@busyman: No harm buying a body 1st, then later only buy lenses. With your budget RM3k, I will say the same thing as bad melatonin, get D90 body + 50mm f/1.8D 1st.

550D VS D90? Of course D90, reasons, 1, build-in AF motor (extra advantage) and 2, the top LCD (looks cool tongue.gif ). Anyway, don't be fooled by the MegaPixel.

In terms of the price for lenses, Canon or Nikon, both are slightly the same. But bare in mind, Canon's lenses will not come with hoods, you need to buy it (Generel_Nic told me this). rclxms.gif

Still, the choice is in your hand. Cheers icon_rolleyes.gif

eh, did i give salah info, my fren?  tongue.gif
only their L lenses comes with hood, other normal lenses dun come with it
but Canon users always say the hood r in the price of L lenses d  laugh.gif
*
LOL, I thought it applies to all of their lenses, including L lenses, maybe I didn't pay too much attention to your talking? cool.gif

QUOTE(celciuz @ Apr 9 2010, 02:19 PM)
550D has built in AF motor too isn't it, but one of the main reason why D90 rocks is the interface is much better. Lesser menu interaction required smile.gif.
*
Woot? 550D has a AF motor? (Didn't really read the specs) doh.gif
Very very sorry to busyman.

QUOTE(fcuk90 @ Apr 9 2010, 04:48 PM)
my friend want to get dslr  .
d70 or d3000 for her ? .

i m suggest d70 altho d3000 ,

how about u all think?
*
D70!!! Hmmm, but D70 has a smaller LCD, then D70 using CF cards intead of SD (some ppl prefer CF), then don't have black&white, sepia, negative etc etc. Maybe girls won't like it. Worst of all, no self cleaning sensor!! vmad.gif

But on the other hand, D70 is bigger (nice to hold), got AF motor, got top LCD, flash sync 1/500, got grid view (not sure D3000 got or not), use same battery as D90, D300, D300s and D700(longer life span) etc etc.
Consider D70s? Can use battery grip and bigger LCD.

But for a girl (not that I look down on her), perhaps D3000, easy to maintain, easy to carry around hehe. laugh.gif

hi there, i'm using a Nikon D40 now, bought it earlier this year for Photography Studies. i think i need an upgrade liao. is there any new zooming lens suitable for my D40? like the lens for the D80 & Canon 300D? Need professional advice here  sweat.gif

coz i think my dslr zooming not very powerful liao D:, unlike my digital camera  tongue.gif
*
Me newbie, but just wanna know what lenses are you using. Mind to share with us? laugh.gif

QUOTE(noobie1 @ Apr 9 2010, 07:08 PM)
digital camera can zoom how much hmm.gif
i tot those digital camera zoom are useless?? coz usually after zoom the quality turn down...
*
hehe, don't look down on Digital camera especially compact nowadays, very hightech liao, unlike those days 3.2mp, zoom really sucks.
Try Lumix TZ-7, TZ-10 for now perhaps, hehe, I got shocked at the sharpness of it. brows.gif

When Canon implemented AF they decided to go straight to the focus motor in the lens which is called EOS (Electro Optical System). Canon EOS models do not have an AF motor in the body but have contacts to the AF motors in the lens much like Nikon AF-S.

QUOTE(General_Nic @ Apr 9 2010, 08:04 PM)
swt, Canon has AF motor on ALL their LENSES la  sweat.gif
they uses a standard system, focusing mechanism on lenses
so ALL Canon bodies dun have AF motor in body, even the high end 1D/1Ds
*
Yaya, that's what I mean. Coz I heard from my cousin as well, he said his Canon 1000D body got no AF motor. hmm.gif

golbeza: 1st, you still love your kitty lens? If yes, then add 1 more lens, which is 55-200mm, about RM900.
If you don't love your kitty anymore, then go for 18-105mm, about RM1.2k. icon_rolleyes.gif

general_nic: if i'm not mistaken, u have a battery grip with d5000 right? how does it feel with ur d5000 with bg and without? big differance?
*
*Let me reply for him, as a real life buddy who always plays his D5000 with BG on, these will be my opinions* cool2.gif
One of the majors different is the gripping itself. To most of us (not everyone) without a BG, our pinky finger will be standing outside while holding the body, don't you feel very uncomfortable? To me, yes, very uncomfortable, especially holding it for a long time.
Next, I think I don't have to ask, but, do you wanna tilt your hand to capture vertical pictures for a long time? It's kinda pain, sometimes.
Lastly, imagine SB-900 is attached. tongue.gif
Conclusion, get a BG, it rocks! Seriously. wub.gif

Well, I'm expecting Nic to reply as well whistling.gif

lens, not lense  smile.gif
i feel that when using 50mm the shutter sounds faster
when using 55-200 it sounds heavier than when using 18-55
maybe different lens build resonate the shutter sound frm body differently?  laugh.gif
*
Erm, I think when I put 50mm f/1.8D on, the sound is louder . Rasa-rasa got louder. hmm.gif
Don't tell me smaller diameter lenses reflect the sound louder? XD

Assuming both shutter and aperture are the same. Just rasa only. rolleyes.gif

well, me n most of us started of with entry level bodies n r used to single command dial d  biggrin.gif
been playing with single command dial since 2006 on fren's D40x  icon_rolleyes.gif
when i use my fren's D70(ezrasang), i totally not used to the front command dial, keep forgetting abt it  sweat.gif
when he 1st time try out D90 at Nikon Centre he complaint tot the front command dial very inconvenient  (sory, buddy  tongue.gif )

hey buddy, now, I'm loving it~ brows.gif

If coming to Melaka then I will most probably able to join  drool.gif

General_Nic, interesting enough to know there's people who thinks front command dial is inconvenient  shocking.gif
*

You know why I said that? Because index finger will not be on shutter button. Just like Canon lol
But then, Nikon is smarter. Now, I use middle finger for the front commnad dial and remain index finger on shutter. XD
If Canon, takkan index finger on front command dial while middle finger on shutter? sweat.gif (not insulting, jusy my POV)

QUOTE(noobie1 @ Apr 16 2010, 09:57 AM)
tell ur mum that u going to friend house...tongue.gif
normally if go to melaka, shud be able to back on that day...so no worries...
lolx...i started with D90...and when i use my friend D3k,i feel the lack of the front command dial...not used to it..
dual command dial make me can change the setting more faster...
*

Yaya, Nic, say u go to my kampung (without me) XD

Definitely not an issue. laugh.gif
Just that I prefer not to leave my index finger from the shutter. Well, forgot to mention, I will only do this when I wanna enjoy capturing pictures, I mean like take my own sweet time.
If wanna fast, my index finger will do all the work icon_rolleyes.gif

^Is a 1855 a bad lens? No right. Unless those people demanding for a better aperture or longer range lens. And of course, budget budget.
