I got myself a unit of LA46C530 last week. Tried to play the only 1080P movie I have(Transformers.II.2009.BluRay.1080p.DTS.x264.dxva-EuReKA) via USB, it keep stucked after playing 30-40 seconds, even after I tried splitting it into multiple parts and plays the later part. I am worried if C530 is not powerful enuf to play 1080P(bitrate too high?? The video is around 22GB). The audio/video is OK so it shouldn't be codec support problem.

Meanwhile I'm still trying to download another 1080P(Avatar), it gonna take a few weeks over my 384kbps streamyx, sigh.

i think maybe your avatar movie ripping problem, coz when im play using my C530, 100% perfect nothing hang

I tried to play the movie after I downloaded it without any modification/reencoding. Anyway, I suspect the media player has problem with NTFS cluster size or fragmentation.

Hooray, my problem is solved! After reading some pro's opinions on wdtv forum, I used acronis to change the NTFS cluster size to 64K(from 4K) and
mydefrag to defragment my portable hdd. The viewing experience is superb!

Agree..I remember how I was conned into signing up their membership when buying a washing machine, they told me no stock already AFTER the membership card is processed(and I have to pay RM12 for it). From that day onwards, I never step into seng heng anymore.

I am the guy who had some problems with C530 playing some higher bitrate MKV videos. It is not really the TV problem, I solved it by defragging my portable hdd and increase its NTFS cluster size to 64k.

uhhh i think its NTSF. Shud i reformat the whole drive?
I need to remove all items inside first then reformat?
yeah i believe so. it is FAT32. i do not know how to format it to NTSF without the need to re-copy items
*
Go to partitionwizard.com and get the home edition, it is freeware. Windows has built-in 'convert' command to do that without data loss too, but I don't recommend that coz you can't specify the NTFS cluster size as 64k(which is best for huge MKV files).

Just FYI, c530 has problem(the TV reboots itself) playing mkv with TrueHD audio track inside(which is found in quite many mkv i got so far), even if the default audio track is something else(DTS/AC3). I have to use mkvmerge to remove the TrueHD audio track to make it play the video properly.

samsung media player not support trueHD dude, dont expect this player support everything
*
I don't mean supporting the playback/decoding of trueHD track, the player should at least able to ignore it and just use the default/other audio track like how other external media player does it(some do it via passthrough).

I got my C530 the other day and I sometimes have problems with mkv files that give a 'Video codec not supported' error. However, when looking at the information in MediaInfo, the file has the same codec as other files which work fine. It sometimes happens with 720p and sometimes with 1080p files. Those files also work fine in VLC, but I want to play them using the built in media player.

As an example, in the attached image, the file on the left works fine but the file on the right gives a codec error (I understand there are differences because one is 720p and the other is 1080p, but still the settings for the 1080p should be compatible?).

[attachmentid=1614745]

Is there some software that I can use to make sure that all files are compatible for the media player (checks bitrate/resolution/codec etc etc) and can convert the file to the correct settings so I know they will always work fine?

Thanks!

Go google for the software called "idc multi changer", then change the video profile to 4.1 from 5.1. There won't be any loss of quality during playback(no conversion/reencoding involved), it just simply change the profile flag to cheat the media player(built in the samsung lcd) that it can play the video.

For the AAC-related problems, use heartware's popcorn audioconverter to convert the AAC tracks to AC3. You can refer to the tutorial here, http://audioconverter.heartware.dk/Tutorial/

pardon me to interrupt. really need an advise please. got confuse n in dillema. recently i did survey LCD/Plasma pricing.
got confuse to choose either plasma or lcd. rclxub.gif
if plasma i do prefer  samsung 42"c450. for lcd I lean more toward 40c530 but yesterday I asked the wrong model from one shop.
they quoted me around rm25++  for 40c550 including bracket n installation.
what's the different between 40c550 and 40c530.
which one is a good buying?  plasma or lcd? these 3 models, 42c450/40c530/40c550? .. my budget is around rm2800.
i do enjoy alot of dwlded hd movies and astro and already have xteamer m/player and 5.1 ht setup for audio.

If you can get a 40C550 for <RM3K, just buy it ASAP! The major advantage of C550 over C530 is the support of DLNA. With merely a wi-fi dongle, you can get wireless HD streaming without much efforts.

Would u mind explaining the setup? Thanks.

If you have a C550 (NOT C530) which supports DLNA, you actually have 3 options to get wireless streaming working.

1. Buy the original LinkStick wi-fi dongle from Samsung (very very expensive, but confirm works)
2. Connect the LAN cable from TV to a wireless router as the wireless bridge between your PC and the TV (as what wuming_shi is doing)
3. Search for wi-fi dongle using Rosewill RNX-N1MAC chipset on ebay, samsung linkstick is using the same chipset (cheapest solution, but you need luck getting the one with exact same chipset)

Problem to play MKV with this video codec.

Video
Format                          : AVC
Format/Info                      : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile                  : High@L5.1
Format settings, CABAC          : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames        : 16 frames
Codec ID                        : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC
Duration                        : 1h 29mn
Nominal bit rate                : 11.4 Mbps
Width                            : 1920 pixels
Height                          : 800 pixels
Display aspect ratio            : 2.400
Frame rate                      : 23.976 fps
Colorimetry                      : 4:2:0
Scan type                        : Progressive
Bits/(Pixel*Frame)              : 0.310
Language                        : English

Could it be the same codec issues as mentioned previously in this thread? AVC with High@L5.1? Anyone has solution for this?

TQ  smile.gif

Format your portable HD to use 64K as the NTFS cluster size, then use mydefrag(choose the monthly script) to defrag it.

my Hitachi HDD already format to NTFS...so can i use the "defragmentation" button (right click my HDD which pop up the feature) to defrag the file from the HDD, as per your recommendation?

[attachmentid=1696058]
*
1. The NTFS cluster(or allocation unit size) is only 4K by default, reformat the partition to use 64K cluster size.
2. The windows built-in defragment tool is not as good as those 3rd-party one. I recommend www.MyDefrag.com as it is free and its monthly script really defrag to the max(but will take many hours if you run it for the first time)
