Wrought iron is an incorrect description.
It is not wrought iron.
It is mild steel that looks like wrought iron.
Don't be fooled.
Only in some Western countries there are still some craftsmen who make wrought iron.
They do this by immersing red hot mild steel bar into the oven filled with charcoal
The carbon content in the steel is increased in this manner turning it into wrought iron.
He then has to hammer it into shape.
You can imagine this is such a labourious process it can be very expensive.

In Malaysia no one does that
So wrought iron is only mild steel bars that are rolled and hammered into shape.
Thats why it still rust and has to be painted.

Wrought iron because of its high carbon content does not rust.

anybody using hammerite paint for their grille ?

I have used hammerite for grille
It is very difficult to apply as its really tacky
And you cannot add thinner nor dilute it with spirit
If you do that you will spoil the paint
But then the finishing job is good
And lasts a long time
I used hammerite on my aluminium sliding door because i didn't like the aluminium color
Normal paint won't stick on aluminium but hammerite will
It gives it an anitique finish and that was what I was looking for
Be patient
Needs time to apply
And you probably will need more brushes too.

I know a number of people got taken in by the special offer of 19rm/sq ' in home exhibitions to install polycarbonate skylight for their homes. The job was so badly done. Structure so flimsy had to be taken down. Few months later it was already rusting. Another friend of mine decided not to install after seeing the poor workmanship and she opted for the company to landscape her garden instead because she could not get a refund on her deposit. So beware! Don't put downpayment unless you really know what you are getting.

What it the price difference between hollow and solid WI and MS grille? Seldom I get people quating the solid one why?

Anyone mind to share pictures of WI and MS because I can't tell but just have to take it when the quoter say this is WI or MS. Can it tell by appearance?

Wrought Iron is a common name for mild steel that looks like wrought iron.
Real wrought iron are those that you see in Buckingham palace and some very old bridges in London.
So essentially there is no such thing as wrought iron.
It is just mild steel bar, flat or round hammered into certain patterns to make it look like wrought iron.
Real wrought iron is resistant to rusting and need not be painted over.
That's why the WI you get needs to be painted with antique looking paint.
Most people cannot master the technique of painting it to look like its antique
And instead you get this horrible scribble of gold and black mix of paint.
Because they call it WI instead of mild steel they charge much higher.
