Hi Weng,

There are some scholarships that are bonded, mostly are not. Look at it at the bright side, if bonded means you get a job without needing to hunt for jobs like most fresh grad, and going through all those interview process could be painful.

Some bonds are 5 yrs, some are even more, PETRONAS is 10 years!, is totally up to you to take it or not. But i dont think there said you cant be promoted in those years, after all, company see potentials in you and give you scholarship so that you can serve back to company and contribute something. Getting scholarship shows that you are bright student already.

Not bonded is good as in you have wide choices of job out there to let you choose , you dont have to break bond( which means you pay back everything).

In 2008, Talisman Malaysia Limited launched three scholarship programs totaling approximately $600,000 with the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia and University of Malaya over the next five to six years. The Talisman Malaysia Limited Scholarships are focused on programs of study relevant to the Company’s upstream oil and gas business in Malaysia, namely geology, geophysics and petroleum and chemical engineering.

Subject to the terms of each program, the Talisman Malaysia Limited Scholarships cover the full duration of the program of study and cover costs such as:

living allowance;
book allowance;
computer and printer allowance; and
other fees regarding field work.
Scholarship recipients will also be given priority to receive industrial training, obtain internship placements, join the new graduate program and access the campus- and office-based support activities available at Talisman.

In recognition of the British High Commissioner’s support for The British International School in Kuala Lumpur, The British Schools Group has announced the establishment of The British High Commissioner’s Scholarship.
The scholarship programme will accept a new scholar every year and will cover the costs of their schooling from Year 5 (aged 9) through to the end of secondary school. Scholars are selected by the High Commissioner.
The scholarship is fully funded by The British Schools Group. Full scholarships include all fees, materials, uniforms and lunches. Each scholarship is worth approximately RM600,000.
The scholarship programme commences on September 1st, 2009.
This scholarship is open to:
- Malaysian nationals,
- who are 9 years of age between September 1st, 2008 and September 1st, 2009
- with family incomes below RM3,000/month, and

The University of Adelaide Law School Scholarships are available to eligible Malaysian students who are studying the South Australian Matriculation (SAM) program in Malaysia and are seeking entry into a Bachelor of Laws degree in semester 1 of 2010. The Scholarship provides a one-off payment for living allowances.

Eligibility Requirements

Have applied to undertake a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Adeliade and obe offred admission into semester 1 2010 by the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Center (SATAC);
Commence an academic program for the first time at the University of Adelaide ; AND
Be a citizen of Malaysia
Selection Critirea

The Scholarships will be awarded for academic excellence to outstanding Malaysian students.


Applications will be assessed on the basis of:

1) TER score; and

2) Statement of Purpose supplied to the University of Adelaide.

Extra-curricular achievements will not be considered


Application Process

An application for admission to the Bachelor of Laws degree at the University in 2010 will constitute

an application for a Scholarship provided that a Statement of Purpose is forwarded separately to the

Law School by 31st October 2009.

The Statement of Purpose should contain no more than 1000 words, detailing why the candidate is

interested in undertaking a law degree and how the knowledge gained will shape his/her future. The

Statement of Purpose must be lodged electronically through prof.enquiries@adelaide.edu.au by 31st

October 2009.

Successful recipients will receive a Scholarship Offer from the University within 1 week after the

release of their TER by SATAC.

Nippon Foundation Fellowships for Asian Public Intellectuals

The Nippon Foundation Fellowships for Asian Public Intellectuals (API Fellowships Program) is designed to stimulate the creation of a pool of such intellectuals in the region. They aim to promote mutual learning among Asian public intellectuals and to contribute to the growth of public spaces in which effective responses to regional needs can be generated.

Who can apply?

Anyone involved in the production and exchange of knowledge or ideas in line with the goals of API Fellowships Program. This includes academics, researchers, media professionals, artists, writers, NGO workers, social workers, public servants and others who work for the betterment of society.

General eligibility requirements:

- Applicants must hold the nationality or proper resident status in one of the five (5) Participating Countries and reside in the country at the time of application;

- Applicants must attend an interview at a designated date and place;

- The proposed project by the applicant must take place and should be completed within the period of July 1, 2010 to July 31, 2011 (Note: The fellowship period must be continuous.);

British Chevening Schoalrship

Chevening is the UK government’s premier scholarship scheme, aimed at future leaders, opinion formers and decision makers. These scholarships are offered in more than 150 countries and are funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In Malaysia the scheme is administered by the British Council on behalf of the British High Commission and provides an opportunity to outstanding young Malaysians, from a variety of fields, to further their studies in the UK at a university of their own choice.

Requirement :

Malaysian citizenship
Fluent English
Upper second class degree or higher
Proof of professional achievements
Professional experience (preferably 2 years minimum)
The scholarships are intended for candidates who wish to undertake one-year taught courses leading to a Master’s qualification. Most successful candidates are aged between 25 and 35.

Candidates are also expected to show a commitment to return to Malaysia, where they will contribute to the country’s socio-economic development using the new skills and knowledge acquired during their stay in the UK.

Cost cover

Travel costs to and from the UK
Academic fees (with the exception of business school programmes, where the fees’ element of the scholarship is capped at £12,000)
A monthly living allowance
A modest allowance to help with settling in the UK and to cover books and warm clothing
A thesis/dissertation allowance, if a thesis or dissertation has to be written as part of the course
