Although most probably kobe8byrant has completed the assignment without much guidance previously from this thread, but just thought I'd give it a try because I felt there was a conspicuous need for a guidance in social psychology composed specifically for kobe8byrant's future needs and general educational purpose.

Very seldom in social psychology does a theory explain a human behavior as a whole. More frequently, multiple theories contribute different theoretical perspectives that focus on various aspects of the same observation process. Thus, theories of motivation/attraction are no exception. And interestingly, at the broadest level, theories of motivation can be categorized into [1] those that view human nature as a striving to maintain cognitive consistency (look-up: Fritz Heider- Balance theory & Jean Piaget- Cognitive Dissonance theory), and [2] those that view human nature as the instinctive pursuit of pleasure and the avoidance of pain (look-up: Sigmund Freud- Pleasure principle & NLP Motivation Direction- Moving Towards/Away From).
