so, the strongest gtx480 may only be equivalent to perhaps gt240 for desktop? is that what it means? apart of the directx11 support la i mean..

For Nvidia, the performance of desktop and mobile of same model differ a lot.
While for ATi, the difference not as much as Nvidia

QFT. this is because Nvidia always rebrand their product which is roughly the same in term of specs.

that's a plus point if you want to game while travelling or wish to improve battery life. i prefer to sleep while travelling.

reach hotel baru start gaming with the power cord connected. so to me the SU isn't exactly that helpful, furthermore games are getting more intensive and for a gaming capable machine I would love to be able to play 1080p movies properly as well.

i think games like Supreme Commander would probably just crawl like halfway through the game.

i have Supreme Commander 2, runs at a decent framerate (>30fps) most of the time.

imho, if everyone wants to play more CPU intensive games, go get dome 18" desktop-replacement lappy and forget about portability. or better yet, get a uber desktop for 1/3 of the price.

guys..
last night i tried to use my m15x using battery..
but the battery only lasted for 2 hours..MAX!!
why is this??

and then, after i recharging it,i tried to play need for speed shift which i play with max graphics all this while..
when i tried to play on battery power..its so laggy..then i put on the ac adapter..then smooth again..

why is this?can anyone tell me..

For m15x, it will automatically throttle down when you use battery. I usually just leave it plugg if i plan on playing games. for surfing and normal word processors, battery is fine (though so far i can only stretch it for 2 hours too)

I guess then the 5870 Is the end of the line for the M15x being a single GPU only. M17x users have bigger GPU's in sights, assuming that NVidia comes out with them MOBILE ones soon..... I have it when a competition takes so long to release their new cards. Lack of choice for us customers. Even though its tricky, and I have 3 years complete cover for my 'beast', I'll definetly wanna look into the possibility of changing my GPU to a DDR5 one if the switch over at the notebookreview forum is SAFE and WORKS WITHOUT A GLITCH!


If you compare cards, the DESKTOP GPU's are definetly more capable as you can also see in their packaged ram which goes up to 1.5GB per card. Clock speed etc you can check online at the NVidia.com website for more details but normally cards which starts with the same number in front will lean more to the Desktop side in terms of performance.....(We can't compare a low end to a high end). I wished they didn't make it so complicated, but then again the size difference is huge between the desktop and mobile variant. If only they'd make more efforts to squeeze more juice into the MOBILE NVidia variants since we're paying huge sums for the portable cards.....

You can check your power management when running on battery. Normally when running on batt, the processing power would be set to best battery or something like that. I experienced this when I just got my 'Beast' and played RE5 on Power then on Battery. I switch the processor to Maximum Performance during battery mode. But you'll prolly last an hour or so....

It's a gaming laptop aka desktop replacement. It's not supposed to be run on battery. Having a laptop like this means you should expect <2 hours of gaming. So many high performance parts will drain a lot of power...

in ur bios, turn off Intel Speedstep. will help when gaming on batteries...but the drawback is it'll definitely last much less than ur stated 2 hours.
