i tried installing it ur way, but everytime i check the device manager, it still says drvier version 188.55.

where did i go wrong?
*
To install the latest 197.16 official drivers on a M11X u need to go to ur bios, set ur graphics to discreet, then only u can install. IF u use the hybrid u can't install it, forever u will get error coz the intel graphics will interfere with your graphics. And even if u can make it work u can't switch ur gpu anymore. I tried this on a M11x. tongue.gif
Running the 197.16 3dmark got around 64xx gain from 61xx, was tested on a demo unit with a SU4100 processor. The memory only 3gb, duno if it would make any more diff if 4gb. drool.gif

guys where can i get the details for latest m11x?

do all of you buy from Dell? i saw All IT selling @ 3699. good buy?
*
The retailer units are Su4100 if below Rm 3699, if RM 4199 it will be the Su7300. Usually it comes with bagpack, foc items upgraded spec and stuff. Benefit is can take credit card and 0% installment. If buy from reseller here, can get cheaper but must pay cash. Do try to check the service tag and also call up dell. Not to condemn reseller here but I did experience lappies without warranty as it's not for Malaysian market and must upgrade the warranty to 3 years to get international warranty. doh.gif

correction the shop unit sometime cannot upgrade to 3 yrs warranty
*
I think u need to be corrected, unless it's those unknown unit from overseas, all can be upgraded, but price is definitely higher than wut u customise from online. Btw afaik 3 years warranty from overseas is covered by malaysia as well provided u do the ownership transfer. Make sure u check ur service tag b4 u purchase even those unit from overseas or retailer usually u can get info from the tag.

mine also got 1 bright pixel...... i forgot how many pixels you need to change it but i couldn't, they also told me the M15x LED LCD requires higher pixel to change, forgot the numbers though
*
If u got the complete cover u can nego with the support, like say the bright pixel or dead pixel is makin u unable to perform ur work. Those with higher paid warranty usually can bargain it off. But it depends on how good ur bargaining skills is. Malaysia i am not sure but overseas they have very high customer satisfaction rate. But no doubt our malaysian people if dun care then sure they won't bother. Depends how serious we make our problem seems to be usually if u escalate ur case u might get lucky. But due to typical malaysian mind some do take for granted hence most supports will ignore or even brush off if u just mention ur screen got bright pixel or dead pixel. Best is to mention the screen is blurry, givin images, dims, or having dark spots. If they see it's a serious case they might change the panel for u coz the problem is not the dead pixel or bright spot it's the panel. brows.gif

I hope nobody will take advantage of this as I heard from the dell support technician some do take advantage of it by claiming for items which totally don't have any fault. rclxub.gif

If they whack in a 5650 or 5750 or even 5830 then it would be a steal. But to make the price hit around USD 999 or RM 3999 is quite hard with those upgrade unless they skimp on something. Probraly using I3 or I5 would be a better choice. drool.gif

If they really do that, I might even be tempted to sell my M15x... Praying hard for it NOT to happen XD
*
Well it's hard to say unless dell officially announce it. But one thing I go for M15X is the higher res screen, faster processor and built-in DVDRW. If I want portability I would go for the M11X long ago. 1366X768 is the main problem I won't go for the M11X. I would go for it if they have 1600X900. tongue.gif

So fast i need to do clean up? i just got my m15x like 1 week+
*
If ur house got pets like cats, dogs, squirrels, rats and stuff u might need to clean up more often. I cleanup my laptops at least once a month the dust bunnies usually collect up around the heatsinks and not at the fans. But different model of laptops have dusts trap at different places.

*
Did u make sure u had those bootable files inside ? not sure wut version of boot up u used if it's the good old msdos then u need msdos.sys, io.sys and command.com. Why dun use a pendrive to boot ? Those r really easy and dun need to waste one piece of cd. brows.gif

I also want to buy the same spec laptop. there are any problems this laptop?

Added on May 24, 2010, 6:02 ambut Refurbished DELL SXPS 16..- RM3150 without freegift
*
For around RM 3.9k u can get the I5 430, 4GB ram, 500gb hdd, 4670, full hd XPS 16 edi locally. IF around 3k+ u should be able to get those xps 16 with rgb led if refurb same spec. XPS 16 u need to get a 120 watt adapter to harness the full power, and also run a program called throttle stop to unlock the full potential of ur laptop. drool.gif The bottom of the laptop musn't be covered and if can must use a cooler pad to cool it so it won't generate heat. I have a few cases customers adapter blow off especially when they charge and use their laptop. 90w adapters r not enough for this laptop. shakehead.gif

Check other part is it ok..I change my blu-ray 2 time lcd panel 1 time. Now got 1 bright pixel but i'm lazy to call.
*
Dun be lazy bro, since u got cover by local dell must say how teruk how teruk so they can compensate u for ur trouble. If ur good in bargaining and negotiating like some users at US u can get foc upgrade and stuff. Usually they claim coz of these problem u encounter problems for ur work, school, and hence ur purchase seems like useless bla bla bla. Then they will think of ways to compensate ur losses and might upgrade ur laptop n stuff. Usually it's only for those who upgrade to 3 years with premium complete cover. At Dell the more u pay the better service u expect so use ur bargaining skills and win sum freebies. Got owners got free upgrade to 6gb ram or 8gb ram, sum from normal 720p, 900p lcd to 1080p. And certain upgrade processors or hardisk as well. But Malaysia I haven't hear any such cases yet, if got also not us locals but foreigners.

M15X with 5870 Mod

Try to check out the linky above. If I didn't read wrongly not much mod is required mainly the money to get 5870 will be the main issue. drool.gif

yes i knew that.

the problem is - local warranty. i hate to send it back to US if anything happened later (God forbid)
typoo.. sweat.gif

already edit my reply. anyway, the price is not that cheap. but lesser than 1k. around 0.8k, roughly..
*
0.8k for 5870 ? Really cheap if compared to what those at nbr are getting their paying around USD 339 for the card and around usd 25 for the heatsink thingy. If it's below 1K I also might consider if I can get rid of the 260 GTX i am getting soon. thumbup.gif Actually kinda regret didn't opt for 240 to save more costs. sweat.gif

bro dun opt for 240 coz im regretting getting it ...should go for 260 ATLEAST....hahaha ...
*
sweat.gif I already already order M15X with 260GTX I mean if I know the 5870 can get for 0.8k I would have opt for the 240 coz it's cheaper and no need to bother selling the 260gtx. brows.gif Would U be interested with the 260GTX if I manage to find a 5850 or 5870 ?

The reason I don't really like 260GTX is coz the tdp, if I din remember wrongly 260GTX needs 75 but the M15X only can provide 65w. So getting 5850 or 5870 is safer. Anyway i'm still waiting for my unit to arrive, haven't ship out yet. doh.gif So I guess I will be getting the Asus 1st and later only can get the M15x. wub.gif

Issues of M15X

Try read up those it's not really a big issue, but I do believe that Malaysian never push their laptops to the extreme so not many will notice bout this. Other people might try to do it thus found out sum issues. The issue started with Studio XPS 16.
