I think it should be part of sports package.
I wonder if the world cup is available in SD also.

It should be available in SD as well. If not, those without Byond will make noise and make complain again.

FIFA offer two type package. one for Free TV, one for Pay TV. The Free TV price is more expensive since its normally have much broader viewers compare to Pay TV.

In other words, Astro pay much cheaper compare to RTM, to get to show the game LIVE. However, for the HD broadcast, probably Astropaid quite high sum of money to FIFA.

For Singapore, none of the broadcaster over there willing to pay the asking price of FIFA. Thats why there wouldn't have any World Cup matches shown on their channels.

However most of Singaporean can recieve RTM and Indonesian TV signal, so they probably watch the games through RTM or indonesian TV.

But as happened and reported for World Cup2006 and Euro 2008, Singapore couldnt watch RTM when matches were on
The signal was scrambled and they lose the feed while the match was on
It has to do with FIFA rights..
But Singapore will get to watch the World Cup
Their Pay TV operator is in negotiations with FIFA

RTM will show only 21 matches LIVE
15 will be on delayed
Astro show all 64 matches LIVE in both HD and SD
The World Cup is available on the sports package
Highlights on day to day programmes will be on Astro Arena
Last World Cup they had it on RIA
Now with it's moved to ARENA

It seems that still not everyone having the Astro Byond yet.

When I walked around my house area, I noticed that still a lot of people using the OLD Astro dish, not the NEW bigger Black Astro dish for Byond. Either they still not yet getting the Byond or their lazy Installer never change their dish at all.

When I walked along the same road of my house, it is only my house got the new Astro Byond dish. Looks like I am the only Byonder at my TAMAN here.

So, Astro still have a long way to go to get more Byond subscribers.

Astro should add more HD channel to attract more customer upgrade to byond. RM20 for 5 HD channel or maybe less is not worth for them.
