything else then N97?
*
it is for your father right..??
let him test all phones.,.
and let him decide his choice...
though... beside N97.. the another phone is N97 mini sweat.gif

IS your father is really want symbian phone..??
what are his requirement..? and usage..?
I bet he isnt geek that like to customize phone [N900] ..

sometimes WinMo is a great OS for elder...

as i said.. it depends on his usage...

iPhone isnt recommended as it has no phsical qwerty keypad.. doh.gif

i have problem need suggestion

1. Brand. - htc, SE, nokia
2. Budget. - nil too

I am looking at these or anyone know if got other with better performance??
SE vivaz, E72, Nokia N8, HTC HD mini

I need to use garmin mobile, wifi, cam can be decent usable format no preference, important can play videos with 720p format, and various other format like mkv, avi, mpg, etc....does phone processor matter with the ability to play video formats?? I like the vivaz but touchscreen abit zzz, cos i am used to iphone lo..not sure how others perform......but anyhow if i need to get vivaz i can live with it too

Added on May 20, 2010, 6:41 pmneed ur opinion

Budget unlimited..??

since you really need garmin mobile . then... just go for Symbian S60 3rd/5th or WinMo 5/6 , i recommend SE Vivaz..

but for playing various format video..[mkv/mpg etc].. you need 3rd party software...

phone processor matter when playing intensive HD video.. format of the video doesnt matter...

of course.. iphone is better in term of smooth touchscreen...

this is my recommendation

1. HTC HD2
2. SE Vivaz

HTC HD2 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor thumbup.gif really pawn SE Vivaz.. it also has Sense UI and Multi-touch input method , capacitive touchscreen..just like iPhone

but though..
SE Vivaz has stunning HD video recording.. and better camera features..
