in singapore's case, yes you need to "buy" to watch 2010 world cup, just like astro's video-on-demand
in malaysia, you have to subscribe to astro sport package in order to view world cup matches, unless you are watching world cup through terrestrial TV |

maybe they(the broadcaster) pay extra money for the rights kot... so they want to cover back the money they spend...

How large is the market for pay TV in Singapore actually, in terms of subscriber base?

Just got back from my trip back to the UK. It's so nice to watch SD tv which is actually in WIDESCREEN.
Personally, I'd prefer that astro swapped most of their SD channels to widescreen before adding many more HD channels. When I tell people that out in Malaysia we have HD channels, but all the SD channels are in 4 by 3 mode they are in shock. It's just so annoying to look at fat people or have black bars on either side of the screen when its so obvious some of the channels are already broadcast in widescreen e.g. BBC World News. Sometimes the edges of titles are missing! There's lots of HD channels that they could add though, CI HD Bio HD Discovery HD Discovery Science HD On Sky in the UK (the equivelant of Astro) there are over 35 HD channels (and there isn't as much american and malay crap on TV like there is here |

QUOTE(kayly @ May 18 2010, 06:18 PM) i watched the beyond from my condo but have been through a lot of obstacle from my management to get their written approval...but i think it's worth it once you watch it after installation... u mean u install a single user satelite pan at ur condo unit instead of using the centralise one? |

if the monitor has hdmi or dvi input + HDCP, then you can watch the astro's HD channels
you also need to add amplifier + speaker for sound This post has been edited by neb: May 18 2010, 11:14 PM |

QUOTE(THEALB10N @ May 18 2010, 10:27 PM) Just got back from my trip back to the UK. It's so nice to watch SD tv which is actually in WIDESCREEN. Widescreen SD broadcast is Europe's solution to HD migrating. Malaysia via RTM didn't accept that route and looks like we will go straight to HD instead. Could Astro have pioneered widescreen SD? Yes, they could've but then they would probably angered a lot of subscriber base 10 years ago because the picture look "small". They could switch to it now but they'd have to demand it from their channel distributors.Personally, I'd prefer that astro swapped most of their SD channels to widescreen before adding many more HD channels. Sometimes the edges of titles are missing! I was thinking today that in 3-5 years, to get HD we have to pay RM20 on top of the packages we have to watch the HD channels. In 5-10 years, the RM20 will be omitted and the SD channels, who knows how many there will be then, will be free. fuad |

Just bought Buffalo 320GB external HDD yesterday.
Hopefully I can use it when Byond PVR function already activate.. It should be activate by software update somewhere in this month, isn't it? BTW, got this on another forum : "First Local Content for Live transmission - AF8 final concert 22 Mei 2010 .... End to end on HD without convertion" It's pure HD. Not upscale... It should be activate by software update somewhere in this month, isn't it? but Byond wont utilise tat so its better to use a big capacity usb drive which iread/write faster than a portable HDD |

QUOTE(AjkR06 @ May 19 2010, 08:57 AM) errrr... I don't sure la about that. Turbo? what's that??... Buffalo external HDD hav 2 types,so, I can't use my external HDD with Byond... like that? its stated on the box, either it hav Turbo speed data transfer or otherwise i bot the turbo one but the turbo mode cannot run on HD Media player, meaning Byond also wont be able to run tat, IMHO |
