QUOTE(JOR23N @ May 18 2010, 05:30 PM) He thought Singapore doesn't have WORLD CUP in HD and Malaysia got WTF, i dont mean thatSomething that he can be proud of. singapore work hard to get it b4 Singapore’s World Cup Dilemma Singaporeans face the uneasy prospect of potentially being unable to watch this year’s football World Cup on television, as broadcasting negotiations with FIFA have hit a stalemate. John Davidson argues why that result would be a massive own goal for both Singaporean football and FIFA. As unlikely as it sounds, there’s a good chance that Singaporeans might miss out on all the action in South Africa in June this year. Yes Singapore, a country that is football mad, despite never making it to a World Cup, like every nation across the globe it remains fascinated with the world’s biggest sporting event. For you see at the moment, Singapore telcos SingTel and StarHub have reached a snag in their discussions with FIFA. Intelligently, considering the local furor that erupted when SingTel outbid StarHub for the rights to the English Premier League (EPL), the two telcos decided to launch a joint bid for the 2010 World Cup. But those negotiations have cooled as the three parties have yet to agree on price, which has risen substantially since the 2006 World Cup in Germany. However clouding this scenario is a few important points. The World Cup is by far the largest and most popular sports competition, by far bigger than the Summer Olympics. The World Cup is the centerpiece of football, the world game, and takes precedence over national leagues and cup competitions. For this simple fact alone, the World Cup should be shown on free-to-air television in Singapore. Forget the Olympics, the S-League and the recent South East Asian Games, which were all broadcast by MediaCorp, the World Cup is the real deal. A feast of sporting excellence. At the very least the final, semi-finals, quarter-finals and some pool matches should be shown on free-to-air TV, with the rest going to pay TV. This would ensure a wide audience and the fairest arrangement for both the broadcasters and the public. StarHub and SingTel have stated publicly that their offer to FIFA “would sacrifice all World Cup margins for both SingTel and StarHub while keeping the price affordable for consumers”. Recently the CEO of StarHub claimed the company had not made a profit out of holding the broadcast rights to the EPL for several years. This statement raised several eyebrows – how could a broadcaster not make a profit, considering it was both selling packages to consumers to watch the hugely popular competition, and it was selling advertising around it? Like the EPL, the rights to the World Cup are now much more costly. Both the English Football Association and FIFA are out to make as money for its content as possible, which is their right. But there is a tipping point. FIFA and the Singaporean FA can hardly not have the World Cup show in Singapore. Forget the EPL, the World Cup is where football’s greatest players display their talents. It’s only held every four years, and in it the best players do battle for the most coveted prize. It also has the effect of growing the sport, especially in countries that don’t have teams competing (like Singapore), as it remains a massive advertisement for the purity, the enjoyment and the greatness of football as a sport. The World Cup directly leads to greater interest in football and more people taking up the sport. It is in the interest of both FIFA and the local football association for the 2010 World Cup to be shown on TV in Singapore. If it isn’t, it could set back the country’s football development for years. Young players may be denied the chance to be inspired by the world’s greats, which could end up restricting their own development. The lack of the World Cup on TV in Singapore will also no doubt concern some sponsors (despite the country’s small size), who are pouring million and millions of dollars into FIFA for the right to be associated with the competition. If necessary the Singaporean government needs to step in to ensure the World Cup is broadcast in Singapore in one form or another. FIFA may need to start thinking about capping its World Cup asking price, unless it wants to kill its golden goose. The World Cup has always been a tournament for the all of the people in the world, not restricted by their location or their wealth. And if this changes the World Cup will certainly lose some of its power and global appeal. |

QUOTE(victorwan @ May 26 2010, 01:26 PM) The USB port on the decoder is for you to plug in a fan to cool down the decoder box which is hot all the time. You can plug it in at the USB port at the back of the decoder. i will using this word 'ASStro' if they can't provided that 10 hd channelFor the front USB port, u can plug in another FAN to cool you down because everyone is very angry now of Asstro may not allow current byonder box to record but introduce another new box........opss.........I maybe wrong, no official announcement yet. If Asstro introduce another new box for recording, then here can start another complain thread to argue about this matter just like last time the pillar box - stretch screen problem................... Then, this will lead to v5.0 soon. |
