thanks for ur advice. for outter frame I'm using 25mm x 50mm x 1.2mm...  is it standard? or could be thicker?

by the way, for stainless steel, rm40 per sqft, is the price reasonable? (for small window only)
*
There isn't any so call 'standard', depend on the vendor offer and how much price they want to make out from you as well base on your request (if you are someone know the thickness)...

stainless steel main ppl use it for maindoor, aside stronger, cosmetically also nicer....windows no need la (usually)

choice, decision, money is all yours...

Where can I buy this hammerite?

QUOTE(chisel55 @ Jun 20 2011, 01:19 AM)
Wrought iron is an incorrect description.
It is not wrought iron.
It is mild steel that looks like wrought iron.
Don't be fooled.
Only in some Western countries there are still some craftsmen who make wrought iron.
They do this by immersing red hot mild steel bar into the oven filled with charcoal
The carbon content in the steel is increased in this manner turning it into wrought iron.
He then has to hammer it into shape.
You can imagine this is such a labourious process it can be very expensive.

In Malaysia no one does that
So wrought iron is only mild steel bars that are rolled and hammered into shape.
Thats why it still rust and has to be painted.

Wrought iron because of its high carbon content does not rust.

I have used hammerite for grille
It is very difficult to apply as its really tacky
And you cannot add thinner nor dilute it with spirit
If you do that you will spoil the paint
But then the finishing job is good
And lasts a long time
I used hammerite on my aluminium sliding door because i didn't like the aluminium color
Normal paint won't stick on aluminium but hammerite will
It gives it an anitique finish and that was what I was looking for
Be patient
Needs time to apply
And you probably will need more brushes too.

Anyone have the rough idea about how much the grille gonna cost for a double storey house?

Intend to do for all exterior windows for 4 bathrooms (small size) and 4 bedrooms, and also 3 doors (back door (kitchen), door from master bedroom to balcony, and front double door)? Possible to set the budget below RM 4k?

What is the cheapest option (with reasonable security), normal range and best option? Your advise is much appreciated.

So far I only know got mild steel, wrought iron, stainless stell and aluminium. For my budget, think only can for the 1st 2 options.

but seriously we come to this topic hoping to read opinions, feedbacks and hope to get contacts for good recommended suppliers, right?

for some of us going to a homedec isn't always an option because where we live.
