Will poor or no extra cocuriculum involvement and achievement cripple my chance to get a scholarship?

According to my friend, Sime Darby Scholarship need a 2000 words essay, correct?


My friend got A+ in maths, add maths, physics and moral, A in malay and english, A- in chemistry, biology and chinese, but a B+ in sejarah in SPM 2009. The B+ grade in sejarah made him ineligible for a number of scholarship that requires a minimum A- in sejarah, eg JPA scholarship. Do he stand a chance even if he try for JPA or ASEAN scholarship basedon his results?


P/S: if a scholarship says that one must have a minimum 7As, is A- considered?
