I recognise Scholes and Giggs are old but I do not believe a need to bring in someone just because others are a)injured or b) going through a bad patch. This coming at a time when we have players like Gibson coming into the fray and Anderson being alive.
What do we do with Anderson when we sign your dream player? Sit on the bench? I'm sure he'll consistently warm his butt on the bench then.
Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson, Gibson, Hargreaves, Scholes, Giggs
That's FOUR first teamers + one returning player from injury + 2 veterans. That equals to having seven central midfielders. Add your dream player, we'll have eight central midfielders.
Eight midfielders fighting for two to three spots in midfield and one(two) spots on the bench. Add to that we have youngsters coming back from loan next season, youngsters emerging from the Reserves and we have more than eight.
Anderson as you said is inconsistent. How did Nani get consistent? How will Nani get consistent? How did they improve and develop and how will they improve? How did Ronaldo improve?
And as for your argument that we lack a midfielder to tear defenses up like Fabregas, Fabregas is one in a billion talent. He's like what Schmeichel said, the kind of player whose worst game is as good or better than most players' best games. Xavi, Xabi, Iniesta all have had dips in forms in their careers. The same is happening to two of our central midfielders. So we buy a midfielder then? What a show of faith. Isn't it what one **** accused us of?
We may sign a couple of players during the off-season but I honestly don't see a midfielder coming in unless someone goes out? And I do not see that happening to.

I was just naming central midfielders. I did not know we were to name wingers as well. But in any case, Fletcher has an eye for a pass and you've made your mind up with Carrick and I disagree with that. I'm not a fan of his form but I do think he's quality. Bad run of form though. Fletcher and Carrick have defense splitting passes in them while Anderson hasn't been able to show what he is about with injuries.
I rate Hargreaves a lot and a cliche, if he can come back next season, he'll be a new signing. =) We aren't Fergie, we have no idea what the situation is. We'll have to see.

Is it safe to say that Berba is a FLOP now?

I don't think that I can defend him anymore. He is no match winner. Good points on aboo, kobe, air_mood, rayz and makakeke.
I am with kobe on this one. Berba has proven that you can't be too sure that BIG name signings would just accommodate our weak spots. So, I am not sure whether Gourcuff or whomever can straight away and perform. We have A LOT of CMs. Among those, I could only think of Anderson and Carrick whom have the capabilities to replace Scholes. Not entirely, that is for sure but they are quality to me.
Carrick is having a dip of form. I saw none was complaining early in the season. He had to play CB along with Fletcher, if anyone does remember. Before that, his form was beautiful. Thanks to those injuries that we had. We had to sacrifice our most in form midfielders (him and Fletcher) to play that CB roles.
Well there's a lot in my mind, TBH. I saw a lot of positives of this season. One of them, THOSE LALANGS WILL MOVE ON TO OTHER WINNING TEAMS.
