ya... there`s a way though.. a quite rude way...

by black and white.. ask him to come out with quoation, spec, then hold his money say 30% after finish job.. see if he do it or not.. see his bill to powder coat shop.. if no, then dont pay him 30%

Tell him straight to scare him a bit.. say your friend in other state is doing powder coat, but hard to do in KL.. so ask him to check....

Last week finally decided how the grill will like to be and informed the two contractor for quotation, but endup both also ask me to dropby and select the material myself than only provide the quote.
They indicated that will be much more ease for them. sad.gif
Same goes for my gate too

Not quite. Powder is time saving as it is throw into oven n bake. Wi gate is most time consuming in paint job. U need 4 layer of paint at least. Oxide primer, black Matt, colour n clear. 4layer x 1-2days of paint n dry =8days

This is for good contractors. For powder coat, obviously faster. For powder coat yes more resistant as it contain epoxy as binder that act as lock to lock the paint into it's tough form. Again, primer n surface preparation n powder coating thickness come into play.

I can propose u a paint system that is equivalent lasting than galvanize n powder coat.
Regards.

How much they charge on wrought iron door or window?

I was quoted RM19/sq ft. I sign up with them during homedec last May. I also think its a bit expensive for the wrought iron, but my neighbour say he trusted the company.

what's the different between mild steel and wrought iron? i dunno about price/sqft..
i'm currently looking around for grille quotation, so far for a 2-storey intermediate house cheapest is 3k wrought iron + hollow steel
*
Wrought iron is an incorrect description.
It is not wrought iron.
It is mild steel that looks like wrought iron.
Don't be fooled.
Only in some Western countries there are still some craftsmen who make wrought iron.
They do this by immersing red hot mild steel bar into the oven filled with charcoal
The carbon content in the steel is increased in this manner turning it into wrought iron.
He then has to hammer it into shape.
You can imagine this is such a labourious process it can be very expensive.

In Malaysia no one does that
So wrought iron is only mild steel bars that are rolled and hammered into shape.
Thats why it still rust and has to be painted.

Wrought iron because of its high carbon content does not rust.

I have used hammerite for grille
It is very difficult to apply as its really tacky
And you cannot add thinner nor dilute it with spirit
If you do that you will spoil the paint
But then the finishing job is good
And lasts a long time
I used hammerite on my aluminium sliding door because i didn't like the aluminium color
Normal paint won't stick on aluminium but hammerite will
It gives it an anitique finish and that was what I was looking for
Be patient
Needs time to apply
And you probably will need more brushes too.

I'm also using Delux for my backyard skylight - signed up during the Perfect Living in April 11. Product: Sukaiyo solid sheet at RM18 psf with mild steel structural frame.

So far I'm satisfied with their after sales service, as I've called twice to complain on the leaking of the polycarbonate. Both time, they were quick to resolve the issue. Installation quality was so so, not impressed because it shouldn't be any leaking in the first place.

But I like the Sukaiyo solid sheet (imported from Japan) which I got it at RM18 psf. The quality is better than local solid sheets which are about the same price too.

I did asked for the wrought iron grilles, but their pricing were on the high side. At the end, I engaged Ivy from Three Kim for my gate and grilles. smile.gif
