What it the price difference between hollow and solid WI and MS grille? Seldom I get people quating the solid one why?

Anyone mind to share pictures of WI and MS because I can't tell but just have to take it when the quoter say this is WI or MS. Can it tell by appearance?

Thank you thumbup.gif

dig back on my previous explanation....

Wrought Iron is another type of metal.. but due to escalating cost, people do not user WI, but take MS and hammered into textured shape...

as time goes by, people still call WI when they see textured MS

I wont say ALL, but mostly....
last time, when real wrought iron are forged by cast it into moulds into a panel shape
like in the pic
http://images.artfinding.com/lot/_203/seve...72233075759.jpg

but it is darn expensive to cast a shape like the pic...

it all depends on you(as owner)

what do you want?

textured shape? finishing? powder coat? antique? coloured?

in the end, it is the colour paint & protection paint that dictates its service life.

P/S many fabricator will ask you to go for powder coat... why? save their time in painting. painting wrought iron is a tedious job...

Hi Awakened Angel, thanks for the sharing...Yeah the WI outside don't look like the pic that you shown. So when they said it is WI mean just by the name not really the material...But powder coat should have better rust protection than painting right?

Hard to tell. Do you know what thickness of MS and anti rust coating? Also, some WI designs cost a bit more.

Auto gate would cost about RM1.5k. The thing about metal contractor dealing with auto gate. Will he able to service you once your auto gate is down? I went with the same metal contractor knowing he is responsive and reliable.

If you have paid booking with the contractor, do not bother to find out if it is overcharged. Just pray the workmanship is satisfactory.

Not quite. Powder is time saving as it is throw into oven n bake. Wi gate is most time consuming in paint job. U need 4 layer of paint at least. Oxide primer, black Matt, colour n clear. 4layer x 1-2days of paint n dry =8days

This is for good contractors. For powder coat, obviously faster. For powder coat yes more resistant as it contain epoxy as binder that act as lock to lock the paint into it's tough form. Again, primer n surface preparation n powder coating thickness come into play.

I can propose u a paint system that is equivalent lasting than galvanize n powder coat.

Regards.

Try Malware (M) Sdn Bhd. 603-56349318. They specialize nothing but paint and coating.

1.0mm do not exist nowadays... mostly is 0.8mm

and even it is 1.0mm, it is still very thin.. best is go for 1.2mm(min) or 1.6mm

That's the problem. When u ask for quotation, no detail spec is given which give rooms for contractor to 'cheat' their way through.....

Like I advice many former here, go to hardware shop with contractor n choose the best material yourself and let the contractor alone do labour cost....

just gather a very useful information with my neighbour which doin the powder coating for aluminium. According to him there's a few type of powder coating grade. Its better to use the powder coating which is meant for exterior used and go for the smooth surface instead of rough surface, reason is easy clean and easy to maintain. But he do says that before going for powder coating, the raw material need to go for the so-called liquid treatment to make it more girb and long lasting. At least i know what to ask to the grille contractor
