I'd say a bare minimum of 6 inches left/right and bottom. That also is barely enough to cover... still will be able to see through if u look thru the window at an angle. (depending on what kind of curtain rails u use.)

Go for 1 foot left/right if your wall space permits. That's for curtain rail length.

Curtain cloth length, go according to how much pleating you want, whether you want flat effect or very wavy effect.

If you wanna DIY install, first make sure you have a good drill.
a. Must have hammer function
b. Must have variable speed
c. Make sure you have the correct concrete drill bit

1. mark your holes on the wall.
2. tap the marks with a nail to create a small hole. this is so the drill point does not run and you get accurate holes in the wall
3. choose the correct size wall plugs. they should be tight when you hammer them into the wall.
4. don't overtighten the screws when you install the curtain rail.
5. use a spirit level. this is important to ensure your curtain rail is straight and will save you lots of headache.
