I'm moving into a new place with my housemates by the end of the month so we were spending some time to do up the place. And being the gatal fella I am I decided to paint a mural on my new room's wall. Thought I'd may as well document the process and see if anyone else is interested in doing the same thing to their walls as well and posting the results for all to appreciate ^^ So without further ado I present to you:-

[ PART I ] - Day 1
----------------------

Firstly, prepare a suitable picture for transfer to the wall. In my case I'm painting Kakashi from the Naruto anime. Original picture is as follows...

I desaturated it in Photoshop, raised the contrast to remove light greys and then Posterized to two colors. (Cos I'm only using one color for the wall...) This is what the prepared drawing looks like...

Printed out on A4 paper with a grid to ease transfer onto the wall...

After drawing a grid on my wall with 8" squares, I proceeded to transfer the drawing with a relatively hard pencil so the lead wouldn't mix with the paint later and darken the color. I used a 3H and an eraser for this step...

Also when drawing, make sure your underwear is peeking out to balance your drawing arm.... (i'm just kidding here... tongue.gif )

Tadaa... completed pencil outline of Kakashi on the wall...

Stay tuned for Part II tomorrow! I'll start painting it tonight after work and hopefully have the pictures up by tomorrow afternoon. Feedback would be appreciated.

Ok here we go... just got back from the new place and now its time for...

Part II - Day 2

Now it's time to PAINT! Woot, so grab yer brushes, gloves, paint and cigarette...

user posted image

Remove shirt, and start painting. I started with a med sized brush to fill in the thicker areas. [ Note my underwear is still sticking out so my body is balanced and my arm steady..... yes, i'm still kidding about this bit. tongue.gif ]

user posted image

Here's where I switched to a smaller brush to go over the detailed areas. The larger areas were filled in with a large brush [ Duh... ]

After an hour's worth of painting and getting high on paint fumes, this is the end result. woot.

user posted image

All I have left to do is fill in the details with a much smaller brush (the kind you use for painting on paper) Which i stupidly forgot to bring along. So that will be another day left to touch up this mural. Beh. silly me. laugh.gif

Hope this little step by step thingy kickstarts the other forummers to decorate their houses / offices. Post em up! Lets all make Malaysia a little bit more "arty" thumbup.gif

Didn't want to enlarge due to two reasons. It would be really difficult to draw and paint and also my bed will be against the other corner, so I didn't want to cover him / have him stare at me while i sleep tongue.gif

And yeah, still wondering about his hair... was thinking of either drawing the rest of it or maybe swooshing the brush at the end of the line to simulate an unfinished effect. (Don't know if that made sense laugh.gif )
